I. K. Brunel rides locomotive "Invicta" from Canterbury to Whitstable, Kent

Brunel needed to prove his ground-breaking engineering to be practicable. There would be a gradient inside the pending Box Tunnel that some theorists predicted would cause trains to emerge at 120mph! IKB travelled up and down the C&W Railway studying gradients to present his facts to Parliament so that the Act would enable the line to be completed between London and Bristol.
