You’re not lucky...ANY song you picked up from them, it’s surely gonna blow your brains out and definitely you’ll burst into tears.....seriously, any song is better than any other song written (and performed) by any other nearly close to their style band around the world...they’re epic and the only reason they’re not popular as they should be, is the fact we come from an Spanish speaking country. Keep reacting to their songs, you’ll have loyal audience and the best time ever as a musician/composer and music lover...they simply get under your skin and you need to keep listening to their songs as you get hooked up with the way they make you feel...it’s a journey through emotions and intensity, I explored my soul with this band (among other Chilean great ones as Los Prisioneros, Victor Jara, Violeta Parra, Mon Laferte, Manuel Garcia, Ana Tijoux, Portavoz, Quique Neira and Gondwana, and Movimiento Original, Los Tres, Los Bunkers, and they were crucial back then and even now. Best of lucks with your channel and thanks for your video.
@@CriticalReactions Alturas de Machu Picchu is the name of the album, I highly recommend you "La poderosa muerte" (the powerful death) which is the opening track. This album is a musicalization of a serie of poems by Pablo Neruda, so the lyrics are very strong too.
This is the heart of Chile. I cant believe you react to "los jaivas" they have so many goods songs. Please listen more of their music 🙌 and if you are interest search the translation, the lirycs are so beautiful ( my english is not good, my apologies 😔)
Your English is actually really good. A couple of mistakes but you got your point across which is the most important part of communication. As for Los Jaivas, I've had quite a few people tell me I should keep getting into their work, that they are a fantastic band. I definitely think we'll see them on the channel again.
I'm so happy that you had reacted to this song in specific, because the most of the reactions are of the "la poderosa muerte" which is amazing as well, but this song it's my favorite because always makes me feel a little to much ... I can't make this so well, but the translation could be something like this; Contemplando en mi memoria Contemplating in my memory Hacia aquel lugar Towards that place En el horizonte de mi mente In the horizon of my mind Se ha escondido el sol The sun has hiddend Como una memoria que me llega Like a memory that comes to me De su corazón from his heart Ella no existe más She doesn’t exist anymore. Ella es una nube She is a cloud Que el viento conquistó That the wind conquered Suaves caricias Gentles caresses Tiernos desvelos Tender sleepless nights
Ella es una nube She is a cloud Que un beso ardiente derritió That a burning kiss melted" Thanks for this reaction
Thank you for the translation. It's certainly sad but has a little bit of nostalgic reminiscing as well -- sort of like a happy sadness. It adds so much to the music. I'll be taking another listen to this on my own time with this translation in mind.

Wow, today I discovered your channel, great reaction bro! Please react to more of Los Jaivas, I request you please "La Poderosa Muerte" (The Powerful Death) or "Bosques Virginales" (Virgin Forests), two songs with many psychedelic sounds or "Mambo de Machaguay" (Mambo of Machaguay) more folkloric. Greetings from Santiago, Chile. Pd: the original formation is Eduardo "Gato" (Cat) Alquinta (guitar), Gabriel Parra (drummer), Claudio Parra (piano/keyboard), Eduardo Parra (percussion/synth, etc) and Mario Mutis (bass). They play in his songs folkloric and natives instruments like Zampoña, Ocarina, Quena, Tarka, Trutruca, Trompe, Charango, etc.
Oh this was a super great surprise that I was not in the slightest way familiar. I feel like this fits right in with lots of other classic prog but I'm assuming the reason they don't have the recognition is due to the language, which is sad, and odd actually because there's lots of italian classic prog bands that were popular.
I agree that the language barrier sucks. It doesn't even just affect rock/metal -- there is tons of great music that remains undiscovered and buried simply because the lyrics aren't in English. I think the only genre that isn't as heavily affected by this is KPop and that's simply because there is a lot of money behind those groups that goes into global marketing.
I think it would be Tarka y Ocarina, La Poderosa Muerte is an increíble song for its instrumentation/lyrics based on the majesty of a Place like Machu Picchu, but i personally believe Tarka y Ocarina is by far everything that makes Los Jaivas be Los Jaivas.
The 6/8 feel comes from their folk influences, you can hear it in a lot of their songs. Also the lyrics, as with most prog music, are open to interpretation, it can be about the end of a love story and the fading of those memories, or about the city of Santiago after the 1973 coup d'etat (song was released in 1975).
@@CriticalReactions Yes, and both interpretations can also explain the somberness you felt in the song, the feeling of losing something. I recommend you listen more of this band, in the channel or your own time. The album Alturas de Machu Picchu (The Heights of Machu Picchu) is considered their best one, a musicalization of a poem of the same name by Pablo Neruda.
Thank you for reacting to Los Jaivas, please react to "La poderosa muerte" or "Corre que te pillo" two of the greatest psicodelic/progressive songs from this band....
Original members: Eduardo Parra (synthesizer), Gabriel Parra (drums), Claudio Parra (piano), Eduardo "Gato" Alquinta (Leader voice, guitar) & Mario Mutis (Bass). Anyway, all of them play percussion, chorus, Gato & Mario exchanged strings. Gabriel & Gato passed away long time ago. Eduardo is retired.
Really liked this. It's always surprising to find international bands that have so strongly digested and adopted familiar genres like prog and metal. This has definite shades of classic Yes and Genesis, but with perhaps more folky and psychedelic influences. One cool thing here is how the piano and bass felt more like the compositional backbone while the drums and guitar felt more improvised. Not sure if that's how it was written, but I think that contrast is where that prog and psychedelic melding comes in, because prog was always bigger on composition while psychedelia focused more on improvisation. I will say that the "bittersweet" tone here reminds me strongly of the band Love and their album Forever Changes. They mastered that combination of uplifting and downbeat tones. Alone Again Or is the perfect track to illustrate this.
It was very nice to see this band featured in the channel, although the song is very far from the ones I find most impressive, it is still representative of their music. I am from a younger generation than Los Jaivas original fans and I was introduced to them by my father and music teacher. At first I had heard their "easier to get into" songs, but when I got older and got a better appreciation of music, I delved into their most progressive stuff and was mind blown by it. I was surprised by how geniune of a mix between prog rock and andean folk was achieved at such early years.Technically, this band is older than Yes and Genesis, being formed under the name "The High & Bass" in 1963, but their sound progressed from a more party and latin hippie oriented style to their prog sound as they got more politically aware around 1969. The literal translation of the song's title is "the conquered" (in female), so considering their anti-oppression stance, you would expect the longing feel around the music and lyrics. It was a very enjoyable analysis, thank you, Bryan.
Another very unique and very cool Special Selection. Thank you, Patricio. That had a really nice flow. I heard that section where I thought they might go "jammy" but it was better structured. Hah! Love the water dive outro! 😄
i mean, it's called spanish but when spoken is another language lol. Glad you reacted to this. Los Jaivas are chilean music royalty. Also the lyrics makes reference to a long love lost. which gives the somber feeling.
Los Jaivas production is incredible, far beyond it's time, an amazing band, if you like music in his different levels, including production, you will love this band.
The time signature is 6/8, which is the traditional Chilean folk music TS, in which the song is based. This is determined by the very characteristic presence of bass drum and bass guitar playing on the 2, 3 and 5, 6, leaving 1 and 4 suspended. The binary feel comes from the common 2 against 3 approach which is very common; dotted eighth notes against eighth notes. Very typical of chilean folk, and of latin america in general actually. Likely with a mixed influence of african rhytms and spanish folk. The african rhhytmic influence comes from afroperuvian folk music, which is a regionally very influential universe of its own since Chile did not have major African presence (Chile was, after Haiti and Dominican Republic, the first country to ban slavery in America, in 1823).
Me hubiese gustado poder comprender tu comentario...

When they started as a band, back in the 50's beginnings of 60's they were actually called "The High and Bass", because of the height difference between the Main singer (Alquinta) and the group of brothers playing drums, synth and piano (the Parra brothers).
It is good that young people continue to be surprised by the music of the jaivas, but the really good thing is alturas de machu pichu, which is an adaptation of the poems of Pablo Neruda, I hope you can see it subtitled to understand it completely, greetings from Chile
@@CriticalReactions This was the last great presentation of them as a group, since the "Alquinta cat" died, on the drums is the daughter of the original drummer, Juanita Parra does it in a great way, the Jaivas is a whole world ua-cam.com/video/PCoFW3arTRc/v-deo.html
Yes bro¨ they are muscian session .... there was jamming, meny years ago.
Jaivas, in spanish, is the name for a species of crab. Usually linked, obviously, to a tropical and relaxed life. I think a lot of salsa and cumbia bands are called like this. Might be totally unrelated tho, but even the guy sings similarly to singers in the salsa genre. Also: Russian Circles - Harper Lewis *or* 309 (Live Empros Session)
The song "La conquistada" is very beautiful but "Los Jaivas" have another one even better, it is called "La Poderosa Muerte" (The powerful death). It's a mix between psychedelic rock and Andean folklore, it's an incredible cosmic journey. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/Jz--S_UjR5s/v-deo.html This song "La poderosa muerte" (The powerful death) is in the album "Alturas de Machu Picchu" (Heights of Machu Picchu), with lyrics by the poet Pablo Neruda, inspired by the ruins of Machu Picchu.
Los Jaivas singer (Eduardo Alquinta) died January 15 2003. Every Chilean radio played this song when he died. End before (April 15 1988) we lose the original drummer (Gabriel Parra)
nice reaction dude, you should try "la poderosa muerte" of them too, it's a nice idea read the lyrics traduced, you would get the poetry and the intention of their music.
You MUST react to the song "La Poderosa Muerte" from their album "Alturas de Machu Pichu". There you can see the amount of instruments they handle with unparalleled mastery. And you will be able to admire the monstrous drums used by Gabriel Parra.
What i love from this track, at least as a Chilean, is that you can hear the essentials of local Folk music even on the more prog rock parts, that being the singing style, the 6/8 time signature, the harmonics and the syncopation, a masterful mixture of chilean folk and prog rock. I recommend checking out Kuervos del Sur - Enredaderas, which is a more modern band but they took direct influence from Los Jaivas.
Hey Pal .... we speak chilean spanish .... the band was originally named The High Bass .... the pronunciation took them to be named Los Jaivas, created in the 60's in Viña del Mar ....
LA PODEROSA MUERTE - LOS JAIVAS VIDEO CLIP OFICIAL! This is an incredible video clip recorded on the heights of Machu Picchu, Many people compare this video clip with the theme Echoes of Pink Floyd that were recorded in the ruins of Pompeii, perhaps it is because of the style of the band since it is a progressive rock very typical of those times
I think you like hard styles, you could listen to tarka y ocarina, it's a progressive multi styles with a lot of hard music, no lyrics, just instrumental song
6/8 is the the rhythm of de "Cueca", a traditional Chilean dance, that Los Jaivas use in many of their themes. In this song, it's played a little slower than the dance. The Jaivas' style is mostly based on folkloric music mixed with rock.
Please can you react to Los Prisioneros .The band is also from Chile as the band Los Jaivas In its beginnings, the group developed a punk sound with nuances of new wave, to later approach synth pop. . They became known because their music and especially their lyrics - which questioned various aspects of political and social events in Chile and in the rest of Latin America - woke up and encouraged a generation of young people repressed by the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet who used some of these songs in their protests against the regime. For this reason, Los Prisioneros were censored by some of the main media in their country until the end of the dictatorship, transforming the group into one of the most important Chilean and Latin American rock bands.I can recommend you Tren al sur Estrechez de Corazón,El baile de los que sobran ,Corazones Rojos,We are sudamerican rockers

I love that duality in the lyrics. They're so different and it's interesting that they both can be interpreted.
@@CriticalReactions Yes, and both interpretations can also explain the somberness you felt in the song, the feeling of losing something. The african rhhytmic influence comes from afroperuvian folk music, which is a regionally very influential universe of its own since Chile did not have major African presence (Chile was, after Haiti and Dominican Republic, the first country to ban slavery in America, in 1823).
From Chile, the best band the world
Me hubiese gustado poder comprender tu comentario...
i really like the musical analysis, good job.
Long Live The Jaivas..
"Los Jaivas" (lit.: The Crabs) is a representation in Spanish of the pronounciation of "High Bass".
When they started as a band, back in the 50's beginnings of 60's they were actually called "The High and Bass", because of the height difference between the Main singer (Alquinta) and the group of brothers playing drums, synth and piano (the Parra brothers).
Please la poderosa muerte - los jaivas 🙏🙏👏
Please do La podersa muerte - Los jaivas en machupichu
Yei, please react to this song
It is good that young people continue to be surprised by the music of the jaivas, but the really good thing is alturas de machu pichu, which is an adaptation of the poems of Pablo Neruda, I hope you can see it subtitled to understand it completely, greetings from Chile
I'll see what I can do about checking out that one with subtitles. Thanks for the recommendation.

un abrazo...../ Have a nice day
😀
Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/Jz--S_UjR5s/v-deo.html
This song "La poderosa muerte" (The powerful death) is in the album "Alturas de Machu Picchu" (Heights of Machu Picchu), with lyrics by the poet Pablo Neruda, inspired by the ruins of Machu Picchu.
Esto si "es" una verdadera reacción. Los wow, greatest, divine are thrash...
Bella bella bella canción!!
Please react to "La poderosa muerte" (the powerful death) by Los Jaivas in Machu pichu... it is their master piece
Excelente
Welcome, to the World Los Jaivas. Please listen Tarka y Ocarina.
Rects "la poderosa muerte"
Los Jaivas singer (Eduardo Alquinta) died January 15 2003. Every Chilean radio played this song when he died. End before (April 15 1988) we lose the original drummer (Gabriel Parra)
nice reaction dude, you should try "la poderosa muerte" of them too, it's a nice idea read the lyrics traduced, you would get the poetry and the intention of their music.
Los Jaivas 👏👏👏👏
analyst, if you can, to the song Tarka y Ocarina from Los Jaivas, is a real mix of genres uffff

PLEASE react to "la poderosa muerte" peak latinoamerican music. It is a Pablo Neruda's (literature Nobel winner) poem musicalized by los jaivas...
Can you react to "tarka y okarina",by jaivas or los elementos by congreso? Are awsome compositions, very interesting 🌌
You found Los Jaivas...that´s a door you never close again.
You MUST react to the song "La Poderosa Muerte" from their album "Alturas de Machu Pichu".
There you can see the amount of instruments they handle with unparalleled mastery. And you will be able to admire the monstrous drums used by Gabriel Parra.
I already got you! ua-cam.com/video/WFLZ990N9IU/v-deo.html
LA PODEROSA MUERTE - LOS JAIVAS
VIDEO CLIP OFICIAL!
This is an incredible video clip recorded on the heights of Machu Picchu,
Many people compare this video clip with the theme Echoes of Pink Floyd that were recorded in the ruins of Pompeii, perhaps it is because of the style of the band since it is a progressive rock very typical of those times
Reacts please "La poderosa Muerte" Los Jaivas Las Alturas de Macchu Picchu.
Welcome To Jaivas world..and jaivas start like sound of Hype .hy..vas
The lyrics in this song are beautiful btw, as most of Los Jaivas songs

Excellent reaction. You can also react to La Poderosa Muerte song. It will blow you mind. I guarantee. Progresive Rock in its almost potencial
I think you like hard styles, you could listen to tarka y ocarina, it's a progressive multi styles with a lot of hard music, no lyrics, just instrumental song
the rythm than they use it's called "cueca".
"Mira niñita" or "Sube a nacer conmigo hermano" please...
Please reacc to" Mira niñita" of los jaivas.. Is the mos beatifull music.. Please please...
This is one of the best band in the world.
