just saw benny this week in Detroit jazz café- his presentation of jazz history with johnC and others were so moving and inspiring--- national treasure
Brian, this is one of the best interviews you've done. Chapeau! Very good questions. Golson is damn handsome and has really something to say. A living history book. Just brilliant!!! - Merry christmas ! p.s. The Ben Webster_Don Byas_Lucky Thompson stories are stunning too.
I am so lucky to be one of the few who watch this interview (less than a thousand in ten years???). Golson was a unique saxophonist with his own sound and his own approach to improvisation. And of course a composer of timeless pieces that always sound fresh. The whole package !
Here's the latest edition of The Pace Report featuring saxophonist and NEA Jazz Master Benny Golson Live at the Jazz Standard in NYC with Buster Williams on Bass, Carl Allen on drums, and Mike LeDonne on piano. Enjoy!
