HS2 Stories: Millie

19-year-old Millie from Kingstanding, Birmingham, is our 4,000th unemployed person to secure a job on HS2. Having made the tough decision not to go to university, Millie was out of work for eight months. She heard about the opportunity to work on HS2 after former school colleagues and family members recommendations. Within just three weeks of applying, she was welcomed into the team.
Millie joined HS2’s construction partner for the region, Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV), as facilities assistant but in just six months, she secured a promotion and progressed into a new role as data support analyst.
Mille now works alongside a team of highly skilled engineers to update and maintain 4D models of BBV’s intricate engineering works, ensuring records are maintained and all works are recorded in accordance with safety and environmental standards.

No mate oppotunities if you live in the West Midlands as the HQ of HS2 is in Birmingham City Centre and the pictures at 0.26 are of Curzon Street Station Birmingham, HS2 ltd is a Birmingham Based Company.

The Engineers don't work for HS2. They work for the Contractors who are building HS2. And the Contractors offices are based in different parts of the Country. And being a site based staff member of any Contractor will mean you could get sent anywhere in the Country to work.

Sorry to disapoint you but HS2 has not stopped it is still being built and the pictures at 0.26 show Birmingham Curzon Street Station. It is only from Lichfield to Manchester where it has been cancelled but replaced by a junction where by HS2 joins the West Coast Main Line at Handsacre Staffordshire

Heard the latest news, private investors are now interested in building the Birmingham to Manchester route. Any way her skills will be easily transferable to most big architecture firms, she will be employed for all her life doing this job or moving up.
