For that reason, we want to show you how to turn a full wig into your very own custom Top Piece. It's very simple and the result is amazing!! We will show you exactly what to cut, how to sew the metal clips in, and everything else you need to know.. Watch and see :)
I had to pause halfway through clip demo portion, to tell you I LOVE YOU!! I have so many nice wigs that are squashed in a plastic bag to use for cosplay bc I got disgusted at how thick and heavy they are on my small head!! After finishing the video, and liking it, of course, I'm running upstairs to play with my wigs! And make something beautiful and functional for me to wear!! Thank youuuuuuu! ❤️

I followed your instructions on how to make a topper out of a wig. THANK YOU! A wig is just too hot, even though the ones I have purchased are considered "cooler" to wear. I have made myself 4 toppers and switch them out! Am so glad I saw this demo on how to make this!!! It's much more comfortable for me.

What an AWESOME idea!! I absolutely LOVE my Top piece, but also adore the wigs you offer. Now I know I can create a Top out of any of your wigs (and I've been sewing for 50 years).
Another TIP: Add more clips to your Top pieces, so that you can alternate which clips you use, giving your hair and scalp a rest (not using the same section of hair to anchor your Top every day).

You just saved my holidays this year! I bought my first ever wig for quite a bit of money. I researched it for hours before I bought it. I was so excited to receive it! Then, my bubble was burst! It was not at all what I had seen on any wig review video!!! It was small and the hair density was super low. UGH I was all set to return it and then I watched your video! So happy you made such a great video! I only purchased a wig once & found out afterwards that my head is too big for it. I purchased & sewed these holders but it wasn't comfortable so it's been in a drawer & stayed there. I had no idea I could cut the thing thereby making it bigger as a topper and cut to suit my whims. I'm baaaack - to getting more wigs! Generous teacher you are. Oh, and your rings are awesome!

I just used this technique with a less expensive wig I'd bought. I wanted to make it into hairpiece. I cut it down, attached a claw clip and it worked great. I clip it in the top of my head and pinned the bunched up excess hair around it. It worked so well, thanks for this tutorial. I was a hairstylist for 33 years, so it was fairly easy, but I think anyone could do this...

Oh Yay! I had bought an inexpensive wig several years ago. Loved the style but it was too big and toooo hot here in AZ. So I just stuck with toppers. Following your instructions, I turned it into a topper keeping the original style. THANKS for the HOW TO video. Now I can change my style a little. I've been wearing the New Addition topper from Rene of Paris since that crown piece is larger than most toppers. I now need a tad bit more coverage so I know there is help for me now by buying inexpensive wigs and turning them into toppers.

What is the best way to safely curl this piece?

But after watching your video now I will make them all toppers some medium and most short toppers. The bottom of my hair I choose to keep cut close tapered And I keep about 1 in of my own hair on the top to attach my clip on bangs and topper. Thank you sooo much, sister. Thank you for this really clear tutorial. I have several wigs that I haven't worn for a while as I find them a bit hot on my head. This is wonderful and I am excited to do this. I recently started really getting thinned out hair- more than normal - which happens every fall. I cant stand the whole wig thing - to heavy on my head and too itchy. Toppers WORK with little to no itch and they're SO LIGHT! But....toppers are limited to only a few styles.

I love this video, do I need to somehow reenforce the edge where I cut off the weft? How does it hold up?
Hi Debbie, Rochelle here! It won't fray where you cut it off, but I do like to dab a little bit of "Fray Check", available at your local fabric store. It will stop any fray. Honestly, I rarely use anything where I cut. It will be a clean cut. Thanks for watching!!

Hi Marina, Thank you for your suggestion. While you can trim the length of a wig we suggest trying to find a wig close to the length you actually want. We suggest finding a hairstylist that is experienced in cutting or altering wigs for removing length. However, if you choose to do it yourself, you would use the same technique as for trimming the bangs. You wouldn't want to cut straight across as blunt ends may flip or behave in an unwelcome way. I hope this is helpful. :)
