Pascal Obispo is a singer who could sing the phone book, his vocals are always flawless. You really need to react to more of his music. He also wrote for many other artists.
Derek, you should read the lyrics. This is a song to be listened to, focused on the lyrics. It depicts all the stars he was fan of when he was young. The artist he admire the most being Polnaref, and by now he’s a great singer/composer as Polnaref was/is. One can also note that he can sing in high tones as well as him (listen carefully the end of the song).
*Dereck,*
The piano intro is a slightly modified version of *"Lettre à France"* by *Michel Polnareff,* a title he included in the lyrics a few minutes later and on which you reacted very positively some time ago.
He then does the same with *"Marylou"* you also greatly appreciated.
It thus includes many references to famous titles or artists, whether in the clip or the lyrics, such as; *AC/DC* (Thunderstruck), *David Bowie* (clown from "Ashes To Ashes" music video), *Freddy Mercury* ("I want to break free", "God save the Queen"), etc., all the musicians, but also the actors who inspired his career.
The artists have always marked influences; this is the theme of this song in response to the media who criticized him a lot at his beginnings, believing he borrowed too much from the musical and vocal style of Polnareff (the singer *Calogero* suffered the same remarks, but he was criticized for copying too much *Obispo,* 😅).
The media came to give him some credibility after he wrote big hits for other renowned artists; *Florent Pagny "Savoir Aimer,"* (Knowing how to love) *"Ma liberté de penser,"* (My freedom to think) but also *Johnny Hallyday "Ce que je sais"* (What I know) or *"Allumer le feu"* (Lighting the fire) in collaboration with *Zazie* for the lyrics, song to which you reacted.
He also composed the music for the musical *"Les dix commandements"* (The Ten Commandments) including the song *"L'envie d'Aimer"* (The desire to love) performed by *Daniel Lévi.* He also composed *"Zen"* for *Zazie, * and *"A woman like any other"* for *Patricia Kaas.*
Peace, folks, ☮🤗
Try more .. it's a great Singer with a lot of beautiful songs 😘😘 kisses from France
This song is for all the journalists who criticized Obispo doing the same music than Michel Polnareff ! I love it 🥰
This is a really good song and tribute to all the artists that inspired him and so many others.
Yes, it's a tribute. But Dereck does not like these types of songs, it's public knowledge guys :D
@@OptLab What he likes or not is one of the greatest mystery of mankind. To me, it seem very close to random. For instance he prefers François Valerie to Lio or Gotainer. Go figure! May be he prefers simplistic pop songs(french ”varietoche”) over pop songs with meaningful lyrics.
@@samueldevulder he likes songs with range from bass to treble. He does not like dry songs, it needs to have immersive soundstage. Pop Rock usually fails at that so it's hard to fill Obispo.
@@samueldevulder I knew he would not like Gotainer but that was an exception because I think it's a special song I think one must know to understand the 80's in France. And music creation as a whole. Le youki's melody is bland, as hell. The refrain is very dry.
Yes ! Listen obispo" tombé pour elle"
Another amazing French performer and composer to discover 👍🏻
il you like crying song with Pascal obispo ...
l'important c'est d'aimer ❤️
millésime
You need to dig more on obispo 's songs..so many hits to discover
I would consider, please provide a big hit of his with link

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Pascal Obispo. FYI, in the 90's, Pascal Obispo was one of the best composers of his generation after having released several successful albums and singles.
He worked with the greatest like Johnny Hallyday in 1998 to whom we owe his "come back" for "Allumer Le Feu" whose text is signed Zazie.
He also revived the career of a male singer Florent Pagny whose career was at half mast in the early 90s after his tumultuous relationship with Vanessa Paradis and his "war" with the media.
In 1997, he came back with the huge single "Savoir Aimer" (no.1 for 9 weeks) and the eponymous album with 1.8 million albums sold and certified diamond disc.
The song "Fan" was released on May 30, 2003 as the first single from his fifth studio album but also third LIVE album since it is actually a DOUBLE ALBUM (Studio/Live) which will be released a year later either on June 16, 2004 sold more than 400,000 copies.
The title will rank no.1 in the TOP 50 but also in Belgium in the Ultratop 50 Singles and no.15 in the Schweizer Hitparade in Switzerland.
The single was also released with ten different visuals featuring the different disguises from the clip.
It will be certified gold in France and Belgium for 300,000 singles sold, as well as a Victoire de la Musique for the French-speaking song of the year.
He pays homage to his idols in the clip like Queen's Freddie Mercury, Australian rock/metal band AC/DC, Kiss band, Elvis Presley, David Bowie, John Lennon and his wife Yoko.
For the actors/actresses, of course the very famous Marylin Monroe, Robert De Niro and James Bond 007.
Thanks for your amazing work our Frenchie American pal. 👍🇫🇷
He has a lot of much better songs ...but ok .... 😬😁 Go Pascal 🎉
I didn't know this song and I was surprised too..! He starts acting all tough though his voice is so soft, almost shy. That's funny.
Hello, you previously reacted to Pascal Obispo when he portrayed Vitoo with Fatal Bazooka in your video "Double Reaction Diams and Vitaa vs. Fatal Bazooka and Vitoo" ;)
Il ne l'a pas reconnu , c'est drôle !
You didn’t pick his best song… he has some great ones!
I thought it was about an obsessed fan who loves and follows his favourite artist like a psycho, but now I know the truth, is one of my favourite french songs of all time.
Goodness gracious, who's giving you these recommendations? There's a lot of songs and singers from the French 80s that you haven't explored yet. Lio and Pascal Obispo don't really fall in that category or in styles that you seem to like.
What about Telephone? Etienne Daho? More Veronique Sanson (she's got some excellent songs you have not yet explored)? I'm forgetting plenty of good singers/songs here. But not the last two. It's simply not the same level and not in the styles that you seem to prefer.
Yessssssss, my favourite french song 😍😍😍😍
All is life Obispo was fan of Michel Polnareff. He wrote that song it was for is idol, unfortunately Michel rejected him and even complained publicly about Pascal. Many of the first songs of Pascal sound like they were made by Michel.
To Dereck: in the clip, Robert de Niro is recognize with his mohawk hairstyle, like in the crazy cult movie "Taxi driver"
J'avais oublié cette chanson. J'adore
At Last you get to Pascal Obispo. He is an amazing artist and composer with many great songs
I agree with you about this singer
I think you're being a bit unfair to this song which is really beautifull. And his voice is outstanding. Please, listen to it several times and you could change your mind. Orherwise, you should listen to "Lucie" which is a masterpiece.
Thank for your react Dereck
Dereck ,OMG , you're kidding us ?
First time listening to this song as well. Not his best but lots of nice references: Michel Polnareff, Kiss, Freddy Mercury, AC-DC…
Right singer, wrong song, again!... Sorry Dereck
Definitely not his best song Dereck !!
Pascal Obispo is a great french singer songwriter who made a lot of hits, he also worked for many artists : Jean Jacques Goldman, Johnny Hallyday, Florent Pagny, Zazie, Patricia Kaas etc....
He created the musical "The ten commandments" and masterful song "L'envie d'aimer" sung by our deeply regretted Daniel Levi
And he's a big fan of Michel Polnareff
you should heart " d'un piano a l'autre " and " un ave maria" of Obsipo great one
Please review ANGGUN or THE CORRS!!!!! Help me guys;-)
you have to see his first hit on radio , so end eighties and beginning nineties time :) 🙌
Pascal a chanté beaucoup de chanson
Romantique et pop..
Please Derek, listen to Pascal Obispo song called ROSA. It's great.
you have to take hit seriously pascal Obispo is a fan of Polnaref and the piano at the beginning reminds us is a tribute to "letter à France" by Polnaref.
He shows us the large panel of his music taste by impersonating legends of music like Gene Simons, Angus Young, Marilyn Monroe, and Freddie Mercury.
It's not so much a tribute to the artists that he's portraying as it's a tribute to the fact of being a fan. Staying in your room for hours listening to your favourite artists, travelling to see them live, maybe hoping to meet them as well, etc.
Love your tee shirt
Yes, this song is serious
👍👏👏😍
You dont understand. Pascal is listing all the artists that inspiré him like musicien and singer. Hé respects them, they are why hé is himself today
dereck est devenu sourd ?????
Oui je comprends pas bien là...
Il aime pas trop les fanfarons. Avec Lio je crois qu'il a eu plus que sa dose.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Stupeflip - Stupeflip Vite
It is the representation of Polnareff, who appears seated at the piano, dressed in white. Pascal has a huge career behind him. He has been a prolific songwriter, making hits for his French-speaking colleagues.
Of the old Pascal themes, I suggest Assassine and a little later, Les Fleurs du Bien. Also Rosa, in homage to Rosa Parks. A little newer, La Pretention de rien. Greetings from Argentina!
You can also react to the new version of "Lettre à France" from Polnareff : ua-cam.com/video/BzA6mnM3dfg/v-deo.html
He's going to release a new album of 12 of his greatest songs on "piano-voice" version on November 18th called "Polnareff sings Polnareff" ❤⚓
Pascal Obispo is an Polnareff 's fan
A grower, no doubt
React to " lettre à France " Michel Polnareff :)
Il l'a déjà fait je crois
@@yamisimon3535 oui
Fine but not my fav from him, I would suggest these but not easy to find clean videos.
Traduction bro
still waiting for Arno, Arno,Arno,Arno instead of all this old fashioned singer
Michel Polnareff never appreciated this cover....and I agréé a bit with him
Sorry, but it was a bit ridiculous
I like obispo but this song not so much. It bring nothing
Article published in 2004...
In 2004, Michel Polnareff was violently torn with Pascal Obispo when the latter released the song Fan, which paid homage to him. A quarrel in which the interpreter of "Letter to France" would have left too many feathers according to Benjamin Biolay and Calogero. "Instead of shitting on Pascal Obispo's songs, he should have tried to make a good one with him. In the end, the guy started singing in front of the Sacré-Coeur and he ended up shopping in his tracksuit at "Whole Foods"
In this song, through all these stars as an example, Pascal was a fan of Polnareff and this one was badly tackled when it was a tribute song to his favorite star. Polnareff sucks. Obispo is a big heart who takes care of various charities and he is really a very invested person.
