Nisonin Temple - Kyoto - 二尊院

Nisonin (Nisonin-in) temple is located just a short walk from Kyoto’s famous Arashiyama forest. Nisonin is a small Tendai-sect temple that was founded in 834 by Emperor Saga. Unfortunately, none of the original structure survived destruction during the quite violent Onin War (1467 ~ 1477). It was later rebuilt as it is today thanks to the support of the priest Honen.The temple is famous because it’s where the poet Teika (1162 ~ 1241) completed his famous collection of Haykunin-Isshuu or One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets.
Finally, people all across Japan and the world enjoy Nisonin temple during autumn thanks to its amazing maple tree approach that will turn red during the season.
