Thank you for the broadcast! About a month ago my daughters, born and raised in South Africa, were exploring Sofia taking very much the same routes. They loved the freedom of walking safely on their own and taking the public transport anywhere and any time they liked.
Thanks for the tour Alina. I love living in the Bulgarian mountains but I really should make more effort to spend some time in the cities too. Especially Sofia, the beautiful capital of my adopted homeland!
It's so fun to watch this as a Bulgarian, I have been following Alina since she did her original Bulgaria videos in 2020. It's funny to hear her try to pronounce Bulgarian words - depending on the word it can be almost incomprehensible because she reads it as if it's Russian. Hope she will learn some basic Bulgarian or at least basic phonetics so she knows how to pronounce stuff. Then Bulgarians will love you even more, though we already love you. ❤
Aw now, come on! I will say on my Bulgarian trip, I was traveling with a small group of Bulgarians. So I did get to hear a lot of Bulgarian spoken. Not that proud of my Bulgarian pronunciation. Now that you make this point, Americans and Canadians also have accented English. So I guess Bulgarians might speak RUSSIAN in a way that Russians know the speaker is not Russian. Fun.
Thanks Алина 🙂 I couldn't watch Live, due to I work weekend (well, I'm in Canada 😉) But I really enjoy it now. Sofia is my city and the place my kinds and grandkids are now... Can't wait your next videos 👍

Happy to see you happy , Alina. It looks like Bulgarian economy is not any better than Canada's. Based on the prices, bureaucracy, and salaries you have mentioned, are you convinced you made a good decision leaving Canada? But I think when all these immigration issues are resolved, Canada is still one of the best places to be in. Good thing for you is that, as a Canadian citizen, you can always go back.

I am Bulgarian, first of all I want to say, welcome. I am glad that you like our country. I also like it very much and I consider myself lucky to have been born here. We have extremely beautiful nature, a very rich history of ups and downs over many centuries and eras, a colorful culture.
Here’s some bureaucracy: Someone who is not a Bulgarian citizen tried to sell a property he inherited from a Bulgarian citizen. They told him he had to provide a tax id number for the sale process. The relevant government offices refused to give him a tax id number on the grounds he was neither a citizen nor he owned property in Bulgaria. For three days he travelled between two cities until he signed papers giving up his rights to the inheritance and authorizing someone else to continue trying to obtain that number because he had to return back to work.
I grew up in ne Saskatchewan and it's still my home base when not taking a look around. Can you give me some insight into what type of business you are involved with over there? Bulgaria is fortunate to have a Sask farm girl.
The Bulgarian Public Bureaucracy is another level is a Cast among the casts they genuinely hate & discriminate the general public & goes both ways! Sofians think Sofia is the very center in the world & the world is divided into Sofia & Province they call the rest non Sofian born residents atleast 3 generations - Provencial ppl.
I think Ukrainian is more similar to Polish language ? Also culturally Ukrainian are more similar to Poland ? That way they choose to live there ? I noticed when visited Poland last time !
About Bulagrian Immigration office employees not speaking English, how easy is to go through immigration process in respective office in Canada when someone speaks Bulgarian or Russian?
I am Bulgarian and I think that Sofia is a wrong choice of city to live in. You probably made a choice of city based on old information. In recent years, Burgas is the best city to live in Bulgaria. The advantages of Burgas over Sofia: -better infrastructure -better urban environment. -better public transport - warmer - there is a sea and a beach -better maintained parks. -significantly lower rental prices -near Istanbul The advantages of Sofia over Burgas: -access to more destinations from the airport.
And no international flights at all outside the summer season. She knows well to pick a city with international flights. After all she didn't pick Bulgaria because of the climate...
The only thing that disappoints me about eastern europe is the graffiti on the side of beautiful buildings. That really destroys the history of the countries. That would be great if they could prevent that but i loved just about everything else in eastern europe
Let's be honest, immigration office is not the most friendly nor efficient place in any country! You think immigration office in Canada, US or Uk is any happier/efficient place then Bulgaria? Do you think gov office in whatever country you go to will have people speaking your(whatever it is) language other then their official language? Spanish, German, Italian, Ukraine, Chinese, etc etc. When you move to whatever country, you adapt to that country, you don't complain why they don't do a better job understand your need! Alina, before you move out of Canada! what would you say when a migrant from Africa or Vietnamese complain to you why Canada gov or immigration office don't have employee that speak Swahili or Vietnamese?
that that bulgarians are slavic nation became recognized only recently after the massive dna test. Before they were treated by scientists as people with turkic blood
Alina, do you think it is possible to survive there with zero Bulgarian??? Do people speak English there? I wanna get out of here, I live in Toronto and taxes are insane, plus our carbon tax is coming with our crazy PM!
That’s good their immigration office is Bulgarian only. You want to move their ? Least you can do is learn the language. I’m a bit unsettled about the lack of English in my part of the USA.
I feel your pain re: immigration personnel, its the same mindset all over the Balkans. You would think that they would be “bending over backwards” to help fine up standing people like yourself get into their country. Lets face it you will only help the country/economy by moving into the country.

Do the local Bulgarians know you speak with accent ? In Bulgarian
She sounds russian when she reads cyrillic. Everyone can tell from a mile away she's foreign:)
3dt world country ...
I am Bulgarian and I think that Sofia is a wrong choice of city to live in. You probably made a choice of city based on old information. In recent years, Burgas is the best city to live in Bulgaria.
The advantages of Burgas over Sofia:
-better infrastructure
-better urban environment.
-better public transport
- warmer
- there is a sea and a beach
-better maintained parks.
-significantly lower rental prices
-near Istanbul
The advantages of Sofia over Burgas:
-access to more destinations from the airport.
Let me ask you a question. If a Bulgarian went to Canada, how many government department employees will speak to them in Bulgarian?
that that bulgarians are slavic nation became recognized only recently after the massive dna test. Before they were treated by scientists as people with turkic blood
Alina, do you think it is possible to survive there with zero Bulgarian???
Do people speak English there?
I wanna get out of here, I live in Toronto and taxes are insane, plus our carbon tax is coming with our crazy PM!
you can get quite far with English only, but you'll need to pay people or have friends to help you do your immigration paperwork, file your taxes etc.
Of course we speak English! The majority of young people do.
We speak english. The older people don't.
You can get away with it to most extent in the big cities such as Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and probably Burgas.
That’s good their immigration office is Bulgarian only. You want to move their ? Least you can do is learn the language. I’m a bit unsettled about the lack of English in my part of the USA.
For what it's worth, the immigration office and other similar services don't wanna deal with you even if you do speak Bulgarian...so there's that 😅
I feel your pain re: immigration personnel, its the same mindset all over the Balkans.
You would think that they would be “bending over backwards” to help fine up standing people like yourself get into their country. Lets face it you will only help the country/economy by moving into the country.
