It's amazing how technically advanced that little transmission is.... Got to love Traxxas! I have two jato's, one T-Maxx 3.3., one Revo 3.3, and an electric stampede! And I love them all...😁..
Hey JR! I'm going good bro, just busy as all get out! This video is really old, and I do have newer transmission videos where I completely tear everything inside down. If you have not seen it, check out the playlist. I will link just the transmission videos and the full playlist. I am trying to find time to get back into the hobby, it's really hard right now. I do miss chatting with you all every week! Hope you are doing well too! Now if the snow we just received will go away haha. "That sucker ain't going nowhere I'll end up breaking this shaft .. But that feels really good... Excellent!" love the passion! Great Video's man, I'm a Heli freak myself.. 4503d all carbon'd . Just need to beef up the motor. But watching these videos, I'm getting more interested in nitro buggies and such. thanks for the info.
Thank you for your Transmission tutorial . I am going to attack mine and see what going on with it not rolling backwards even by hand . I don't know if you remember my story or not .My only surviving child (My other beloved son passed away 2 years ago in a car accident ) But my surviving son gave me his truck that has been bashed for a few years .I want to extend it and make it bigger .This truck is priceless to me because he gave it to me for Christmas .It needs a lot of work but I've been fighting for 3 years to get my disability so I am broker than a Hobo .He gave me his pride and joy because I was getting bored and can't do much .And that's the story on my T-Maxx .
Sounds like the dog that shifts into second is stuck, or the setting is just too tight on the transmission. I do have very detailed videos on this transmission. click here --> ua-cam.com/play/PLabJwbJaz4QuWqKXO5IQByu8D6_rn2c9F.html
Can you tell me on the spur gear how many pins are there suppose to be? I picked up 1 used traxxas t maxx and 1 s maxx trucks from same person.. But...both trucks only have six pins in the spur gear each. I don't know if there should be 12 each spur can you let me know ty
There should be 12. The more you have the stronger it can hold and the more you can tune your slipper. You can also take away pins to tune it, but I try not to do that. www.Rc-Help.com
I'm pretty sure the 4685's will work. Most of those are red, but the ones that I used in the new T-Maxx series are black. You can see them in the video below. ua-cam.com/video/CkXxYPa_tVE/v-deo.html
Thanks. Be sure to check out the new transmission videos that I just released on the 2.5 T-Maxx that I rebuilt. Way more information on these transmissions. ua-cam.com/video/hmbG_RkHLbY/v-deo.html
I really appreciate u offering to make a special video 4 me .but got really mad that i could not follow the instuctions .so i went the hobbie shop here and got to see the owner and told him his employees would not bother with me since i had out of date rc truck .so he told me to go get it all and bring it in he took ten minuets and brought me out my transmission all to gether. Ive got me aluminum differentals ready to go to gether (can i u red wheel bearing grease in those???) U have t-maxxes so u know how much plastic their is .sport maxx no more all aluminum t-maxx now.i have found it all in aluminum .integy rc.has it .ive been on to my moms health failing so needed to go see her .other wise i would have responde before now .very thoughtful of u to offer to make that video 4 me .what can i put in the transmission for lubricanting those gears ???.if u dont feel like answering my questions thats find or if u feel like im a botering u .u seem to know alot so why not ask .thankx tony .message from kevin.
So I just rebuilt my entire tmax, I switched it to forward only conversion because I don't like my reverse and I put a 3.3 in it notorious for destroying reverse anyways, but when I put my transmission in both output shafts spin the same direction but now my wheels spin opposite of each other,
i bought a traxxas t maxx 2.5 off somebody who sold it cheap. when i got it home the transmission was spinning freely including the black axel that sticks out the side offside of the spur gear's axel. however there is absoulutely no drive between the transmission and the driveshafts.
hi, i have a t maxx transmission issue. i bought a used t maxx. everything worked fine until I replaced my starter now it won't move. I checked the slipper first then tore in. everything looks clean and moves freely with no stripped gears or obvious broken parts. i've moved the shift servo both ways by hand, nothing. tuned the engine still nothing if i blow on the spur with a air compressor the output shafts will finally twitch at high rpm. checked gear mesh with paper too. ???
can you advise? im fairly competent with my other nitro transmissions but as this was broke before i owned it i have no idea what should be doing what. the fact that it also has a reverse and a shifter fork makes it beyond my comprehension?
my traxxas tmaxx inst even turning over what do you think will fix it i have new glow plug, batteries and fresh gas what do you think would do the trick? do i have to clean anything out ??
If you look inside the transmission on the input shaft (the same shaft the spur gear is on) it is likely the grease has completely caked the dog and will not allow it to fly out when it should. You should see a small metal piece that when pried gently should come out. It will have tension that makes it want to go back in, but cleaning this should solve the issue. There is another dog on the high/low gear set that allows it to shift. Do the same thing to this one as well. Don't forget to put grease back into the transmission. Any grease will do. I use standard axle grease for a car. www.Rc-Help.com
I know we are usually pretty good at questions, but I have no idea what "thing" is referring to. Come over to the forum and post up some pictures of what you are working on and we will get you sorted out. www.Rc-Help.com
Wow, thank you very much! What size of car should go with that 3.3 engine gearbox? 1/8 is too small? I haven't found much of axles and stuff on other sizes. I'll check your site and see if I can create an account and check the blog later after i get to a proper computer. Thanks
so i have a question i rebuilt my tmaxx classic and added the 4x4 [didnt have when i got it ] the day i tryed to run it after the rebuild my t-maxx goes in reverse only and i have it set up with no reverse at all could you tell me why it does this
They are pretty strong. I have never stripped the gears out but I know others that have. Just depends on how you run it and how much dirt you can keep out of it. www.Rc-Help.com
Which gear did you melt? If it's the spur gear on the outside, that is actually pretty common, especially with the 2.5 and 3.3 models. You have to get the gear mesh just right for them to last a good long while. www.Rc-Help.com
It is likely a newer transmission with auto shifter (I think it's called). If you post a picture on our forum, we can tell you for sure. www.Rc-Help.com
Im really sorry i bothered u about that silver gear in the transmission .i have no idea how to install it the instuctions are not clear to me .u did not take gear out so no idea how to in stall it .so since im bumb on this reverse insal it will stay out .sorry i waisted your time.u dont need to respond ive made u mad so .again trying to instal 2speed and reverse for first ti me sorry im not smart as every ony else u deal with so big sorry for waisting u time .no need to resond or respond in angry manner .
Kevin, you didn't make me mad at all. If you are still having issues with installing that idler gear, I can see about removing the transmission from my T-Maxx and see if I can do a dedicated video on that gear and how to install it. But in no way was I mad or upset over a member asking a question. I'm always happy to help! Please allow me some time and I will see if I can make some time to pull this transmission out. Come over to the forum and remind me. Someone there may have their transmission already removed for even faster help. www.Rc-Help.com

I found out it's in the slipper clutch and the gear mesh .There is no spring on the clutch
Subscribed. Very detailed oriented, thanks. Do you have videos on how to fix a stuck gear? Or what you would do if your Tmaxx is stuck on 1st gear?

@freakstyle2030 Is it something with my differential or transmission?
My tmaxx wouldn't shift into high gear and now it won't even move. It just revs up but doesn't go. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Can you get heavy duty transmission for tmaxx 2.5?
Not that I know of but you may be able to find some alloy gears to put in it. It's going to be expensive though. www.Rc-Help.com
