Hi Ben, we just went on a trip to Europe and I took a handful of 360 photos with my GoPro Max. I want to be able to show them to my wife's grandma on a cheap pair of VR goggles (the ones that just hold your phone). She has never been there and we thought it would be a cool way for her to see the cities. What app do you recommend for doing something super simple like this? I previously just uploaded them to my Google Drive and used Google Cardboard, but I was wondering if you had a better solution. Thanks.
Wonderful video. I have watched it several times over. In January 2023, I’m struggling to find software and a workflow to merge down text and images into 360 photos (properly within the equirectangular spherical plane). I’m aware I can do this on the Kuula platform, but I don’t think I can export the revised 360 photos with merged down text and images off the platform. Or perhaps I can? I’m struggling to find the detail and the answers.

Your tutorial is perfect for simple tripod removal, just wondered if there's an alternative for anything more advanced - for example if you need to combine elements from multiple 360 photos? I’m overly optimistic their latest release supports exactly what we are looking for … will be exploring this in the upcoming days and will let you know. Great Vid.. I'm trying the workflow, and the Affinity is much quicker than PS for sure! Guess I will have to learn it for just the 360 photos. After I do the brush I can't find how to get the arrow to look around the 360 photo again.. I'm stuck there, but I'm sure I'm just blind.
I bought Affinity Photo so I could draw boundaries on 360 panoramas, but I've noticed that the line will bow somewhat. I use a Phantom 4 pro to shoot my 360s. The top of the panorama stretches together somewhat when the 360 is stitched together. My workflow is color correct raw images, stitch the panorama (using Panorama Studio Pro to stitch them) and then add the boundary lines of the property. My theory is that the stretched part on the ceiling of the panorama is causing the boundary lines to bow. I was thinking about adding in a blue line (matched to the sky) so that the total height of the photo will level out that bowed boundary line. Any thoughts about that?
Hi Ben. Thank you for the update with editing on Photoshop. I will share my workflow of getting rid of tripod in PS. I flip the equirectangular 180 degree horizontal axis and have it distort with “polar coordinate.” After I finish erasing tripod, I will reverse the procedure and export. There is less freedom in setting perspective, but it works quick enough for getting rid of tripod. Stay safe :)

Thanks Ben, I have been using Affinity Photo too and it works properly for 360 images. Another alternative that I found for 360 photo editing is installing the previous version of Photoshop. Adobe allows to install more than one PS version in the same computer, so I kept the current version and installed the previous one: version 21.2.11. In the previous PS version the 3D functions are working properly, what makes me thinking if it is really a software GPU issue, or maybe an Adobe marketing strategy to sell new software packages. Anyway thanks again for sharing new alternatives.

Hey Ben, Problem i have with Affinity Foto, if you color correct or create a HDR from the stichted fotos , then its not seamless anymore on the borders you have then a line, any ideas how to fix that ?
I joined. Your tier with just shooting 360 interiors was all I needed. I live in Pymble and once this bloody lockdown is over (you know, 2029), then I will be doing more 360 (I have the Insta360 One X2). BTW I like this level best as I have no plans to earn a lviing doing this; just fun (I spent 45 years as a software developer, so that's enough work). Looking foreward to running into you filming 360 at the Opera House or Harbour Bridge! ;0)))
Great tutorial. So, I was wondering. Have you tried recently to do this with the new Photoshop 2022, specifically trying to stack DNG night shots taken with the One X2? When I stack the DNG, i get some awful seams throughout the image. Thank you, Rick
That's so sad to hear. I've been using Adobe for so long and lately they're not doing so great.... People are running away from Premiere and now I see a trend of people coming out of Photoshop. We'll see how they react. I gotta try one these you recommended tho.
Im having a really hard time with my project. I can't figure out how to stitch my photos.. already edited the DNGs on Lightroom and exported as DNG. now I just need to stitch them so I can go on METAREAL to build my virtual tour.. what am I doing wrong! :(

Thank you for this quick and great video. Adobe has become a giant mess. For 20+ years, Photoshop was solid. No bugs... but now, it even has crashing bugs. Before PS had 360 editing, I used Mudbox... but Affinity sounds good, I'll try it out. Would love to have another option from PS.
Can you share your export setting from Lr that allow you to go to Affinity? I get my images perfect but once exporting and going to Affinity I'm getting a black line above the tripod feet. I've tried exporting as jpg or png, also r=tried just saving the LR edits to the dng metadata and none will pull through to affinity correctly.
Hi Ben - Not used affinity yet. One thing I use PS for is to add an image (logo) over the stand nadir as a layer and merge down, then export (as per your previous explainer video showing how to do this and add text using PS). I assume affinity can do this?

Same with photoshop- the reason is that they are complex programs and it’s not easy to translate that to a simple mobile phone experience… well not yet anyway 😀

Hi Ben! When I received your newsletter about this issue, I panicked! I'm churning out around 40 tours a month and dont have time to sit too long on a project. So glad you put this video out, will definitely be giving Affinity a go. My current workflow is this. 1 1. Insta360 to Equirectangular 2. Lightroom for chromatic abberation 3. SNS HDR ( fantastic for taking my bracketed 360 images and find the results better than Lightroom once you've got the settings where you want them ) 4. Topaz Sharpen which is ideal for the Insta360 images as the camera produces fairly soft results. 5. Photoshop for and reflection or object issues ( clearly not going to replace with Affinity! ). Hey Ben, quick question, when editing in Lightroom I always ran into a hard line along the equirectangular edge when using the highlight/shadow sliders. Apparently this was because LR estimates what a shadow is by looking at pixels around it. To fix this I've had to make the photos 2x wider. Do you run into this editing 360 photos straight out of camera in LR or have they fixed the issue?
Hi Ben and All people in here, I really need your help as I really new to this 360 scene. I plan buy RICOH THETA S (someone sell it for VERY CHEAP PRICE), and my plan to use it as my new tool to capture Ultrawide shot for my work project, which using that 360 capability (while addition will have a 360 photo of the project location). My problem is I planned to capture a certain angle of it the 360 area, can Affinity Photo do that? like for example I just want to capture a frame scene on 04:40, slighly zoom out, then export it just that frame. I know Theta S is lower resolution and doing that will had lower image resolution, but I can upscale the captured scene using Topaz Gigapixel at the end. So anyone can help me?
i was chatting with adobe product managers and was like, fella, wtf? they’re hoping to re-earn users back with next gen software that will run lightening fast on next gen hardware aka m1, AMD, and NVIDIA gpus.
Adobe's reasoning doesn't make sense. Sure, developers will get better machine-specific performance through a GPU API than Open GL. but why would that make Open GL worse? If it ran fine on older hardware, it ought to run as well or likely better on new hardware.
@@roystevenson9632 takes seconds. Literally. I plonk the camera down in many places and create a ton of images fast. Cycle through them to pull the best group and then quickly correct them. 30 second frame, 30-60 second colour correct. I discover loads and learn stuff every time I shoot like this. Setting up one shot for 5 mins seems a bit mad to me. Unless you being paid of course lol. The happy accidents that come along are great with 360
@@BenClaremont They've sold you a subscription including 3D capability, then take it away and expect you to pay more to regain it within another package?
That’s not what they’re doing though. As I mentioned it was a GPU issue and those other products are not for 360 editing. They are definitely losing $$$ not gaining it with this change.

SNS-HDR is worth considering if you are into bracketing images with your Z but not stacking in camera…lite on instructions too, but powerful…

The Photoshop workflow was so needlessly complicated that I moved to Affinity years ago. If only Lightroom could preview 360 photos... 😭

Lightroom is not stitching software. Use your cameras stitching software

YOu can also do healing and remove the legs and other things in Lightroom it self! why is that not an option?

Even an entire 360 photo editing workflow?
Hi Ben and All people in here, I really need your help as I really new to this 360 scene. I plan buy RICOH THETA S (someone sell it for VERY CHEAP PRICE), and my plan to use it as my new tool to capture Ultrawide shot for my work project, which using that 360 capability (while addition will have a 360 photo of the project location). My problem is I planned to capture a certain angle of it the 360 area, can Affinity Photo do that? like for example I just want to capture a frame scene on 04:40, slighly zoom out, then export it just that frame. I know Theta S is lower resolution and doing that will had lower image resolution, but I can upscale the captured scene using Topaz Gigapixel at the end. So anyone can help me?
i was chatting with adobe product managers and was like, fella, wtf? they’re hoping to re-earn users back with next gen software that will run lightening fast on next gen hardware aka m1, AMD, and NVIDIA gpus.

AFAIK Photoshop never could be used to process raw 360 images. Just the 16Bit JPEGs. So the discontinuation is not really a big deal
Yes it definitely could- I’ve taught and used that workflow for years. Hence why this new workflow is needed 👍
Thanks Ben. For the casual photographer PS is a waste of money. Yeah it's probably the best but I'm on a limited budget.

Adobe's reasoning doesn't make sense. Sure, developers will get better machine-specific performance through a GPU API than Open GL. but why would that make Open GL worse? If it ran fine on older hardware, it ought to run as well or likely better on new hardware.
I have to wonder whats going on at adobe when affinity can edit 360 photos no problem but photoshop can't. WTF Adobe.
Affinity is better...and faster
PS? PC? Clunky packages that cost money? Nah. Been using an app instead for years. Frame and colourgrade in one app

@@roystevenson9632 takes seconds. Literally. I plonk the camera down in many places and create a ton of images fast. Cycle through them to pull the best group and then quickly correct them. 30 second frame, 30-60 second colour correct. I discover loads and learn stuff every time I shoot like this. Setting up one shot for 5 mins seems a bit mad to me. Unless you being paid of course lol. The happy accidents that come along are great with 360

@@redboyjan ah, I have the Insta360 products and can do some stuff on their app but tripod removal/nadir addition isn’t possible.
Such a dodgy cash grab by Adobe.... You can however still install 2 versions of photoshop simultaneously.
What is a dodgy cash grab? They will be losing business now from discontinuing the 3D mode
@@BenClaremont They've sold you a subscription including 3D capability, then take it away and expect you to pay more to regain it within another package?
That’s not what they’re doing though. As I mentioned it was a GPU issue and those other products are not for 360 editing. They are definitely losing $$$ not gaining it with this change.
@@BenClaremont Adobe bought the company Allegorithmic for their 3d software… they did it because they think they’ll make more..
