- Back in November when Apple's MagSafe-compatible Leather Wallet first launched, I took a look at the accessory and ended up disliking it because of the weak magnetic connection.
I kept using the Leather Wallet despite its flaws, and after three months with the accessory, my opinion has changed and I wanted to share some new thoughts on it.

Just got my Saddle Brown Magsafe Wallet! First impressions: smells nice, card comes out very easily, it is definitely better than a dedicated wallet but it is not meant to be attached at all times. A little bit difficult to put it back in place since it doesn't just snap into the back of the phone (the magnets don't really align well for this wallet) but a little bit of fidgeting and you'll get it right.
Overall I think it's a good buy, esp for guys who usually don't carry around purses and has to put both the phone and the wallet separately during summer.
All I personally need in a wallet like this is enough room for my license and a credit card. What else do we reasonably need on a day to day basis other than maybe a metro card if you live in a big city?

I got the brown wallet and love it! I’m totally like you, I hate having stuff in my pockets when I’m seated somewhere. I love the MagSafe wallet because, for the most part, it hangs out in my day bag. Whenever I leave that bag behind, I grab it and pop it on the back of my phone. It gives me the best of both worlds: a wallet case when I need it and a thinner, lighter phone when I don’t. I also think the wallet case works waaaay better with the silicon/leather case attached then just on a bare iPhone.
Agreed that the wallet isn't meant to be attached to your phone 24/7 - usually I have them in separate pockets, but having the option to stick it to the phone in certain situations is nice, like the bar situation you described.
I love it and it replaced my regular wallet. But the only thing i don‘t understand is, that all the Videos are showing this weird way to put the phone with the wallet in the pocket. I NEVER put my Phone like this in my Pocket. I allways have my Hand around my phone - also before i knew the MagSafe wallet 😅😅

I have the yellow leather case with the yellow wallet. I wanted to understand better how to use it because without taking it off the iPhone it is impossible to take out the cards. Then if you have only one metal card inside it usually end up in the pocket of the jeans when you try to take the phone out of the pocket. So one card is not enough
What I really do not understand out of all this setup is the following: if you have apple pay and apple digital wallet why to use the physical one?

I’m really keen to try one of theses, I am trying to stick to Apple Pay and that seems to going really well but I do need a wallet for driving license and maybe one debit card as a backup
I have one and love it. I keep my debit card if i need to access cash, health insurance and driver’s license. Everything else I need is in my Wallet app, including my Apple Card.

I have the MagSafe leather case as well as the wallet and I find that the wallet sticks to the leather case WAY better than it does to the bare glass back of the phone. You can actually hear an almost Velcro-like sound when you peel them apart.
Thanks for the comment. I just bought both for the same reason. I have a 12 Pro Max. So you think it helps to use the Apple cover as well?
Yeah it like sinks in after a little bit and is very hard to come off, I love it

I've been using the California poppy coloured one for about a couple of months now and here's how I use it: When I step out of my house, I attach the wallet to my phone and they're always in my pocket. When I need to use either of my cards, I slide the wallet off the phone while in the pocket and when I'm done, I attach it back on the phone. I never take out my phone during a transaction. Oh and I love the wallet colour, especially on my Pacific Blue iPhone.
I’m still not understanding the advantage of the magnetic wallet vs. a normal wallet phone case. I use a wallet phone case and don’t have to worry about the wallet falling off when I put it into it pocket.

If you put a hotel room card in it, can you tap the back of your phone to open the room? Or will the wallet block the sensor from reading the card?
My bank changed all its cards to etched and I able to fit two cards and ID. With no raised numbers bulge. It’s not the best wallet solution but I don’t see me using a regular wallet again. I like it
It’s funny, because I saw so many initial negative reviews. But now I see so many people have it in the background of their tech review videos of other stuff I decided to look it up again. Thanks for the video!
I would buy this if there were another larger wallet with MagSafe that I could attach this to. Then when I needed the smaller essentials I would just pull this wallet off the larger wallet. Or can MagSafe still work in this wallet if it is in a larger wallet?

I was shopping for a thin leather card wallet. They are all around $40-$50 and they hold about three-four cards. So I bought the Apple.
I am always leaving my wallet everywhere at home. If I must go out, my phone is always handy but my wallet is nowhere to be found. This way I will have both together and even if I remove the wallet in order to keep it in my pocket, when I return I will put them together again and I will not misplace my wallet. To me, that is quite convenient.
Also, I tend to fill up my current wallet with many cards and other stuff I don’t even use. This is another advantage.
I have my building access card. Will it work while it is inside the wallet?
I’ve always thought that you’d use this wallet if you were tying to minimise or slim down your wallet.
Maybe a night out with just the essentials.

while I've managed to get away with some of my cards such as loyalty cards as they are now in my apple wallet on my phone I still carry 5-6 cards so how many cards can you fit in this wallet and is it safe.
I do the same thing at bars thought I was crazy. When you’re sitting down you do have to stand up to get items needed so this way it’s only once!
Helpful. I let my cards just tumble around in my pocket with my keys and AirPods. I didn’t think to use it the way you described. Now I might have to get one!
Hi, I love ❤️ the Apple Wallet it’s awesome I have the brown saddle and I just bought the California Poppy and I love it .
The biggest problem is that you can’t access the cards without taking the Apple wallet off the phone. If the outside of the pocket was lower so that more card “real estate” was revealed, then you could get a fingernail under a card and and use your fingers to remove it without having to take the wallet off the phone.
@@MPD90 the person you replied to is an entire channel dedicated to magsafe wallets, I don't think they've missed the point.
I completely agree that a minimal wallet is the only way to go. I still get carded and having a DL with me is essential. Most places take Apple Pay but I always have my ATM even though I can use Apple Pay at Chase ATMs but haven’t tried other ATMs.
I’ve been debating to get one since they came out, debating yes and no. It’s going to be my main wallet though so I think I’ll just wait until the apple stores in the UK reopen and actually give it a try. I think it’s the only way to decide!
Is there a way to stretch the wallet so that eventually there’s space for 4 cards?

Wait, why dont u have your cards on the Wallet app? I only use my apple magsafe wallet for the metro and gym cards.. my bank cards are on the phone and use contactless to pay
I think most people miss the point of a wallet case. It's not meant to be your one and only wallet. It is meant to give quick access to your most used cards. If I'm running to the store to pick up some bread, I don't need my full wallet with medical insurance card, Costco card, etc. I just need my phone, car key, and this super minimal wallet. As an added bonus, I can stick it to my phone so I have fewer loose things floating around in my pocket. I keep all my other cards in a Ridge Wallet that stays in my bag. Depending on where I'm going, I might leave the bag in the car or leave it at home. When I'm at home the wallet is in a bowl with my keys by the door; I have no need to carry it around in my house.
The magnets are not super strong but I have never once had any concern about sliding the phone into my pocket and the wallet falling off. It takes zero effort for me to ensure that doesn't happen.
If you're looking for a full replacement for your wallet, then you need to look for one of those folio phone cases with many card slots and a cash section. They exist and they work for many people but good luck getting that into your pocket. Those who go that route are most often going to keep it in a purse or bag.

I hate carrying a wallet as well. You gave me ideas about not trying to carry some many cards. Yes I wished you could get 4 cards in there. I need to put drivers lic, debit card and costco card, and because I am 74 yrs old I use my blue cross and blue shield a lot. Ha. A fan below suggested putting some cards in my apple/phone wallet. Good Idea

I find it very hard to get cards out of the wallet .
I got the popsocket wallet+ because I wanted a wallet and the ability to use the popsocket car mount. I love the functionality but I don’t like the look or the bulkiness.
I’m getting this apple wallet and using the popsocket one exclusively as a magsafe car mount.
Used my wallet for one card since launch...as a back up and to save taking a wallet with me. Magnet needs to be a bit stronger but overall works well for me
I initially thought I wasn't going to like the wallet but after a bit of use it's really opened my eyes. I love having my two most valuable things in one spot that I can keep safe at all times. Also I thought 3 cards wasn't enough but I actually rarely every need more than that. License, Debit card and I swap the third. Sometimes a gift card or a hotel key. Apple Wallet takes care of the rest. Also regarding the magnet, with the leather case I've never had a problem. Maybe the one I have is updated (just bought it) but the magnets are actually really strong. Never has the wallet even came close to falling off. Overall I love it even though at first I wasn't a fan.
In the UK I haven’t had to take a wallet out since like the iPhone 7 due to how fast Apple Pay has been adopted. Only take one out if I might need ID, still bought this however because I’m a sucker for MagSafe and Apple leather products!
I have a lot of trouble taking the cards out I just use it with two cards and my drives license
I ordered a black wallet to go with the leather case amazon sent me instead of the silicone one I ordered, I have low expectations but I was between getting a Ridge or something and it makes a bit more sense to not have additional edges inside my pocket so I’m giving it a try. I still think I’ll end up picking the silicone case regardless, I’m not a huge fan of how leather wears and I’m kind of a clean freak and I kinda worry about leather with heavy soap and/or alcohol usage.
And yes, I also do the _”all the things out of the pocket”_ thing and with how I’ve scripted my life, I almost always have my phone in my hand and my pockets empty. Just the fact of picking up the wallet from the desk with the phone without touching it, clipping it or stuff it in my pockets seems to be good enough to earn the overpriced pricetag.

I don’t see the magsafe wallet lasting very long. The magnet isn’t strong enough and we already have the original wallets which doubles up as a protector too. I keep all my cards are on my phone and when I do need one of two cards I carry with me, it's in a slim case.
Mine has NEVER fallen off. I’ve even tried to make it fall off. I use the Apple Silicon case.
I like the mag wallet because it prevents me from leaving my wallet behind at the bar/restaurant/checkout counter .
4th card is key. also the wallet seems to work really well with 13mini, but it doesnt work so well with 13 regular size. it wobbles. when you go to grab the phone, the wallet almost falls off as you go to grab the phone. i think its the size of the magnet. they used the same sized magnet for both phones.
he even mentions in the review '13 regular' needs to have stronger magnet. it is pretty strong for the 13 mini, just is weak on the regular, because magnet is small.
They need to increase the size of the magnet in the 13 regular.
I love MacRumors, I do. But 6:25 on a magnetic wallet is 6 minutes too long.

I have 50 bucks gift card for apple accessories... and I have 13 pro gold. I don't want to cover it in the leather or silicone case. So the choice is to either get a clear applee case or.... an apple wallet. Maybe instead of hauling whole big wallet with me, I could just have id, driving license and credit card with me and ditch the big wallet. I don't have anything else in it... This might be an interesting option.

I use only apply pay so don’t really need a wallet but I find sometimes when I need cash I have a problem. Wish I could draw money without a wallet.

So thanks for clarifying “how it works”. The best use I was planning for it was to use it at the subway to pay the train, just put the T card inside. It was like a obvious use for it but if that can’t work because you can’t take it constantly out of your pockets then... This is just literally a fancy wallet on you iPhone 12. Thankfully I bought a $14 one from Amazon.
Try buying one of the used ones on amazon. I bought the cheap wallet first, because the apple wallets were out of stock. As soon as I got my apple wallet the difference was obvious. If you pair it with a MagSafe case, the wallet is almost impossible to knock off unintentionally. If you’re using the $14 wallet, you will not regret getting the apple wallet.

USA here; yes, if you drive a car, you have to have your ID. He said he doesn’t need keys anymore, so maybe he doesn’t drive anymore? Idk...or maybe he has a Tesla and just keeps his ID in the car? Idk.

My wallet consists of card for my car, drivers license, one debit card. Rest is hope and pray for Apple Pay. Most likely just going to start using my Apple Card for everything and then just make micro payments along the way so it no longer becomes an issue but I usually just my credit card for big purchases so things don’t get away from me.

I don’t understand. I have this. I wear REALLY tight pants. And I have not had it fall off. Once. At all. Like... I’ve even tried to get it to fall off when putting my phone in and out of my pocket. Hasn’t. Also... people saying you can’t get the cards out. Place your prominent card in the BACK of the wallet with the raised numbers facing the thumb hole in the wallet. I do that and use my nails on the numbers to pop the card out. NEVER an issue for me. I thought I’d hate this and it would fall off all the time. But it’s my favorite accessory for my phone I’ve ever had.
I bought it because I don’t want to have it attached to my phone when I am at home and don’t need my wallet on me. Same at work, I rarely need to have my wallet on me and prefer to keep it in my coat. If I do need it it adds little to no bulk and can stay on the phone. I have been enjoying this wallet since it arrived. I would agree that stronger magnets would definitely improve the experience, but I am very happy with the setup compared to a separate wallet.
If you want a stronger magnet get a case that has a stronger magnet. I have the rebel gen 2 phone case by everything Apple pro. And it’s definitely a stronger magnet. Haven’t had my wallet fall off once.
What car do you have that doesn’t need keys?
I’m using the MagSafe wallet just as a cardcase without any phone. Love it. Quality is much better then my MCM (150€) cardholder.

The MagSafe Wallet seems to create more problems than it sets out to fix. And I still can't work out what problems it was trying to solve in the first place.

Hope that Apple Pay is available...??? In Australia it’s ubiquitous. It’s supported everywhere because of our baking EFTPOS system. Never need to worry if it’s going to be accepted or not here. Sounds like that’s not the case everywhere.

@@macrumors Wow. I’m really shocked by that. In Australia we must be very lucky. We’ve had PayPass (tap to pay) Visa and MasterCard for years and Apple/Google Pay just before came an extension of that. There’s no signs anywhere about ‘ApplePay accepted her’ or anything like that. It just works. I use my Apple Watch to pay for everything on any EFTPOS device. Always works regardless of where I am.
That’s a ridiculously specific use for a wallet with a magnet that costs $50.

Exactly. I bought it even when I didn't have the iPhone 12 at the time! I just wanted a nice wallet for backup debit, credit card and driving licence. I'd been looking for a small wallet with no metal to so it can go in the same pocket as my phone with keys in the other pocket.
been using this wallet for a while and it has never fell off my phone, like never. and I just love how the phone feels when I use it and I've got the magsafe wallet on.

I’ve been using the MagSafe leather wallet for two whole months now. Before this I used a typical wallet with many cards, cash etc. I’ve always wanted to have a minimal wallet and the magsafe gave me an opportunity to try this. I agree with Macrumors in that I WISH it could fit just one more card. I am a military spouse and have to carry a DOD ID to get on post and my drivers license. That only leaves me with one credit card for buying things. So I’ve been making do with Apple Pay to pay with other cards if I need to and to be honest it’s been working. If I suspect I will need an additional credit card and I know I’m not going on the military base I will leave that ID at home and carry the extra credit card. However I do wish I could fit just one more card in this wallet. As far as the magnetic strength I don’t seem to have a problem! I think it’s strong enough to be honest with you. I’m using a Apple OEM clear case though and maybe the case is enhancing the magnetic strength
You don’t want the magnet to be too strong since you need to remove the wallet to get a card out. Even without the wallet, I don’t put my phone in my pocket as demonstrated-the most logical way is to hold your phone like you’re using it, then slip it in without any adjustment in your hand, which if you have a wallet attached, won’t come off because it’s protected by your hand. Why do reviewers jump to conclusions in initial reviews then realize later there’s a purpose to everything. Does Apple think of all use-cases? No (ex. Mouse with the charging lightning cable on the bottom), but do they think of most use cases? Yes. Are these videos created so they can create initial outrage, then create even more content to backtrack? 🧐
They should make an apple wallet pro that holds 5 cards and live tracking capabilities. 🤔

I have them detached half the time. I come home and put the wallet in the fridge so I don't forget where I put it. When I go out, they're together and in my pocket. Getting cards out can be a pain, though, and it's driving me to use Apple pay more often than I used to. Overall I still like mine though.

Don't have a MagSafe wallet but I think it's a great accessory although mileage will vary. About wallet card positioning, I try to alternate left/right facing so that no two CC card numbers are laying on top of each other.
I came home after a walk one day to find a handwritten letter that said “I found your wallet on the floor, come to address x to get it back”.
That’s when I decided the mag wallet was shite. I didn’t even realise I’d lost mine and it took the kindness of a stranger to find it!

I was “Luke warm” on the wallet too at the beginning. Now i love them. I have 2. One carries my Id, debit card and primary credit card plus and an emergency $20 neatly folded up. The second one has 2 back up credit cards and my insurance card. I leave my second wallet in my backpack most of the time, sometimes i stick them on the side of the refrigerator when home. If I am making a purchase on my back up cards i will carry my second wallet in my right pocket as my iPhone and primary wallet is always in my left pocket. A routine that works for me. One is brown and one is black to i don’t have to worries about getting them mixed up.

So, it’s a slim wallet that fits 3 cards? I’m not convinced man. You can get those anywhere for 20 dollars (Herschel) like I did. It’s either attached or it’s not. Would we ever justify the sloppy in-between if this wasn’t Apple? Definitely not.
