Dennis, it’s never too early for a young man to learn about romance, which I think goes hand in hand with respect for women. I predict he’ll be a favorite by High School. Geoff said his vision for this song was ‘a grizzly bear singing a lullaby.’ And as much as I like it when he sings requests from patrons, my most favorite are usually the songs he chose because they are special to him. I hope you and all your family have a very Happy New Year!
Thanks, Dennis and Caleb, for your reaction. A bit of history: this was a World War II song; the singer is a soldier going off to war and looking forward to coming home: "Till then, when all the world will be free, please wait for me." And, recognizing the risk, he adds: "I know every gain must have a loss, so pray that our loss is nothing but time." Geoff really honors the message, and the original Mills Brothers version.
the song was originally released before the end of WW2, a soldier headed to war and leaving his love behind... 'we'll pray that our loss is nothing but time'
So happy to see how quick you are to posting this. My ADHD was making me very impatient. I love myself a Mr Humble McBassypants cover. YOU MENTIONED THE CLONES!!!!!!! The discord (not affiliated with Geoff but it’s for the patrons by the patrons) thinks the Middle is Jeff, Left is Jeoph, and Right is Goff. We’re starting to think that they have traits. I myself noticed that Goff is left handed. GRiTS had one of the clones also left handed. Anyways, love your guys’ reactions! Til the next one. 🙂🖤
I like how Geoff appears to be looking at Kathy off-screen. Also love the really soft timbre of his voice like a rumbling purr of a satisfied kitty. Ikayh, I'm so sorry, I didn't realize that he is the dragon and not the kitty purring. You are so right!
Geoff said at one point that this could be a good alternative to Auld Lang Syne for New Year, he has also called it a lullaby. Whatever it is, it's beautiful.
To put it into more context, this was written in 1944 and was meant to be a soldier writing to his sweetheart. Also, in the Patreon release, the trio stays after Geoff is led off into the black and white world, looking at the empty piano and nodding/smiling gently.
Dragon breath? Growl? Geoff said his approach was "a grizzly bear singing a lullaby." Whatever it is, I love his voice in this. He slowed the tempo of the original and made it more poignant. Love the happy ending. Clearly she didn't want to wait any longer.
As a bass with a similar chest range to Geoff...honestly I don't know. The closest I can get is extremely breathy chest voice, borderline fry. But his tone is less raspy than that. Either he's extremely special down there (definitely a possibility...and range-wise, nothin dirty), or he's using a special technique. Either way, very beautiful. Low and raspy, yet smooth and...fitting. It doesn't feel like showing off, like his songs often do.
You know that Kathy passes Geoff that note. What a flirt the way he looks and smiles at Kathy. Then she steals him away at the end.
I’m always encouraged by the way they look at each other. I love it when people manage to stay in love over the long term.
I completely agree with you! That is a look that is shared by two people who genuinely love each other

He's like a baby made by a grizzly bear and an angel.
Grizzly bear singing a lullaby. Sweet.
The song is meant as a love letter from a soldier to his sweetheart.

This may be from the '40s but it hasn't lost any of its romance. I love the looks he's giving Kathy off camera--so romantic.

Dennis, great reaction, I appreciate your son's perspective! Geoff said no one had ever asked him to do this one, but he wanted to. do it.

My favorite one yet. He’s a crooner.
This song is about a soldier asking his love to wait for him. And, as a military wife, I tear up everytime I hear it.
I used to be a baritone in my early years. But as I have gotten older, I am a bass and can hit notes like this. I miss being a baritone though.
That there is a dragon purring.
Great reaction, guys!! You’re right-this is a perfect New Year’s Eve song!
A very Happy New Year to the whole King family!!
Thank you so much for another great reaction to Geoff. We can always count on you to jump on a new Geoff & Voice Play cover.
This was written from the point of view of a soldier going off to WW2 and hoping his lady would wait for him to come home.

@@darrelking7481 Thanks for catching the typo for me. Stupid tremoring fingers of mine LOL I corrected it.
Great reaction guys. This is an absolutely beautiful song. Especially Geoff singing it.

I like variety, and it's clear that Geoff does as well.
The clones names are Jeff Jeoph Goff and Daryl. We met Daryl in Ghost Riders in the Sky.
