    How easy would it be for a paralegal from one field of law to obtain a job in a different field? Is this common or not recommended?

    • @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray
      @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray  2 місяці тому

      Changing from one area of law to another is common, but whether or not it is recommended is fluid - every situation is different. Switching areas of law can be challenging, and it truly depends on the areas of law. I mean, if you're a Bankruptcy Paralegal trying to move to Trademark & IP, those two areas of law couldn't be further apart and thus, breaking into the new area would be difficult due to the lack of procedural knowledge. However, if a Paralegal wants to move from Workers' Compensation to Personal Injury, while those areas are different, they are similar enough that movement from one area to the other wouldn't be too difficult. If you want to move into a new area of law, I recommend consuming everything you can about that new area of law first - forms, procedures, etc. Start networking and speaking with people in the area you want to switch to. Good luck and thank you for watching!

    Thanks a ton! This is so helpful :)! I have a quick question. I'm a 25-year old looking to improve his typing speed. All my life, I've used the pecking method (two index fingers). My current WPM is between 60-65. I really want to push to at least 70 WPM. How can I do it? Is it possible to learn touch typing at my age and see improvements within a reasonable period? Thanks!

    • @Kiyonce.Kartier
      @Kiyonce.Kartier 3 роки тому +2

      my typing speed is 72 WPM. Typing practice was a requirement in my elementary school before we could do anything in our computer lab class. The best way to increase your typing speed is by typing. Keep doing speed tests and aim for accuracy because mistakes can pull your WPM down. Try to type out as much stuff as you can (I would type out exam study guides a lot in HS and college). Make sure you're practicing on the type of computer that you're most likely to use at work too. (ex. I have a MAC and the keyboard dimensions are different than the Windows computers I've always had to use at work so it took some adjusting).

    I'm about to start a paralegal program, I can't afford law school do to my current situation, I know many people say Its possible if I borrow money, get loans, FAFSA, but I don't qualify for any of those options. I'm also a guy, my question for you is. Do male paralegals have the same chances female paralegals do when finding a job? Everywhere I go when doing my research I see female paralegals most of the time.
    I have a AAS on surgical technology, but I always wanted to be a lawyer. I just don't want to put the effort of going back to school and have issues finding a good opportunity when it comes to jobs.
    Hope you can answer.
    Thank you

    I thought a paralegal was General service for whoever needed it. I realize one can be a part of the firm as "their" paralegal therefore following their rules and such but are they not separate? Are there rules of ethics? Can't a private, non-bar, individual hire a paralegal for assistance? Please help me understand this.

    • @laurajane4806
      @laurajane4806 3 роки тому +1

      The paralegal has studied (and/or gained experience in) administrative functions. There is a lot of document production in litigation, for example. When a paralegal drafts pleadings, etc. the lawyer he/she works under is in the court's eyes supervising the work of the paralegal. Paralegals aren't allowed to sign legal pleadings, etc. because they are not members of the Bar. Yes, there are people who hire paralegals to help them but paralegals are not lawyers and ethically barred from giving legal advice. They are hired to work "processes" that support the lawyer's case activity.
