I am employed 100%, as an Engineer (not IT), living alone in a 2 rooms apartment in 8037, with a car and a garage (200 CHF) and I can save CHF 1'500, and still having around CHF 700 to do whatever I want with them. I find it more than enough, and I am 25 years old.

@@sujayroy1882 In switzerland your workload on the contract can be between 10 and 100% oficially. So you can work 80% meaning 4 days a week let s say and get paid for those.

Looks pretty accurate. If you decide to save for some retirement plan (3rd pillar), this can be another 300-600 CHF/month. Also, taxes are canton-dependent, so your net salary will change depending on the canton you live in, with Zuirch having some of the smallest taxes.

hmm numbers came out better than I thought. 100k chf yearly, will probably save you enough for a buying a flat then, but likely impossible for a detached home anywhere in near the city centre, unless youre taking in upwards 250k /year. Thx so much for the detailed break down, you guys are awesome. Congratulations on your success with achieving 10k subs.

Be aware, real estate is not cheap. A flat will cost you around 17 to 20k per m2. Do be ready to pay a million for a small one-bedroom. 250k/year will never afford you a detached home near the city center (unless saving for decades), that is more in the 600k-700k/year range, which is very very hard to do even in Zurich.

My current situation in Sydney, Australia (here salaries aren't that high, nowhere near Swiss levels, but everything is nearly as expensive, we have 5-6% inflation rate and went up as high as 7-8%).
    Salary - $90k (50k CHF)
    Taxes - $22k
    Monthly salary - $5.6k
    Rent - $2000
    Health insurance - $0
    Food - $900
    Internet/mobile - $100
    Energy/utilities - $150
    Car Expenses - $150
    Car Insurance - $150
    Entertainment - $300
    Total Expenses: $3750
    Left Over: $1850
(I wish i didn't need the car, maintenance costs at least $500 per year, which I didn't include.). I spend little on clothes, may be $200-$300 per year. I didn't include vacation, but my current job gives me 5 week of leave, so around $3-$4k every 2-3 years, but that's Asian travel, Europe would be more expensive.
I aim to save $2000 per month, or $500 per week. Entertainment sometimes is less, but other costs are constant. I'm single, it's a lot harder to survive on $90k if you have a child. Pretty much families need $200k to survive if they have two children. Saving is a mindset, cost cutting exercise, having said that, if someone pays no rent (living with parents) they can survive easily on $50k per year.

I speak german and won't move there just because of the salary. For them you will always be a foreigner and person of second class.
On the other hand, if you don't mind to stay and work in Spanish community (60% of Spanish immigrants in CH are from Galicia), you'll even fine with gallego. I imagine same applies for Italian community.

Idk man… If someone gets 2500-3000 then they likely have to live like students (in shared flats, renting rooms)…
You need to pay rent, random bills like SRF, insurance… On low income there really won’t be much left to eat or go to doctor if needed.
Actually there are statistics where significant part of swiss citizens have to avoid doctors appointments simply because they can’t afford it…

Good video, but small correction: Health insurance: 350 is sadly a thing of the past. The politicians in Bern with their endless lobbying by hospitals and big pharma have made that impossible unfortunately. 450-500 a month is now the minimum. Energy costs are also much higher than 100 these days sadly.

Damn Im so disappointed. My goal is to save at least 100k€ per year, but not even Swiss salaries would let me do that... unless I'd apply for a high level master and start working in investment banking (but its a tough road).
Im a 24 years old SAP Analyst (only 6 months of experience) and a bachelor degree at economics of banks at University of Milan, I can speak fluent English (and of course C2 Italian), a little bit of Spanish and Im gonna start learning German soon.
But I cant see any chance of saving that amount atm, in my situation. I should study and invest a lot more to get there and thats quite frustrating. Any help/advice from anyone in a higher situation?

Save everything you can for the first 5 years while maxing out your salary. Don't buy fancy car, phones, pc, too much rent. Build up a rainy day fund of 3 monthly salaries and put it into fixed Tagesgeld. Learn as many skills as you can until you're 30. Try to do something good to someone else atleast once per month without expecting anything in return. Workout cardio and strength to build up a strong body. Don't date girls with different views on finances than you and especially don't marry such girls. Work extra on weekends but outside of your job. The only currency you have is time and health therefore you can mostly build up with sweat equity. Don't lose money on speculation or gurus, You're easy game in mid twenties for lots of scammers

@@prostmahlzeit thats what Im gonna do unless I'll find a better and faster way to earn more than that.
Im not gonna start my own company now or in the next year, but maybe living in Switzerland in a high level company will open new doors with the network.
My goal will be financially to be ready to those doors.
Meanwhile I will focus on getting more experience and learning German.
USA also offers quite good job positions after expensive Mba at Columbia/Harvard or similar universities, that would be a full challenge since I should leave Europe.

you forgot to mention that you have to pay for the doctors visit up to a certain value. you should take the maximum of this value and split it over the 12 months and add this as additional expense. I also heard the tax and insurance for cars is much more expensive than in germany.

I pay exactly 350 CHF for health insurance, and since it'smy forth month in Zurich I wanted to see how much I spend on food and i spent 270chf in september. It's definitely not only pasta, actually I dont eat pasta almost ever, and I treat myself to whatever I want. Maybe the costs for others are higher because people order in, or dine out. I love to cook and almost always prepare my own food. I am a Vegetarian btw, so fruits and vegetables are not exactly cheap, so again I am totally fine with 250chf a month for just me.

It would be nice for you to do a 'live stream' video as part of your meet up, so that those of us in far away lands can participate. You could do a Q&A during the live stream and answer people's questions in the comments section. To answer your question on a pleasure cost, I enjoy a subscription to a wine club located in Napa California. For you two, if you enjoy wine, I highly recommend that you do a wine tasting at Schipf Vineyard in Zürich! Their wine tastes amazing!!! The cost for a bottle of wine does not cost very much and you may be able to enjoy a nice tour of the vineyard overlooking Lake Zürich!
