Hey Brad! These can be a life saver! I had the copper elbow on my 3/4” Cold water PB line coming out of the water heater, spring a leak through a pin hole and shooting up at a 45 degree angle! So much for everybody talking about PB ( Polybutylene/ QEST ) piping failing; In this case it was the copper fitting!
But, I am on well water, which makes a difference, compared to City water. Nonetheless I ran up to my nearby Lowe’s (10-12 minutes ) and it felt ‘weird’ to cut that line, but I had to do it. Very important point: I failed to notice some dirt/deposit? on one side of the PB, and it had a slight leak once I fitted it, and so making sure to properly prepare the ends before putting on the fitting, is paramount! I used some Gray plumbing tape wrap and it held fine. It has since been replaced with PEX B, and a new water heater.
I would not use this permanently on 1/2” PEX B, as it is already restricted, and the insert makes it more so. Maybe if a SharkBite Max is available? I prefer to use bend supports, and eliminate that fitting and restriction. Hair dryer to heat the tubing and then snap it into the bend support. It IS a HASSLE, but is worth it IMO. Just my ole’ $.02 Crushed that like button! 👍Cheers
