Geoff is very mindful of the captions because of his wife Kathy's hearing loss. The BTS video is worth being a patron to see how he does all we get to enjoy.
That is so fair, thank you for pointing that out. Yes, I hope my subscribers send much love his way. The whole reason why I react to his amazing videos!
Misty Mountains has been my favorite for a long time. I find the pacing and the deep bass very soothing . Then he came out with I See Fire with each of the dwarves really getting to show off their own range. This combines the best of both in my opinion. It’s got that slow pacing where you can really appreciate that deep voice, but each of the dwarves get to sing a bit as well. And those harmonies! Delicious! You’re the only person I’ve heard so far that said it reminded him of you of Ghost Riders. It’s the first thing I thought of as they slowly came onto the screen. I’m always surprised at how different he looks with the various hairpieces and beards. But as Gimli he looks completely different. Part of it is his posturing, but when he’s looking around his eyes are fierce and doesn’t even look like Geoff. He is really channeling his John Rhys-Davies here
He does, he was fierce, he left Geoff behind for that. A perfect Gimli. What an amazing job. Then again, he was a fellow Ghostbuster at Universal Studios Florida.
Fili, Thorin, Gimli, Kili, and Bofur. Geoff had to film them based on how much facial hair had to attach. It was Kathy's idea for Gimli to be featured. She wasn't sure he would wear the false nose, too, but he "went all in!" I loved seeing Geoff build the tomb in his garage in the BTS video!
@@ESClone27 The filming was done at Pattycake (Layne and Tony's production studio). Geoff constructed the Balin's tomb prop in his garage. He and Kathy loaded into their vehicle to take it to Pattycake in the BTS. Geoff was supposed to film this in July, but Pattycake still had the "forest" up (that VoicePlay took advantage of to film "Classical Chaos") for a couple of months longer then Pattycake had originally planned; which meant that Geoff and Kathy had to wait to film "Song of Durin" until after the forest was gone. It would be cool if they kept the prop for their yard for Halloween.
I've never seen any of the LOTR/Hobbit movies as I'm not a fan of sad but I love Geoff's dwarf trilogy. I find them very soothing. I agree with you that I think we'll continue to hear more of Geoff's upper range. I think his Patrons & fans have finally convinced him that we enjoy hearing those beautiful upper registers just as much, if not more in some cases, as his deep bass. I have to thank you for not only your wonderful reaction to the video but you gave me a great laugh with your "bunny trail" comment and I totally lost it at the "my brain just took a vacation without me, hope it comes back with pizza" comment. I had to stop the video I was laughing so hard. Definitely going to remember that for future use! Also, due to Kathy's hearing loss, Geoff always appreciates it when people use the close captioning in any of his or VP's reactions.
That is awesome, glad I was able to give you a good laugh! The world needs more laughter now than ever before. Not sure how the CC was on, but I will indeed be sure when I do his works in the future.
Hmm, I like your prediction that Geoff will be producing music that shows off more of his upper registers. It would open up so many more avenues for him. Thanks for your reaction
I love, love, love Geoff's arrangement, vocals, and creative direction for his "Song of Durin" from "The Fellowship of the Ring" (Book 2). Kathy too was very involved in the creative direction for this one (see the video description). It's just beautiful. Thanks for this speedy reaction.
The song is actually from the Lord of the Rings. It's sung by Gimli while in Moria. I don't know if it's been kept in the movies though, I kinda watched them but I mostly did NOT like them, and stuck with the books. Anyway, the first Dwarf in order of appearance here seems to be inspired by Gimli, which gives some credit to the LotR origin of the song. I checked my copy of the book and found the song easily. I think Geoff did a WONDERFUL job with this song, and with the other from the Middle Earth's world. And, as a HUGE Tolkien fan, I'd prefer to have HIS versions over the ones in the movies, big time ❤. Here are the original lyrics from the book: “The world was young, the mountains green, No stain yet on the Moon was seen, No words were laid on stream or stone When Durin woke and walked alone. He named the nameless hills and dells; He drank from yet untasted wells; He stooped and looked in Mirrormere, And saw a crown of stars appear, As gems upon a silver thread, Above the shadow of his head. The world was fair, the mountains tall, In Elder Days before the fall Of mighty kings in Nargothrond And Gondolin, who now beyond The Western Seas have passed away: The world was fair in Durin’s Day. A king he was on carven throne In many-pillared halls of stone With golden roof and silver floor, And runes of power upon the door. The light of sun and star and moon In shining lamps of crystal hewn Undimmed by cloud or shade of night There shone for ever fair and bright. There hammer on the anvil smote, There chisel clove, and graver wrote; There forged was blade, and bound was hilt; The delver mined, the mason built. There beryl, pearl, and opal pale, And metal wrought like fishes’ mail, Buckler and corslet, axe and sword, And shining spears were laid in hoard. Unwearied then were Durin’s folk; Beneath the mountains music woke: The harpers harped, the minstrels sang, And at the gates the trumpets rang. The world is grey, the mountains old, The forge’s fire is ashen-cold; No harp is wrung, no hammer falls: The darkness dwells in Durin’s halls; The shadow lies upon his tomb In Moria, in Khazad-dûm. But still the sunken stars appear In dark and windless Mirrormere; There lies his crown in water deep, Till Durin wakes again from sleep.” As you can see, the reference to fishes' mail is there already. And I just LOVE that Geoff showed such respect to the original text, and to the mood it conveys, and the context it's sung. This one touched me really deeply. Well, all three did. Tolkien's world does, every time. 🙂 See you next time!
Yes, you should watch Geoff and VoicePlay videos with captions on. He often puts funny stuff in the text because of Kathy's hearing loss. Also, watch until the Patreon list scrolls as there often is another bit at the very end.
Ok, now I know, and will very much have to do that. I am so curious as to what he might do. I know they are married already, but can you imagine him sneaking the question in again to see if she is paying attention. LOL
Geoff has hinted at a possible fourth song in this series. :)
I think he just needs to cover enough songs from the Tolkien universe to offer us another CD, one full of them...would make me joyous!
Ok, that would be amazing.
Can you imagine? That would totally rock!
Geoff's ability to convey emotion with power and restraint at the same time - amazing. He is definitely phenomenal!
I would love to share a meal with him and just have a talk with him. I believe it would be a great conversation.

He is wearing a prosthetic nose as Gimli! Kathy wasn't sure Geoff would wear it, but he said he was "all in" for it!

That was his garage?! Nani!? LOL that is amazing, best neighbor ever! He is set for Halloween for the next 10 years.

Yes, I especially appreciate how restrained this one is; and, everything about it is exceptional

You are welcome! He and his wife are a force to be reconned with. They are an amazing power team when it comes to whatever they put their minds to.

The movies were good but would have needed another 6 to even come close to the books. I was not happy they totally skipped Tom Bombadil.
@@ESClone27 Me neither, and there are PLENTY of other changes I didn't like at all. 🙄🙂
