- Today I'm swapping my old sealed headlight bulbs in my classic 1965 Falcon for a pair of Holley's new RetroBright LED headlights. While Holley has different sizes in both the round and rectangular headlights, as well as 2 different light colors to pick from, I'll be installing the 7" round bulbs in the classic 3000K white.

Ellie, canting the driver side light is normal. Purpose: when you're on a 2 lane rd you won't blind the drivers of oncoming cars.

@@ElliesGarage . BTW, canting is only noticeable when you're at your garage the way you were, but when you're on the road you don't notice it as much (at least with the stock lights). Oncoming drivers will thank you.
I came down to the comments to say this. In her case the driver's side looked at little lower than it should be. I think sadly, this is a losing battle. So many people have misadjusted headlights. My last 2 brand new cars were both pointing higher than what is legal. I don't know if they're just doing that to make the headlights seem brighter, but the number of cars on the road that just blind me at night are increasing a lot.
Also make sure the gas tank is full, and other parts are put back on the car. This makes the car In better balance so it shines right. But, as you heard the on coming drivers side Is normal, maybe a little lower but it normal. Thanks
@@meikgeik Exactly... once upon a time people had manners. Now, people are completely oblivious to other motorists. I cannot get through a single night out on the road without fuqqer(s) hitting me with their brights. From all angles. People used to get pulled over and ticketed. These days, the most obnoxious vehicles out there are the cops' cars themselves. Me me me. That's all people seem to care about these days.

you dont need the extra relay but if you choose to use it it should make your bulbs slightly brighter . it does this because if you check the voltage at the headlight plug while the car is running it will be somewhere between 11 and 13 usually on the lower side depending on the wiring and i know yours is new , because the power has to travel from the battery across the engine bay through the firewall to the fusebox then through the dash to the headlight switch to the floor switch back through the engine bay to the lights on a higher amp circut like that you loose a few volts . when you use the relay you usually have them 2 one for high and one for low close to the battery and headlights usually using a slightly larger wire size . it keeps the voltage at 14 because of the short run with larger size wire = brighter light . your original wiring stays in place and just switches the relays on and off taking a lot of stress off the headlight switch and hi beam switch and the long length of wire because it takes almost nothing in amps to switch relays ,and usually makes your switches last longer . thats why newer cars have so many relays it allows them to use a smaller wire "cheaper" for the miles of wire they use . so while not needed it is a nice upgrade to think about . look up muscle car headlight relays or mods probably find more in depth info on this . and nice work i just found this page and been following for a few days now
Excellent advice, and something that most people wouldn't think of. But for LEDs, which are a current device (LEDs don't really care what the voltage is), and most likely consume less current for the same (or in this case, vastly more) light, it really isn't necessary.
I did something along the same lines with my far-from-classic 2002 Impala when the low beam switch went bad. Being far too lazy to pull the steering wheel off for something as insignificant as not having lights unless I used my high beams exclusively, I wired up a relay that would select low beams as long as the high beams weren't selected.

Those are great. I especially like that they look like old style bulbs, and they are a direct plug in with no wiring modification. They strike me as being expensive, so it’s definitely going to be a future purchase. :)
I like them too but you're right that they're pretty pricey. I'm really fortunate that they were sent to me, and if I had to buy them I'd definitely have to wait and save up. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@ElliesGarage I find all of your videos enjoyable and as my car was restored some years ago many of the new products and facts you present in your videos are very helpful to other Falcon and Comet owners. Most Classic car owners don't appreciate that their headlights are likely very old and even if they are working the filaments are highly oxidized and don't emit the light they should be which is a serious safety issue. Previous halogen bulb upgrades are just plain dangerous in older cars and to know that the LEDs are a plug-in upgrade is extremely helpful! I'm also planning to install the same stereo and speakers you did. Keep up the good work and I hope other companies with new products for classic cars send you more stuff to try!

Just found this video, I have been looking for ages for LED headlights in the old color, like you I want my 78 lincoln Mark V updated but look classy. I have to say these lights are perfect.
Yes! I REALLY wanted them to look classic and these are perfect. I know they gave me these and that Eastwood is a sponsor, but really, these LEDs are really high quality, they installed just that easy, and they work great. I can't wait to be able to drive around with them more--got to get Carl painted and put back together first.
Thanks for posting. These will eventually make their way on to my old car, but I have other issues to deal with first. One thing you may want to do once you get your car all put back together is to get the headlights aligned correctly. Using the garage door isn't bad, but if you go to a good body shop they should be able to help you get them aligned correctly. (it takes a special tool set that attaches to those three nubs on each headlight)

I did that a few years ago. It was easy other than fixing someone else's bad repair before I got my car. They are a good improvement over stock.

You may want to look up how to set your headlights at the right height. They look awful high to me right now. You will be blinding people in low beam. There is a procedure.

Neat upgrade. I had no idea these existed. Yes, they are pricey, but not compared to the cost of hitting a deer or tree branch you didn't see in time due to dim stock lighting. If any Holley execs are reading these comments, one thing I'd like to see would be for the lenses to have a more pronounced convex shape like the original sealed beams.

Lovely LED lights! They look awesome, and you two installed them with such mechanical prowess and skill. It's always a joy to watch you videos. One thing sticks out: in Europe, where most cars travel on the right side of the road, the left headlamp is dipped slightly from the right side. In the UK, where cars travel on the left side of the road, the right headlamp is dipped to prevent glare towards oncoming motorists. Does your state have headlight aiming standards? Perhaps you could check with the DMV or the local garage that adjusts headlights. Your area may have a standard for aiming headlight beam patterns properly; I'm fairly sure they're not supposed to be aimed such that they are level with one another. No matter what, thought...I hope you use your new lights in good health and safety. Cheers!

Are they Made in U.S.A.? At $199 a piece they should be!
When you use those lux meters on your phone you’re supposed to use a diffuser. Put a thin strip of printer paper over the front camera to diffuse to light. And face the FRONT Camera at the light. NOT the back camera. Just some friendly info to share so you get more consistent and meaningful results.

Hey Ellie…, was wondering if these headlights have replaceable bulbs or do you have to replace the whole head light when they burn out? Just wondering for the price if it is worth it? Thanks for your video and your time😎👍
Thanks so much for the question. Yes, the lights do have replaceable bulbs. If one burned out, or you wanted to change from classic white (3000K) to modern white (5700K), then you can just replace the bulb. 42 degrees is cold??? It doesn't really get cold until about 10 degrees. We just had a few days of 10 -20 below here in WI.

Wow I had no idea the engineers (apparently 2 years ago now?) were smart enough to a) Include the adapter relay, b) Provide 3000k warmer ambient color temperature, and c) VERY SMARTLY engage brights and lows same time!!!
These may actually be worth buying when my regular ones go out! ... How are they holding up? Do they get very hot? Seems like it
I've been impressed. They work great and run completely cool (as far as I have felt). They're not cheap but I think you get what you pay for.
@@ElliesGarage Thank you for your reply. I am someone who believes $200 is nothing when it comes to my safety (your new headlights are way safer since you can see far out to the sides).. One of my mottos comes from a line in "Entourage" when the security guy says to Vince, "What's worth more, your cars or your head?" Can never put a price on safety! This was the best review online about the new led headlights!
For $300 bucks a pair they had better be good. I've tried several 5×7 retro fits by gs power and vision x with auxbeam f-16 plus leds. The beam patterns are horrible and unusable but the light is much brighter. Not sure if the problem is the housings or the LED emitters I suspect maybe a bit of both. Hey holly, if you want me to send me a set of five by seven rectangular for my 93 Nissan D21 truck I'll give them a try and make a video. Everything else I've tried so far is rubbish.

Good question. These are brighter than my stock LEDs but they don't seem overly bright or brighter than what would seem "normal".
You are one lucky gal. Them headlights are nice but at over $200 a piece no thanks. I checked on the large rectangular ones for F100 truck and each lamp was over $200, so i wont be buying any Holley lights. I will continue to use sealed beam stock type lamps but 5he ultra bright halogen ones. Will see you in the garage next time. Cheers.

They are better but the price is prohibitive for most people. Holley wants $200 dollars per light bulb. That is $400 dollars per pair.
The beams appear to be a bit to high. Perhaps you should have aimed the other bulb. Also the left head lamp should be aimed In so as not to be in the incoming drivers eyes. This is even more important with the brighter beams.

@@ElliesGarage you might place one of your parents cars in the drive. Do your best to find where the beams land, mark off the spots with tape. Than place Carl in the same spot and correct to match the locations.
