As a Designer and Mini Cooper SE owner, I am excited about the new generation. @absolutium we don't know the prices yet. I was thinking about OLED panel burning issues, too. Maybe they will have some sort of one-time free warranty replacement.
@@infj2177 I think what they meant is that displays like these are often cheaper to implement and design than proper analogue user interfaces: buttons, dials, gauges,.knobs, etc. And often, it comes at the expense of user experience because they are more difficult to navigate and use at a glance. Take for instance that the driver must now look to the center of the dashboard instead of directly in front in order to glance at the speedometer. Maybe a HUD is implemented to accommodate for this oversight, but what then of visibility and glare issues? It seems like a design decision informed by form-over-function or worse, cost-cutting. There is no obvious benefit to the driver by limiting the interface to the center dash. Personally, I could care less about the interior materials were it made of the softest of vegan leathers or carved from the rarest metals if I know that the experience of using it is subpar or if parsing information as I drive is compromised.
@WhatisaLee I agree. I will walk away from the new Mini if I can not see the speed, speed limit, and navigation right in front of me. What Tesla did with the single screen should be banned. It's simply not safe.
Using OLED for the main screen is a huge mistske. Within just a couple of years or maybe even less, itll generate screenburn then after a few years itll be so hard to find the same screen. I have to say though, OLED technology has gone a long way in the past decade. I don't agree with removing the gauge cluster from the steering column. The only reason Tesla gets away with the speedometer on the center display (something I'm also not a fan of) is because they relegated a significant portion close to the driver to indicate speed, so there's some argument to be made for it due to visually isolating the pertinent information. Having it in a small font and at the top of this display makes it feel lost in all the other graphics being shown and almost like your speed is an afterthought. They should reinstate the gauge cluster and simply make the center display infotainment, with the ability to bring in the old speedometer as the ONLY graphic as supplementary.

They spent 3 minutes saying they added a screen and LEDS in different ways while trying so hard to present it as if it hasn't been in almost every new car for the past couple years.
I'm very skeptical of the knitted dashboard of all things tbh, I can definitely see concerns regarding structural integrity and maybe even upkeep. Hopefully they really though things out
1) Will there be a scroller wheel to easily navigate menues 2) aux switches add ons for customer to add random things 3) physical buttons for easy settings shortcuts ( climate change ect ) 4) normal heads-up display system without the clunky motor 5) customizable speedometer 6) will this system added to the entire mini line up for both ev and petrol models ( jcw ) and more … 7) will you finally add a digital rear view mirror 8) remote start system ( integrated features and controls via key fob and mini app ) 9) driving assistant features ( autonomous - [ lane keep assist & switching lanes & ect , ) , self parking ( parallel & perpendicular)
Mesh is not hard to clean? Besides this, I like the minimalism. A bigger screen is really nice! As for the indication about fuel, and speed, would it still be visible from above the steering wheel or on the big circular screen? I prefer the former as the later is a bit dangerous for driving according to me and my experience. I saw the new design for the countryman,... it is terrible.
I am worried about no physical climate dials, but hope the touch screen is sensitive enough. Also the voice stuff most cars rarely works well enough to be used. I do hope it is improved. I will find out as I have put my name down to order it. I like Mini’s and wanted my next one to be an EV.
With all the new tech and possibilities, MINI seems to be unfortunately the only manufacturer that uses the full potential of its user interface. Every car has huge screens built in it, but nearly no one gives the user the possibilty to completely restyle the entire car with this center piece. Mini seems to have amazing designs, a clever use of different widgets and gives its driver the freedom to style his car in his very own way. Love it and I wish way more companies would actually allow that. Especially the UIs from other German manufacturers like VW and its brands but also Mercedes are batshit ugly and dated.
I have a mini cooper SE less than a year old and I want to know if there will be a major update to its infotainment system that brings it closer to that of the new one, thanks.
It’s dope i hope they can add a normal heads up display system without that clunky Motor unit , as well and a speedometer by the streaming wheel … for all other models ! Please add this to the new countrymen ( hopefully they add this with a jcw/gp countrymen with a quad exhaust system and higher power numbers ) cross my fingers And if they want to add a aux switch system for add ons
And how is this safe when the driver needs to turn to the right to see the display? And why the front passenger needs to be in reach of a car dash? Really? I was including a Mini on the list of my next car purchase, after this not anymore.

I'm very skeptical of the knitted dashboard of all things tbh, I can definitely see concerns regarding structural integrity and maybe even upkeep. Hopefully they really though things out
Bold decision to use OLED ❤ Hope burn in would not be a thing.
OLEDs always burnt in if you got stationary image.
Get ready to have your speed burned in!
@@riaz8783 😂
@@MrMannyhw have you heard about pixel shifting? It was a problem when OLED came out, not anymore
@@rowmaniax1998 some parts still burn in.
Just wow! This has to be one of the best pieces of marketing I've seen. The animations are so satisfying!
Actually the most cringe ever.
@@DavidBcc it's a bot. Don't waste your time, unfortunate reality of UA-cam comments.
1) Will there be a scroller wheel to easily navigate menues
2) aux switches add ons for customer to add random things
3) physical buttons for easy settings shortcuts ( climate change ect )
4) normal heads-up display system without the clunky motor
5) customizable speedometer
6) will this system added to the entire mini line up for both ev and petrol models ( jcw ) and more …
7) will you finally add a digital rear view mirror
8) remote start system ( integrated features and controls via key fob and mini app )
9) driving assistant features ( autonomous -
[ lane keep assist & switching lanes & ect , ) , self parking ( parallel & perpendicular)
I stopped reading at scroller wheels, that’s a decade old tech and where would you even put it
Atleast it has an "analog toggle bar".
That's a single step in the right direction.
Great that they add senior management experts like apple does
I thought the Mini was a car and not a media centre! Fewer distractions would be more beneficial for most drivers.
BMW’s legendary unreliability included!
I am msc embedded system engineer and i have experience in automotive. You should give it a bezel for simple up downs for every menu
Fresh UI and interior details.
I am worried about no physical climate dials, but hope the touch screen is sensitive enough. Also the voice stuff most cars rarely works well enough to be used. I do hope it is improved. I will find out as I have put my name down to order it. I like Mini’s and wanted my next one to be an EV.
OMG,it's amazing! It's like a future.
a bad one
With all the new tech and possibilities, MINI seems to be unfortunately the only manufacturer that uses the full potential of its user interface. Every car has huge screens built in it, but nearly no one gives the user the possibilty to completely restyle the entire car with this center piece. Mini seems to have amazing designs, a clever use of different widgets and gives its driver the freedom to style his car in his very own way. Love it and I wish way more companies would actually allow that. Especially the UIs from other German manufacturers like VW and its brands but also Mercedes are batshit ugly and dated.
Loving every bit of it… plus the cute doggie sound when you trigger with hey mini - so clever!
Very cool. I miss my 2015 Countryman S sometimes!
Love this change, well done
Big smart watch 👍👍👍
Brave to show this now. Many will hold off on purchasing until it's released in 2025?
Nice to see Mini going a bit more minimal. Previous "new" minis went way overboard with the circle theme.
This looks awesome
If the fluidity of the UI is nearly as good as it looks, this will certainly be interesting
R53 jcw Forever!
Please add this to the new countrymen ( hopefully they add this with a jcw/gp countrymen with a quad exhaust system and higher power numbers ) cross my fingers
And if they want to add a aux switch system for add ons
And how is this safe when the driver needs to turn to the right to see the display? And why the front passenger needs to be in reach of a car dash? Really? I was including a Mini on the list of my next car purchase, after this not anymore.
I really wish the gauge cluster was still where a gauge cluster should be instead of relocated to some bullshit position like Mini and Tesla are doing
I’ve never owned a mini, but have driven one. This new interactive operating system is pretty cool though!
Might have to get an E-MINI as my next vehicle!
