Dance is like connecting with the divine for me," Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji declared in numerous interviews throughout his life. That's why, despite inventing some of Bollywood's most renowned dance sequences, he never wanted to work in the industry. His goal to create a timeless scene drove all of the films in which he was involved.
Over the span of decades, Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji left an everlasting influence on the film industry with some iconic dance performances.
'Jaanisar,' 'Dedh Ishqiya,' 'Devdas,' 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,' 'The Chess Players' and 'Bajirao Mastani' are some of the films in which Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji worked as a choreographer.
Throughout his decades in the entertainment sector, Pandit Birju Maharaj ji has received numerous prizes and accolades. He received a Padma Vibhushan in the year 1986.
Adharshila Shikhar Samman, Kalidas Samman, Rajiv Gandhi Peace Award, Andhra Ratna, Shiromani Samman, Nritya Choodamani, Soviet Land Nehru Award, and Nritya Vilas are some of the other awards that he received over the years.
Maharaj Ji is close to a God for all Kathak aspirants and it gives us immense pleasure that we get this opportunity to pay our tributes to the maestro.
