Earlier this past week, I went out and shot a video only to get the scans back and see that all my photos were awful. So, I went out for a second night in search of redemption, and for the most part, succeeded. Let me know what y'all thought of the photos and I hope you enjoy the video.

6:12 is the start to a horror movie.
Car passes and then backs up. Film photographer gets slashed and hanged with a cable release. The Portra Psychopath.
Dude you are way too onto something here 😂
“Hanged with a cable release” sent me...
I literally blew air trough my nose fiercely
The Portra Psychopath, in 3D
THAT is a slasher film we all need to see
We definitely need more youtubers to use jazz music in their videos . . . This is such a vibe 🥴
Classical jazz just hits different...
1. Love seeing that you’ve posted a new video.
2. I’ve said this before but the music choice really makes your videos and photos feel more like an experience (if that makes sense).
3. PLEASE wear reflective gear if you’re going to stand in the road at night. Lol that made me so scared 😪
Haha thanks Jonisha! I do need to invest in a safety vest...
@@BraeHunziker there should be already one in your car
That shot through the window... that’s somethin special.
Really stoked on that one! Framing worked out quite nicely.
Man, what great photos! I just shot some CineStill 800T and only had 6 frames turn out. I still have a lot of learning to do lol
Always room for improvement! Stick with it.
This video was great. The best and worst part about shooting film is getting scans back. Getting back shots you don't like is such a bummer but when the anticipation is met with even just a couple of "keepers" it's what makes you come back for more.
This is kind magical because our eyes can't see all that beauty at night, but camera can. It's wonderful! Thank you very much!
I just picked up a Pentax 67...been binging on videos to learn as much as possible about this amazing camera. I enjoyed your walk-through but I was a bit surprised to hear that you are sending off your film for development and scanning. It is so easy and fun to develop and scan your own film/negatives...you should work this in to your process.
Gotta say, I'm always mesmerized by your night pictures and by how crisp and rich they are. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Marco!
This is a fantastic piece, with the music, the edits, the footage. I love how well you captured the essence of night photography...
Gonna hope to do an episode like this soon. You've inspired me!
That’s awesome! Thanks for the feedback!
It feels like Christmas already while watching this video.
Haha love it, can’t wait to shoot this winter.
Love the vibe of your video - jazz music defenitively adds some smoothness
can never go wrong with some good ol jazz
Hey Brae. Outstanding stuff champion. My favourite image is your first image, Ice Box!
Thanks Aristo! Love that one as well.
Discovered your channel few months back and I must say, I didn't regret subscribing. Continue the great work! I can feel your love for taking photographs, it really shows in your shots.
This night series is really something else. It's surreal how the artificial light source affects the shot like its breathing life into the scene. Keep up the great work (I mean keep doing what makes you happy!)
Thank you! Nighttime light is really incredible. Amazing how much it affects the feel of an image.
Nice video Brae and some awesome shots. I especially liked this video because it's in and around my home town! Know the convenience store very well.
Oh no way haha that’s awesome! Cheers!
Honestly you are my favourite film photography youtuber, the music, the photos, the charm... thank you Brae!
Wow, thank you for the kind comment Martim! Cheers!
Absolutely loved it Bro. The Style with you moving in the Frame and Talking and shooting is so great. I will get this micro for our vlogs to. Best wishes from Switzerland
Roman
Thank you Roman!
Dude, this pictures are pure art. I could stare at them for hours!
Wow, thank you so much!
Just watched your feature on Birks’ channel. You’ve come a long way in the last few months and I’ve enjoyed watching you evolve as an artist, as a person. I enjoy your channel greatly.
Yeah!
Bryan Birks Bryan-great job on the video. Artfully edited and presented.
Thank you very much 🤝
Formidable, merci pour ton travail !
To say that i’m vibing to this video (on a hot Sunday night), would be an understatement. Now I’m heading out tomorrow night for sure.
Love it! Thank you Joep. Feels good finally knowing how to pronounce your name as well 🤣
Hahaha 😂 Appreciate it man!!!
Those are some dope shots! Those streets remind me down the block from where I live with street lights and fogs coming in!
Thanks Marc!
Pure excellence.
I could get lost in that last pic...
Thank you Lori!
I really love your photo dude and also the videos and i hope your channel goes big,i really do. 😊😊😊😊
Hope to see more in the future .
Stay safe ✌️
Love the wait to wind idea...Thanks!!!
Man you nailed it! That last shot is award worthy. Kinda keen to see the roll from the previous night TBH.
Haha well thank you! There were a couple decent ones, but I was experimenting with shooting in the woods with a very bright flashlight and it just did not work out.
Brae Hunziker fair enough
Saw the Purdy on ramp to Hwy 16 and was thinking "Brea is going to back track a couple hundred yards and shot my building?" Making next time. Nice to see all the local stuff you find around here; keep it up.
Hahaha a familiar sight indeed 😆
brae, im really enamored with the color tones you got from the photo at the 7 minute mark! the mixture of pink from the sky and the yellow cast on the house is so complimentary! good stuff!
Thank you Avery!
Nice work man and I loved the tempo of the video. The shots of the gas store are my favourite and the story behind them is a nice touch.
Thank you for the feedback Stephen 🤝
Very nice dude! I love everything about this video, you got some great shots there!
Thanks!
Really good vibes in this video dude! Great images, smooth jazz. It’s heaven!
Thank you Sam!
Very cool images. I really like the Gas Station and the shot in the store. Very cool classic gas station. So cool seeing someone shooting film. I have the 67 and a Hasselblad. I still shoot the beloved film. Great video. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Tim! Envious of your hasselblad haha. Cheers!
I love the vibe that you put into these nighttime videos. Congrats, mate!
Thank you Diogo!
Brae loved the opening photos of the little hometown variety store, shooting film at night is a challenge, and to borrow a baseball term - you stepped up to the plate and hit some great shots. Also I think the roadside shots were exceptional. Be well, stay safe, Peace.
Thank you very much Clarhett. Love the feedback. Hope all is well 🤝
Those highway photos are crispy man!
Thanks Michael!
I can only imagine what the photos from your previous night's shoot looked like (I'll take your word for them not being good), but these are absolute bangers. If you goal was to redeem yourself, oh boy did you do that and then some. great work man
Haha trust me they were nothing special, tried shooting in a pitch black forest with a flashlight as my only light source... But thank you very much for the kind feedback!
Whoa, you have smoke all the way up there?! Talk about marking a point in time. Here in Nor CA you can’t even stay outdoors more than a few minutes this week. I really like that last photo, too.
Yeah it has been rolling in very heavily the last 3 days or so, should be clearing up soon hopefully. Thanks Bob! Stay safe out there...
That empty highway pic just hit different and plus the soda one at the gas station sheesh
Thanks Michael!
Sick sick sick ass photos man! You kill it in every shot. Keep inspiring:)
Thanks Danielle!
Great video again, really like the shots the full gas station one works for me, I like it and you have a connection with it. Great channel love the info on using the reciprocity app as well and metering but even a little more in depth would be cool. Keep up the great work. Thanks
Hopefully doing a more in depth video soon! Thanks 🤘🏻
I already know the photos are gonna be good! 😍🙌🏽
All these photos are incredible! You're the man!
Thanks Matthias!
That gas station window picture toughhhhhh
Appreciate it Josh 👊🏻
Excellent images just came from the Instagram live I really love the mysteriousness of the final Image for sure❤️
Thank you for supporting 🤝
Brae Hunziker no problem you’re certainly under rated for sure
Awesome man! I have to get more confidence pulling off to the side of the freeway. In NJ the drivers are crazy so I’ll definitely have to try to stay safe
Hahah definitely... this spot worked out because there was a huge amount of space to pull off compared to other areas of the freeway. An orange, reflective safety vest also would’ve been smart lol
Such nice atmosphere and shots, great work 😁
Thank you!
I like the on-ramp shot the most. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the feedback tony!
Loved the interior shot too man! also the one at 8:34 👌🏾
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
I really like the shot at 8:34. Has that feeling of "Pucker up, something is about to happen behind you!" Cool part is you have no idea what's about to happen.
I love this kind of feedback, so cool to hear what kind of feeling the image gives you. Appreciate your comment 🤝
Just keep up the good work. I enjoy the videos, and don't think an artist should have to justify why they shot an image. It's your creative flare, style, prerogative.... Just keep the videos coming because they are Brae Hunziker and not a copy of someone else.
Appreciate this!!
Sweet vid as always man. Last shot was my fave but they were all 🔥. Cheers!
Thank you Lynton! Probably my favorite as well. Hope all is well!
This is the best one yet
Thanks Salo!
Good stuff! I especially liked @8:34. The commitment to the B-Roll with the shot of your car driving away from the stop sign is hardcore! I'm curious how you knew that your previous night's images didn't turn out so quickly. Are you developing & scanning yourself at home, or do you have some kind of hook-up with 1 hour photo developing?
Thanks! Luckily my local lab is a same-day service. That’s virtually the only way I’m able to get these videos out in time each week 😅 unless I start dev + scanning at home (which I need to do)
great timing with this video! i just went out tuesday night to do my first ever nighttime shoot with my pentax 67. still waiting on the film to get sent back, but hoping for good results
Nice shots.. I'm sure by now you are way better but good job on these.
Appreciate it!
Great photos, I’m new to your channel and I’m liking your content :) cool stuff.
Thanks Jay!
Bro... these were some of your best in my opinion. This is a zine I'd buy honestly
Wow, thank you!
@@BraeHunziker Thank me by making the damn zine lol
your photos are so dope bro- wanna give you credit for shooting a video independently with all different types of shots and details while also photographing amazing images!
Thank you Nash! Can be difficult, but always worth it in the end!
This is really good photos, good job on that!
Thanks!
Loving the “Mister Rogers” vibe that the music had haha. Great photos too🤘
Haha thanks!! Glad you enjoyed.
Great video. I also liked the shot into the convenience store the most. Going into the Swiss alps tomorrow and will stay overnight on a mountain. Probably a good opportunity to get into some night photography with my RZ67. Which reciprocity app are you using. I am a total newb when it comes to night time photography on film. Any other important does or don’ts for beginners also welcome. :-)
Thanks Markus! That sounds like it will be a fantastic trip, enjoy! I use an app called reciprocity+ which is great. I am very much still learning when it comes to nighttime photography haha, but mirror up if your exposures are anywhere around the 1 second mark, try to avoid shooting extremely low lit scenes (hard to calculate exposures if you aren't using a digital camera), this leads me to say that if you can bring a digital camera with you to test the exposure settings - definitely do! Looking forward to seeing your images :)
@@BraeHunziker thanks Brae. Packing my stuff now. Shutter release cable with mirror up is in the bag. Good point. I don't have a digital camera with a display to bring with me. My Leica M-D has no display and the Panasonic S5 I ordered has not yet been released in Switzerland 😪 but looking forward to tonight in the mountains. If the results are usable I will share them :-)
7:20 the startrails bring such atmosphere to this picture 😄
Great video as always!
Thank you Rudolf!
All of them turned out amazing!
Thank you Tony!
Fantastic! I am using pentax DSLR(KP,K-1....).But Film is better!!
Thank you so much.
I really like your photos^^
that 1:40 shot came out great, loving the vibes of the video as well
Thank you Lew!
Love the house picture with the stars ✨
Thanks Kelly!
It's good practice to always be ready to record when out photographing. Dealing with overzealous security guards and cops is like a rite of passage for a photographer. Kinda like getting a lens mug as a gift or being asked to shoot distant relatives wedding for free.
Hahah you get it!!
Beautiful shots man! Also appreciate that you don’t use Lofi hiphop, this feels very relaxing :)
Haha gotta spice it up a bit!
wow man awesome stuff killed it on all of these!
Thanks!
The pic with the glowing house was my fav @7:21
Thanks Darvin!
ALL BANGERS
Haha thanks Joseph!
omg the last picture seems that is been taken from an aliens abduction movie Idk why it gives me that vibe xd, great pictures like always.
That’s what I was feeling as well! Thanks Alex!
Just mesmerizing... any chance to purchase a print of the last photo?
Thank you! Prints will be coming within the next couple of weeks hopefully. I’ll be keeping y’all updated. Appreciate the interest 🙏🏻
Outstanding
Thank you!
It's your art, shoot what the hell ya want! Enjoyed the video.
Agreed! Thanks James!
I absolutely love your night time photos, I want to try some out with my mamiya rb67- what tripod do you use ?
Thanks, you should definitely give it a go! Neewer carbon fiber.
That's it brae. you've inspired me. Im going out to shoot a youtube video tonight.
Yes Caleb!! I love to hear it, stoked to see.
Ridiculous video!! Pics are so good man how the heck! What app do you use for reciprocity failure??
Thank you! Reciprocity+
convenience store pic was so fire
Thank you James!
The digital ISO and film ISO are both the same standard. So if you take a photo with a digital camera you will get the best possible preview of your film photo // you must account the reciprocity yourself tho.
Hello! I was wondering what light meter app youre using?
Thanks. Realllllyyyyy love your videos! Binge watching rn!
Mylightmeter Pro!
Love your work man ☺️
Thank you Josh 👊🏻
The myth. The man. The legend.
Brother!! Hope you’re doing well 🤝
@@BraeHunziker you too my man. Busy figuring life out. 💪🏻💪🏻
Beautiful ✨ (so relaxing) what is your app to know time of reciprocity ?
thanks! reciprocity+
Soo good as always
Thank you!
Brae; I just found your channel recently, and your work is awesome. I shoot on the Mamiya RB67 and have been doing night photos recently but they aren't coming out as sharp as I'd like them any tips for that? Also you've inspired me to start making videos!
That’s awesome! It’s important to make sure you’re metering is accurate and for the sharpest results make sure you’re using an aperture around f/8 or f/11 if possible. Also if you’re exposure is anywhere from 1/15th to 4 seconds try to use mirror lockup as it can help reduce micro-jitters
Hey man, i bet you already answered this in some past video, but what app do you use for metering and reciprocity? Is that available on Android? Thanks, and great pictures!
Mylightmeter pro and reciprocity+, not sure if they’re available on Android
Great photos and the exposures are spot on. How do you overcome not feeling weird or looking weird being around an empty building or on the side of the road in the middle of the night taking photos? I always feel like someone's watching me and calling 911.
Haha yep, I had someone come up to me while filming and question me. Just be polite and know you’re doing nothing wrong. It’s a weird feeling but you get over it the more you do it.
Lovely! Portra 400: in camera 400 ISO too or you can change?
400 in camera as well!
Love your work! Which photo lab do you use?
Thanks! Speedy ePhoto
myLightMeter is such a clutch app for exposing
Brae wanting all the smoke with the gas station shot.
lmao
Great vid Brae! What are the apps you used?
Thanks! Mylightmeter pro and reciprocity+
Last picture is fire! Great music in the video - I'm so tired of stock background music people use.
Thank you! Can’t go wrong with some jazz!
Nice video. What lens were you running for these night shots.
Thanks! 105mm
❤ These as always.
Thank you Rico 🤝
Particularly like the last two, especially where you cropped into the second to last one. What’s the longest focal length you have for the Pentax?
Thanks! 105mm
I'm new to your channel so sorry if this has been answered, but do you use the reciprocity plus & the mylightmeter pro apps for all your shoots (both day time & night time)? I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to a light meter right now so curious if these work pretty well. Thanks!
Yep I do! Or the built in meter on my Pentax during the day 👍🏻
Brae Hunziker epic, thanks for getting back to me 🤘🏽 I actually grew up in Bremerton, WA & live in Portland now so stumbling across your channel was great, love to see so many local / close spots I’ve been to throughout childhood & adult years. Awesome videos :)
What light meter app do you use? These are so clean!
thanks! mylightmeter pro
Notification gang - hell yea, im excited!
Appreciate you!
