in all honesty, the SHMA Shimo has kind of made me re-assess how much i even really want to engage with Godzilla articulated figures nowadays, and it's for a number of factors. for one thing, it's just the general overwhelming amount of GxK figures. now, i get that. it's the most recent Godzilla movie, and Adam Wingard said as much that making it "toyetic" was part of the goal. even so, especially as someone who's pretty indifferent about GxK's new designs, i feel like around the board we've spent these past few months seeing the same figures over and over. if it isn't a repaint of an older figure (true for both SHMA and Hiya) it's seeing whichever company's version of GxK monsters... and POTENTIALLY even more as well, considering SHMA has the GxK Mothra and Suko on their consumer survey list. but even then, what else is there? say you're looking for figures from the Japanese Godzilla films, then what? Hiya announced their Heisei Ghidorah, which is definitely promising about the types of liberties they may have with their sort of "legacy" Godzilla line, as i'll call it. but i think even that is also indicative of another trend i've noticed: the large amount of articulated Heisei figures. and again, i get why that's the case. the Heisei kaiju are TOHO's golden goose, they're perfect for marketing; it's why the Heisei Godzilla is sort of the de-facto face of the franchise. and that can have its' upsides too, it's nice to have your pick of the litter. but even so, i feel like these things happen at the expense of other Godzilla eras. we now have roughly TEN different versions of the Heisei Godzilla as figures. i certainly wouldn't want SHMA to be the only ones, given how old and expensive some of their figures have become, but i'm getting a bit worried that we may be seeing figures of the same monsters coming out repeatedly. and so to that i ask, what about the other eras? even ignoring the reasons TOHO is timid about making Showa figures, what of the Millennium era? what if, say, GMK was your favorite Godzilla movie? you've got GMK Godzilla figures, of course, but one of them is very stylized (NECA) and the other is a tad hard to come by (SHMA) and even then, that's it. if you want any of that film's other monsters, your options are vinyl figures or X-Plus, just about. i'm not doom and gloom about this whole thing, mind you. i think this "problem" will largely be sorted out by the end of this year, and especially in the years to follow when GxK's marketing blitz dies down and we wait for the Grant Sputore Monsterverse film. who knows, maybe Hiya will go off the beaten path and start making Millennium figures. but for now, i'll end off this comment that's WAY longer than it really needs to be with a comparison of sorts... a few years back, SHMA was pretty much the only Godzilla line i collected. it was really the only line there was. other brands started popping up, and i'd certainly now have to think twice and think things over a bit more, but generally, my money went to the big lizard... then i became an Ultraman fan. seems almost like they release S.H.Figuarts Ultraman figures much faster than S.H.Monsterarts does with Godzilla. so often times, i'd have to choose on if i'd get a Godzilla figure, or an Ultraman figure. but with how things have been now, the choice has basically been made for me. look no further than the S.H.Figuarts King of Mons that was recently announced. even if you don't know a lick about Ultraman, it doesn't take that knowledge to recognize how good that figure looks. lots of intricate details, joint lines that are just visible enough to know how to pose it, but not blatant enough to make it feel like JUST an action figure. and all that for probably at most $150 when pre-orders go up in the US. i looked at it, and i had to ask myself why Godzilla can't get that same kind of treatment. for now, i think my money's going to the big chrome superhero instead, but i figured i'd give my personal feelings on the state of Godzilla articulated action figures. TL;DR it's exhausting, and drives me even to take a break from collecting Godzilla for the time being.
The scaling with Hiya is probably a licensing term agreement with Bandai or Legendary. There's no way they'd deliberately make a smaller shimo after making Ghidorah.
To be fair Monsterverse has had scaling issues since King of the Monsters, it took years before Mechagodzilla got an official weight and height estimate.

I believe that image was SH propaganda that won't end up being the real scale. They put an actual image of the Hiya figure next to CONCEPT ART. they don't even have the real figure to show, which makes this hard to believe. Now If I'm wrong, Then I'll accept it. But size won't make for a good figure. Not to mention, if shimo IS that big, then it's out of scale

Seems like if one were to curl the tail, it'd actually be pretty reasonably sized. Price point kills any thoughts I had of purchasing it though. It was one thing for me to grab Iris and Biollante, let alone Shimo.

biollante is 230 dollars while shimo is 240 on bigbadtoystore but bio has a gimmick while shimo has none so I don't know if she will sell but reviewers are definently gonna review it
The scaling with Hiya toys is perfect if you have seen the leaked photos. I think what most people are not realizing is there is a difference between "bigger" and "taller." Shimo is bigger than Godzilla in length and body mass. Godzilla is taller than shimo. The only time she is taller is when she is standing on her hind legs she dwarfs Godzilla, kinda like the movie. I highly recommend watching Rubi Gamingx video on it. It came out a couple months ago. Really puts the figure's size into perspective bc it is massive. I hope this comment gets pinned so people are more aware. The Hiya toy will be bigger than the SHMA in body mass, but the SHMA with be longer and more lanky. Another thing to point out is that the scaling in the movie for shimo is constantly off. Compare the scene when she first shows up and the scene when skar king and his army are heading towards the Iwi village. She is smaller from the first time we saw her. I think they messed up in trying to make her look massive and overdid the first time we saw her.
A Japanese reviewer I follow made a video on this topic, and his Japanese-speaking comment section was also mentioning the cost and declining reputation of the line, so it’s not as if domestic fans are complacent or English-speaking collectors are the only ones being priced out.

iris could've sell faster had they didn't include the wings. That thing with the dedicated stand probably equal to buying another shm in plastic mass. Not to mention the box dimension it added for shipping. Could probably be cheaper had they include it in a different release, like a night sky look for the truly dedicated fans. The scale is slightly off, but i am going with hiya for the simple fact that shm is inaccurate but also way too expensive. I am hoping hiyas figure will be bigger than it appears as they have been really good with the scale. Regardless, I still prefer it.

Idk if this is considered fair or anything and I know it is two different franchises and licensing but Figuarts revealed King of Mons from the Ultraman Gaia which is 5 inches taller than Shimo and is half the price of it in usd being only $105.
Didn't talk about what i think of this figure here when it was fully shown. So I'll do that here. I personally love this figure! Like her crystal spikes being clear! I also really like the colors on it! With the smaller purples and yellow colors! I also love the design with the more shark like face on the figure! I personally like shimos design with a longer jaw (my personal design that i made for shimo back when the cod event happened had a longer jaw similar to the shma). One thing i don't like are the tail spikes.. i don't really understand why they have balljoints on them.. but other than that. Goid chance this could be a top 5 favorite figure for me!!! Also. I do plan on getting the hiya as well. Just for variety, and i want to give hiya another chance.. even with what happened with the two G19s i had.. As for how this figure will sell. I have no clue, honestly. I hope it does well only because i want more shma mv kaiju. I'd love a wartdog figure! Or a queen muto figure!

I don't think you are paying enough attention to the feedback of this thing. At LEAST 80% of the feedback is negative. This won't sell well. Especially due to clearly declining quality in Tamashii Nation's figures and not knowing how to apply a proper price point to their product.
Incorrect. I was looking forward to seeing SH Shimo's reveal and to pre-order. After seeing it, I lost all interest as it stands. The Hiya despite being underscaled looks leagues better, and for a third the price, a no-brainer for me.
There’s a new precedent being set in the toy market, especially in the Godzilla market. It’s time to either change with the times or continue being ignorant and letting companies rip you off. But I guess you’re fine getting your money stolen for wack quality.
There was a lot of uproar for the GxK standard releases and those sold out I believe. People aren't happy with this situation but will buy still🤣 but with Hiya giving another option this may not be the case🤷.
Where I'm struggling with this, is that I have all SHMA figures at this point. The Hiya Shimo looks better, but I feel like I should stick with the brand, if nothing else so they match and have scale more accurate.
The solution? Get both. Don't let brand loyatly stop you from enjoying either. And if you ever decide later one's not doing it for you compared to the other, you can always sell!
Skar King was standing on Shimo's back for a ride and at the end Kong was standing next to her petting her like she was the height of a horse compared to a human. Maybe they don't remember
I bought a 3d painted power glove for Kong $58.00 off Etsy and he's on eBay also.. and as in the tooth I just use a metallic dark gray pen seriously that's all i did. 😂 So I really don't need to have to buy the sh MonsterArts figure
I hope that Hiya would increase the size or Michael being inaccurate on this case. Thus far, Hiya had been so consistent with how to-scale their every figure was with one another (excluding K:SI to the rest). I know there should be a price increase if they were going to increase the size now, but maybe they could covered it up with the re-release (ice blast Shimo and transluscent ice blast Shimo) and make those two a bit pricier (maybe $65-70). I checked Shimo's size on quadrupedal stance, it suppsoed to be 17-ish cm in Hiya's scale (1:666,6) being the real quadrupedal height at 114,3 m. Granted quadrupedal stance is still a bit relative, with how high or low her neck and arms are, but if the default quadrupedal stance refered to is the same, then yes Hiya Toys Shimo is a bit smaller. With SHMA, they're going to get burned at the stake if they decrease the size now, so better off just keeping a close eye on dem QC. Edit: Never mind. I misremembered the height. My memory screwed me and I ended up remembering G14 height and not Shimo. Yea, Shimo is 17 cm, which I'm sorry, Kyle, but no it is not smaller. It is in fact to-scale. At least with what is her size is said to be, 114,3 m or 375 ft
Official stats on height aren't always followed in the movies, especially during action sequences. For example, in GvK they inflate Kong's "official" height by ~80% next to the Bank of China tower. The stats around the quadruped stance might indeed make proper figure scaling tricky, though.

It will sell because SHMA already has a name on the market and many people buy products not because of the quality of the product but purely because of the brand no matter if they are getting an inferior product. Reminds me of the guy that was selling me a car. He told me how his customers were going for a 4 or 5 years old Audi for a certain price when he was showing them newer Skodas for the same price or less but had way more extras, a segment above, the Skoda was better equipped with more recent tech since Audi felt no need to improve due to doing well in the market so the newer comparable Audi was below the Skoda in equipment and tech and best of all they are for all purposes the same car as Skoda and Audi belong to the VW group so they share the same engines, tech and chassis. Yet people still went for the Audi.
Locking the kong fist behind shimo is enough to prevent me buying Kong, Shimo, or evolved Godzilla from monsterarts. If they want to continue this kind of stupidity, while also putting out bad paint apps on not quite accurate figures while having extremely tough competition in the form of hiya, I will simply support the competition. I never bought neca because, while good, they werent quite up to par with shma. Hiya has it over shma now, its near impossible to justify shma now.
I hope she doesn't sell so they learn not to do this accessory lock again. So they stop this concept art bs. TAS talks about sending feedback but he never acknowledges that the MV is 10 YEARS OLD. We haven't gotten a single film accurate release in 10 years and theres been A LOT of reviews and people complaining in a constructive way. Steven was one of the many until he ran out of patience. And on top of not listening to anyone now they are locking accessories. Still, i know tas doesn't have anything to do with the shma bs and thanks to him for putting effort into all this scale thing
I don't see how my personal opinion matters with this information, but to say that I don't acknowledge that any of these are 1:1 with what's seen on screen is quite a take. Anyone with eyes can see that, and I'm not blind. The MV line is far from perfect. 👍
@ParrotsAccount its not screen accurate at all. Face is a little different and Evo Godzilla is not that green, or even at all green. It just a good-looking figure. Too bad the quality looks to be only the sculpt and paint job. Sucks that the damn thing can't stand on its own. I seen the picture of it having to be glued down and it couldn't even hold a pose more than a week. Looks like he's trying to take a radioactive poo. Also it is the prototype, and in most case with Tamashi Nations, the final product is always worst and has bad quality control.
(3:59) I think the scale looks fine compared to the other figures. From what I remember in the movie I think she was that size (especially next to Kong at the end of the film). There was a lot of uproar for the GxK standard releases and those sold out I believe. People aren't happy with this situation but will buy still🤣 but with Hiya giving another option this may not be the case🤷.

Where I'm struggling with this, is that I have all SHMA figures at this point. The Hiya Shimo looks better, but I feel like I should stick with the brand, if nothing else so they match and have scale more accurate.
The solution? Get both. Don't let brand loyatly stop you from enjoying either. And if you ever decide later one's not doing it for you compared to the other, you can always sell!

Her scaling was weird and off in the movie multiple times. She looks bigger than the height that they have given.

I hope that Hiya would increase the size or Michael being inaccurate on this case. Thus far, Hiya had been so consistent with how to-scale their every figure was with one another (excluding K:SI to the rest). I know there should be a price increase if they were going to increase the size now, but maybe they could covered it up with the re-release (ice blast Shimo and transluscent ice blast Shimo) and make those two a bit pricier (maybe $65-70). I checked Shimo's size on quadrupedal stance, it suppsoed to be 17-ish cm in Hiya's scale (1:666,6) being the real quadrupedal height at 114,3 m. Granted quadrupedal stance is still a bit relative, with how high or low her neck and arms are, but if the default quadrupedal stance refered to is the same, then yes Hiya Toys Shimo is a bit smaller. With SHMA, they're going to get burned at the stake if they decrease the size now, so better off just keeping a close eye on dem QC.
Edit: Never mind. I misremembered the height. My memory screwed me and I ended up remembering G14 height and not Shimo. Yea, Shimo is 17 cm, which I'm sorry, Kyle, but no it is not smaller. It is in fact to-scale. At least with what is her size is said to be, 114,3 m or 375 ft
Official stats on height aren't always followed in the movies, especially during action sequences. For example, in GvK they inflate Kong's "official" height by ~80% next to the Bank of China tower. The stats around the quadruped stance might indeed make proper figure scaling tricky, though.

It will sell because SHMA already has a name on the market and many people buy products not because of the quality of the product but purely because of the brand no matter if they are getting an inferior product.
Reminds me of the guy that was selling me a car. He told me how his customers were going for a 4 or 5 years old Audi for a certain price when he was showing them newer Skodas for the same price or less but had way more extras, a segment above, the Skoda was better equipped with more recent tech since Audi felt no need to improve due to doing well in the market so the newer comparable Audi was below the Skoda in equipment and tech and best of all they are for all purposes the same car as Skoda and Audi belong to the VW group so they share the same engines, tech and chassis. Yet people still went for the Audi.

Locking the kong fist behind shimo is enough to prevent me buying Kong, Shimo, or evolved Godzilla from monsterarts. If they want to continue this kind of stupidity, while also putting out bad paint apps on not quite accurate figures while having extremely tough competition in the form of hiya, I will simply support the competition. I never bought neca because, while good, they werent quite up to par with shma. Hiya has it over shma now, its near impossible to justify shma now.

TAS talks about sending feedback but he never acknowledges that the MV is 10 YEARS OLD. We haven't gotten a single film accurate release in 10 years and theres been A LOT of reviews and people complaining in a constructive way. Steven was one of the many until he ran out of patience.
And on top of not listening to anyone now they are locking accessories.

I don't see how my personal opinion matters with this information, but to say that I don't acknowledge that any of these are 1:1 with what's seen on screen is quite a take. Anyone with eyes can see that, and I'm not blind. The MV line is far from perfect. 👍

@ParrotsAccount its not screen accurate at all. Face is a little different and Evo Godzilla is not that green, or even at all green. It just a good-looking figure. Too bad the quality looks to be only the sculpt and paint job. Sucks that the damn thing can't stand on its own. I seen the picture of it having to be glued down and it couldn't even hold a pose more than a week. Looks like he's trying to take a radioactive poo. Also it is the prototype, and in most case with Tamashi Nations, the final product is always worst and has bad quality control.
Trust me, there will be many people who buy this overpriced figure

(3:59) I think the scale looks fine compared to the other figures. From what I remember in the movie I think she was that size (especially next to Kong at the end of the film). Plus we gotta wait and see how it's going to look next to Skar King as well. 📏🦎🦍
(11:03) I think its gonna sell well regardless of what some people think about the figure. If people can fork over 200 plus dollars for an S.h. MonsterArts Biollante, Destoryah, or any version of King Ghidorah then it wouldn't surprise me if they would do the same for the Shimo figure too. 💳🤑💸
