Instead of this why don't we use ifnull function or zn??
Thats a great question Sandeep.
Ifnull or ZN function will work when there is data but the measure values are null. In this tutorial I am trying to explain when there are no records in the dashboard or user filters out all the data, then how can we show "zero" value instead of blanks. On my Tableau Desktop 2021.3.8, I tried your recommendation by adding Text over the Sheet on Horizontal Layout. After setting the floating order of sales sheet to 'bring to front', the $0 text is no longer visible, even when no records exists for the filter selection. What is the mistake I'm making ? Please advise.
Please check if you have the transparent background selected for the front layer and also check if you have used square shape mark instead of text mark.

How would you do this with a bar chart?
When I bring technology $554 to front the $0 doesn't show or the #'s didn't even overlap. $0 totally disappeared. What wrong I am doing ? I am using 2021.4.2
Hi Sonia, the "$0" value should only be visible when there is no data and till then it should be sitting behind the $554 layer. When you change the filters and there is no data then $0 should only be visible. Hope that helps 🙂

Hi Max, This is a work around solution that works with floating contains only as we have to use layers thats only possible floating containers. Hope that helps.

Thats a great question. It will work if you have data relevant to that KPI. IF there is no data then then you could show zero value this way but filter action wont work work as there no data. Hope that helps

Thats correct. This technique is useful with standard screen size.
