ACKUALLY “I wanna be the fangame!” was the first fangame. And along with it came the first engine which was the basis for almost every fangame since!
It came out in 2008 :D
thank you for the info, i did not know that! always very fun to find out stuff about a new community im into, im a bit dumb and still learning :)
Gundude game was the first fangame, there were a couple of fangames released before iwbtfangame
This is a nice lil' intro to the community! There's a LOT to cover about it if you wish to look into the more comprehensive history (Kiyoshi's Over-Detailed Timeline of Everything is a good place to start). The story of the IWBTG fangames community isn't just the story of one community, but of many different smaller communities across the world and the ways they are linked together. My intro was through watching the Twitch streamer TenShotsTV, who speedran various IWBTG fangames, and it was thanks to the hilarious creative works of Stonk that I took an interest in the community at large as well as creating fangames of my own. The community has been through many eras, with the types of fangames and the concepts they cover constantly evolving over time. In a sense, it's not just an IWBTG fangame community anymore, but a legitimate novice game developer community, where creators are allowed to make *anything* they put their minds to, using the original assets as a jumping-off point. (Say...ever heard of I Wanna Lockpick? Hehe I digress.) It's a community that tries its damnedest to honor the makers, players, and community as a whole, to the extent that there are even annual fangaming events such as Fangame Marathon and FASF for speedrunning, as well as The Fangame Awards for featuring the best fangames and community member contributions of each year. The contents of this video are just the tip of the iceberg; there's a LOT more once you truly start to immerse yourself, should you choose to. Either way, thanks for covering this!
im glad you enjoyed the video! thank you for including so much information in your comment, it was sure an intereting read! ill make sure to continue doing research on the community, as i really enjoy hanging around it
4 months later this video was what really got me into the iwbtg community and fangames, thank you for this :)
comments like these are what really makes my day, im really glad you liked the video! much love
calling celeste a rage game is... a take. not all precision platformers are rage games; imo the "rage game" genre requires the game to lean into memorization of unpredictable death traps, or extreme progressional setbacks from small mistakes.
completely fair point! but i feel like it follows the general concept of rage games while still being its own thing, and being the closest thing to a rage game to actually become mainstream and widely beloved, hence why i included it
vanilla celeste definetly isn't. modded celeste on the other hand...
I'm glad that this video exists!!
IWBTG fangames are so variable and really cool to look in general. A lot of them have so different takes from originality and difficulty and that made me love it a lot
There's also a Mario Maker-like game on Steam that's called I Wanna Maker!!
Very good job on the video!
heard about i wanna maker, play it occasionally :)
glad you enjoyed the video!!
im gonna have a talk to the algorithm after this... IT NEEDS TO RECOMMEND THIS MORE!!!
Super well done video, really nice to see this kind of thoughtful coverage of the community. Was a very unexpected and pleasant surprise to get a shoutout in something like this. Keep up the amazing work!
love your stuff man, glad you enjoyed my video! keep up the good work and thanks for watching
It's fancinating how skilled those who play the more extreme IWBTG fan games, stuff like IWKTK3.
true, these people are incredibly dedicated
It's funny how K3 was considered one of the hardest I wannas, then it wasn't anymore, and then they released the extra stages and now it's one of the hardest fangames again lol
As a community member who started playing fangames in 2018 and found out about the existence of the community by randomly rewatching a video from mastermaxify (one if the best players in the community and content creator) in feb 2022, i can say it is pretty hidden yeah.
But on a serious note, this community is the best community I've been in. It also really changed me as a community member, from being random toxic guy to a good person. Glad to see someone making a video on this topic and talking about us ;)
glad you enjoyed the video :)
Back in 2012 or so, Chile's (back then) biggest youtuber made his whole career about playing IWBTG fangames, so it's funny to me that there might be a whole generation of people in my country kind of aware of this unknown internet community.
didnt know about that! wish there was more content on this game
algorithm is smothering this video fr
its doin pretty well cant lie
I am so glad the videos was on my homescreen, this is so good and well made and talks about a lot.
glad you enjoyed! subscribe for more awesome content :)
@@ignDevi Thanks for reminding me, i actually forgot to subscribe because i was just watching the video lmao
IWBTG fangames do go kind of hard if I say so myself. Nice to see someone covering our community of gamers
glad you liked the video!
dude this is actually so well done what
i love you swirrel
i believe in swirrel supremacy
Ayyy fangame coverage, nice. As a hibernating member of the community, it's nice to see someone talking about us.
thank you! im glad you enjoyed the video
What video did you guys watch just before this one?
Yomihustle gameplay
Osu!catch gameplay
Literally nothing, it was on my recommended page when I opened youtube.
Well done man great commentary
thank you!
There is a channel named fatalbrain1000, who has been making IWBTG videos since 2011. (He's Japanese BTW)
I personally love hard games, and whenever I play a game I always pick the hardest difficulty. As well as I often come back to games which I enjoyed and try to beat them with some challenge and limitations, and doing challenges in games, or no hitting games, is incredibly fun for me
a challenge is always exciting, i feel ya
Wtf how does this video have so little views? I thought this was a 100-200k views video easily. Seriously man the production quality of this video is really good and the vibe of the video is really cozy and neat. The good part i guess is that the algorithym brought me here so maybe the other 100k might come in soon.
Hope the best of luck to your channel man, you rock!
thank you so much for the kind words, this means a lot!
didn't think we'd ever get this kind of vid lol, cool to see thx :)
glad you liked it :)
Great video! It definitely makes me glad to see people acknowledging this community that I've been a part of for 10 years, it's an amazing community :)
thank you! im glad you enjoyed it :)
as a very respected member of the "I wanna community" I approve of this video
thank you for your approvement, i appreciate it kind sir
Fangames is love
Fangames is life
Well this video is criminally underrated
glad you liked it :)
What the fuck why are there like 3 views on this in the past 4 hours? Commenting for the algorithm this deserves more views 🙏
thank you brotha, hoping this blows up
very cool video, enjoyed seeing this about the community i love
If you are interested on playing some fangames I would personally recommend to be pretty cautious when downloading some, since a lot of them can have trojans inside
not if you download them from trusted sources tho, for example geezers completed fangames list!
This video needs more hype and some love from the UA-cam algorithm
i really hope it gets the algorithm love! thanks for the positive feedback :)
hey thats me
Yo this video kinda blew up slay devi
yuh will do, ty
Acheron wave with cat mario music caught me offguard
zoink cat mario remix
@@ignDevi Your writing is actually quite good. Surprised to see that on a small channel. Wish you luck in growth, you got massive potential homie
@@faiiilcat thank you so much! i appreciate that a lot honestly
I wanna kill the youtube algorithm
i wanna be the big youtuber
hi youtube algorithm
algorithm, where you at?
Блин, почему у такого качественного контента так мало просмотров..?
не знаю, надеюсь в скором времени просмотры пойдут вверх
and I thought I was original as fuck
iwbtg forever!!!!
true!!!!
I WANNA BE THE GUY!
me too man, me too
am i the only person who plays geometry dash for fun and sometimes to relax?
honestly youre probably in the 1% lol, most gd players i know are really competetive
rage games and skill games are diferent. when unfair games can get people interested in a game to stay popular you need to have depth in it. as someone who played i wanna games only very little i instantly noticed the simple deep controls of the character and how its really fun to play. i wanna games are skill games that may or may not have unfair traps to make them rage games.
also imagine talking about hard games and not mentioning touhou but mentioning geometry dash of all things smh
thats completely fair to call a lot of the iwbtg fangames skill based, but i would like to generalize the whole branch as rage games as the original is exactly that - using a lot of clever, funny and usually unfair traps
plus i mentioned geometry dash because i have 15743 hours in it on steam. and i dont really know much about touhou.
still thanks for the feedback!
