What’s your favorite Queen song?
The Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke or White Queen (As It Began)
It's between Bohemian rhapsody and Who wants to live forever
Love of my life and Save me
impossible to answer... 🙂
I have lots of faves but I love Marc's originals more (solo and Downhere)!
Wow!! Awesome!! Your show was very entertaining!! Thank you!! ❤
wow amazing performance by Marc!!
To just sit down and belt out a Queen track, so perfectly , Marc is an exceptional talent….long may he be the Freddie, many never got to witness in person…..👍👌🇮🇲
Marc even looks like Freddie Mercury when he sings Queen songs, minus Freddie’s teeth. Marc is incredibly talented! I also love that he's down to earth.
Absolutely agree on his looks!
Thanks for inviting Marc! And great to see Crystal too! 💞 I hope to see Marc in a concert very soon. He is an amazing singer. I like Marc for being Marc. Though he sounds like Freddie he is still Marc and that's great. PS: Yeah, the Outlander binge! I'm a huge fan of Outlander too! 🙂
What a fun interview! Thanks for inviting them on the show. Lovely to hear Marc sing. Can't imagine what a powerful voice to hear that close. A refreshing interview, great questions and answers.
Marc! 👍❤❤❤
I was on vacation in France when the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” came out and so I saw the film there. When I got back to my hotel room the first thing I Googled was “Did Rami Malek do the vocals for Freddie Mercury in the film?” That’s when I came across info about Marc Martel and watched some clips of him on UA-cam. I feel like this guy’s life should be made into a biopic because of how his career trajectory seems like something that could only happen in a movie. I found it especially enjoyable to listen to his wife Crystal’s answers to questions because it is inspiring seeing how this couple has managed to have separate yet complimentary careers and maintain a lasting relationship over the years. I also loved the quote she shared from “Zorba the Greek,” which was much more profound than the comedic one Marc chose from “Billy Madison.” Melissa’s interviewing skills were at their peak during this episode, and I think it’s because she is married to a musician herself and so knew how to ask all of the right questions. Her story about her uncanny connection to “Knight Rider” when Marc mentioned The Hoff was particularly entertaining. Amanda brought good energy to this episode as well, and cracked me up when she reprimanded everyone for not knowing what “The Bear” was with a loud “Y’all!!!” Finally, what a privilege to get to see Marc perform Queen’s only Christmas song at the end of the show!
Thank you for interviewing both Martels. It's always wonderful to see a couple supporting each other career. Very inspiring!
Marc Martels ❤ Freddie Mercury reborn ❤😮!!
What a great chat with Crystal and Marc. So glad Marc sang a Christmas song.
He looks like him!
1:06:24 Awwww, Crystal! So moving!
I love that she asked Marc to sing. Lol! I often feel dumb that I ask my musician hubby to sing and/or play guitar, so now I don't feel so bad. 😂
Crystal was just adorable! And Marc, well, he was Marc. Awesome as usual! ❤️🎄🎼🎹🎸🥁🎤
Met Marc at a fundraiser in Phoenix….couldn’t believe he was there. I’ve been a big fan since Downhere days. I actually told him when I first heard them on the radio, I thought he was Kevin Max. Really gracious and humble. This was a fun interview! Thanks for doing a great job! My wife and I are currently re binging New Girl….hilariously awkward!😂
The first time I saw Marc was Downhere opening for Barlow Girls. A crowd of 4,000-5,000. He signed autographs after, and when it was my turn, I said, "You sound a lot like Kevin Max and Freddie Mercury. He shyly replied, "I get that a lot."
Without even known as someone who sounds like Freddie, Marc Martel is a great artist himself. Crazy talented musician.
Sounding like Freddie is literally the only thing he is know for now but ok
@@Kinseliplier You gotta check out his band Downhere and his solo music! Ironically Marc's musical career fell off my radar when he started playing with the Queen tribute band, but I came back around.
@@ThatllShowEm yeah I know about his band but he's mainly known for his queen stuff and not as much for his old work with Downhere.
@@Kinseliplier an artist's best work is often the least popular. You're missing out if you only consume what is most popular.
@@artfulstories no his Queen stuff is his best. Downheres music is no where near as good.
How many Kings is the best Christmas Gospel song! By Downhere (featuring Marc).
Everything I've listened to that Marc has done absolutely redefined "extraordinary" for me. His talent isn't entirely in the Queen covers, and that's the rub. I'm truly confused how he isn't a household name by now. Makes no sense
Another excellent episode!
This is great, because I've never heard much about Marc except when he's talking on stage. TIL his wife gave him the push he needed to audition for the Queen Extravaganza, and that I should probably leave him alone if I happen to see him in public. Well, maybe pass him a note saying, "Love your music, Marc".
38:45 Ahhh a fellow NPR listener!! (And Crystal also described the format for This American Life.)
Along that vein, Reveal is pretty good.
1:04:34 As in MJ's Billie Jean?? Ever since I heard Marc perform Radio Gaga I've wanted to hear him cover MJ.
He mentions MJ in the video description of his cover of Elton John's Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me. :)
There's a clip circulating around where Marc is riffing a bit from "The Way You Make Me Feel"...
@@ThatllShowEm yeah the triangle,,.doh.......
~Good Morning~ everyone ❤
💖💯💖 Agree, Sabrina, ExAcTly 💖💯💖
At 3:21, Marc voicing Withered Foxy: ua-cam.com/video/YE4agOsJsXo/v-deo.html
Melissa ck. Out Marc 's. Guitar 🎸 player can play Brian May's parts pretty close to Brian's party and check out Marc's video of Under Pressure Tristan the guitar 🎸 player sounds just like David Bowie. Hope you get this comment . For now Peace out and God Bless
Don't mean to freak Amanda out, but I was the at the same restaurant as Amanda (across from the Fisher Center) before the Marc concert. I did not come up to her table, but I sure wanted to! :)
Next time come say Hi!
The beginning audition of "Doing All Right" in front of Roger/Brian, the Happy Birthday acapella in his parents house, the Love of My LIfe piano scene, parts of Bohemian Rhapsody in the middle of the film, the 'Ayyy Oh in his new home, and the pre-rehearsal vocals near the end were all Marc Martel.
Basically any acapella vocals without music were all Marc Martel. Rami Malek obviously can't sing. What you hear in the film is either Marc, or Freddie's archived vocal tracks.
The Bohemian Rhapsody acapella on the barn is freddie Mercury not Martel, but the other ones are Martel but if you are a true Queen fan you can tell the difference. Martel is good but not Freddie Mercury there is only one.
@@aldebarankanon5870 There was an NPR interview with Rami Malek where he claims that scene was him. So it's interesting to dig into how "Hollywood" spins a lot of the "music" and sound mixing for film!
@@ThatllShowEmdo you believe that, well I don’t if you look for bohemian rhapsody takes you’ll find it.
@@aldebarankanon5870 If that scene can have a bit of Rami Malek singing in it, it might have a bit of Marc too. Just saying. 😉
@@aldebarankanon5870
It’s a mix of Freddie and Marc.
How does he also kinda look like him, too, though??
Why do Americans interrupt each other all the time?
One of the things that makes so many of their talk show hosts and tv interviewers in general unbearable.
4:06 - NOPE! They're two different bands. Queen Extravaganza (QuEx) is Queen's OFFICIAL tribute band. Ultimate Queen Celebration (now renamed "One Vision of Queen") is Marc's own band, which was started in 2017, when QuEx was originally not going to tour that year.
4:16 - Nope again! QuEx is still touring, with a different lead singer. Marc's band is his own and is not affiliated with Queen in any way.
1:02:47 - OMG, Marc! REALLY??? A Holocaust joke??? Here's the joke, btw. (NOT politically correct!)
My father is German. He never talks about his family history, but the other day he finally opened up to me a bit. He told me his grandfather died during the holocaust. I replied, "That's terrible!" He nodded in agreement and added, "He got really drunk and fell out of the guard tower."
She goes on to say that the tribute band thing evolved over time.
O’D! Seriously?
If I got an email with just “A Must” as the subject and a link, I’d automatically assume it was spam and delete it .
The email was from his friend.
Not exactly but close.
They say the camera adds 10 pounds. Looks like MJH ate about 5 of them.
Who wants to hearsomeone try to be Freddy! BLA H BLAH!!
Try? No, thanks. A natural sound-a-like is so much more interesting!
No he does not. Nice guy but nope he is not Freddie.
Clearly, Sherlock!
@@papabearM3 you must be his daddy 😂 he sells himself "sounding" like Freddie. Falls way short.
@@ND.90
Were I your daddy I would have protected your head from hitting that pavement! Oh, well!
I was in the movie too and I have the emails from Fox to prove it. I was one of the winners of the put me in Bohemian contest and my voice was used in the mix for the people in the crowd that song along side Freddie when he sings bohemian rhapsody at the end of the movie in the Wembley concert. I also did a decent Freddie Mercury impression on the recording I sent to Fox for that contest that was used in the movie even though you can't even hear it cause I was blended together with the other 70,000 people who also won the contest to create the sound of all the people in the audience singing at once.
That’s awesome! You’ll be telling your grandkids about the experience. My late father was an extra soldier in the John Wayne movie The Alamo. I have black and white photos that Hollywood studios took of him in his uniform.
How tf do they not know about Fnaf? Lmao
