Flint is a great example for how these two lines of figures could/should have been implemented. New take/design in Classified and Retro gets a more ‘85 toy accurate version.
Of course, hindsight is always 20/20 and did they have any idea they would be doing Retro figures from the start? My guess is no, probably not.
But things get confusing for me when they release a near perfect match for the original figure in the main line. If the Retro series is going to still get treated as an afterthought, then why not just keep everything under the Classified umbrella?

Any chance of a V.2 retro Snake Eyes?
You’ve got to think so. The most popular version of the most popular character, yep, it’s getting made. We haven’t had a Snake Eyes lately. I’d almost put money down that he’ll be in the next wave of Retro or two. That’s my guess. Thanks for watching and commenting!

The snow serpent and the eel haven’t been released yet, so there’s still hope for them. but the others, for sure, were not easy to find. My preorder for the CG was even cancelled.

To me it’s a cash grab by hasbro, they are making the classified resemble the retro a lot. I don’t know I’m thinking I will just cherry pick who I want instead of trying to be a completion collector on them. And that’s saying something because I had nearly every figure from the original line. It’s just really annoying to see a great line not being used to the fullest potential.
@@scottyphillips7799 I understand the reasons for mold reuse and for GI Joe, it has always been and always will be a thing.
While I wasn’t necessarily crazy about all of the Operation Blackout designs, it was at least new designs. In my opinion, fan fallout lead to them seemingly rebooting the mainline into nearly “1 to 1” upscale of the original figures.
I agree with you about the wasted potential. Imagine 2 (at least) fully supported lines, one, with updated designs and the other being the upscaled 6” versions of the old figures. It would, in theory, scratch everyone’s itch.
Now, Hasbro will always be after that extra buck, but that’s kind of their job. The fact that we can’t just buy a cobra trooper 3 pack off Pulse, in my opinion, tells me they may need to try a different tact.
That being said, I’m waiting with great interest to see how dr mindbender and the viper differ from their mainline versions.
