Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥
Thanks for hearing our suggestion and coming back with this song.
They were part of Sabaton's Europe Tour, and everyone were having a blast with them coming back to the stage in these live concerts and more is coming such the Babyklok Tour in the US along with Dethklok and another return to UK and Europe for a headline shows. They finished the Asian and Australian Tour and more is coming such recently performing at Rising Sun Rock Festival, but so far this beloved song by fans wasn't part of the setlist outside of Japan.
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date.
This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special and one night only, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are:
    - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad
    - "Babymetal Death", get ready for this insane ending,
The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice.
The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan.
Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are hyping the crowd singing "Hedoban hedoban", the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult- 👀
The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities.
They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists).
    They are:
    - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.)
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday".
    - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father was a very famous in Japanese music scene.
During recent live tour there was a complete different set of musicians playing with them, we called them Western Kami Band, and yeah, pretty much the official members of BabyMetal are the girls.
    Next suggestion:
    - Karate live at Download Festival 2016.
Stay tuned next August 18 for a new huge collab song coming up along with no other than the living legend Tom Morello from RATM.
Thanks for sharing this suggestion and see you next time!🦊🤘❤

Jakemuller on point with facts as always! To add, the guys from Kami Band that Jake mentioned has played at vaaaast majority of Babymetal live shows.
Kami Band West was a recent addition, and brought on to support Babymetal's increased touring intensity (giving original Kami Band a break to attend to their personal lives).
They are: Chris Kelly & CJ Masciantonio (Guitars), Clint Tustin (bass) [these 3 are from a band called "Galactic Empires"], and Anthony Barone (previously from Shadow of Intent).
During this concert (Legend 1997 in 2013), first 9 songs are played with "Babybones", actors in skeleton costumes pretend playing instruments to tracked songs (where Gimme Chocolate was filmed). For the last 5 song encore, Kami Band was officially introduced to back Babymetal for live shows and replaced Babyones (this is where this version of Headbanger was filmed). From this point onwards, Kami Band played for Babymetal in all their live shows.
      Enjoy! 🤘🦊

"Headbanger" is one of their early hits. Lyrics are an allegory about growing up and leaving the childhood behind, not without a hint of nostalgia. This is a really special song as they performed it on special occasions with Yui and Moa taking over the lead vocals and even changing slightly the lyrics for Su and Moa's 20th birthdays (their actual coming of age).
Yes, what you see here is a masterclass in crowd control. And that particular crowd was totally on fire... and they got that night exactly what they deserved. 😁
Don't worry about the "right moves" they will lead the crowd interaction. That is actually one of Moa and Momoko's jobs (and Yui's at the time). And they are black belt in crowd control. What they do on stage is really impressive.
    Until next time!

We know, Babymetal is not your regular metal band, on average it takes at least 3 songs/videos of their own music/performances to 'get it', you've now done 2 of those and I think you are on the right track.
Some have said: they are the hardest working girls in metal at the time, they were also the best internationally well known Japanese teenagers.
Not many bands can make a crowd jump like that even when they are adults, Babymetal does when they were just kids.
No worries, their are no wrong movements, at most standing still is maybe the only 'bad' thing you could do. 🙂
Others have already explained and provided suggestions.
But if you would want to go, Babymetal Tilburg zo 3. December 2023 is not sold out yet.

  • @Grington300
    @Grington300 9 місяців тому +24

Great reaction. If you go to see them don't worry about doing all the right moves, just follow the girls' lead - their choreography serves two very real purposes: first off it is related to the song and helps with interpreting the meaning of the song or of a lyric, but more importantly it is designed to hype the crowd and to let them know exactly when to jump, when to pump their fist, when to sing along or chant etc.
Yes this was the same concert as the 'Gimme Chocolate' video that you watched before - the Legend 1997 concert in December 2013, Su-metal's 16th birthday celebration. Yuimetal and Moametal were both 14 and you are right, the fact they could control crowds of thousands (8 or 9,000 at this show) at such a young age is incredible ... and the crowds at their Japanese arena shows have just got bigger since then. They sold out the Tokyo Dome - 55,000 people - two nights running in 2016.
BABYMETAL is the three girls. The musicians behind them in this performance are the Kami Band, some of the very best session musicians to be found in Japan.
BABYMETAL started in 2010 with very little budget, so their early shows they performed with pre-recorded instrumentals.
Early in 2012 guys in skeleton suits were brought in and would be on stage with them, but they were only pretending to play the instruments, the instrumentals were still pre-recorded. They were called Babybones - you saw them in the 'Gimme Chocolate' video.
Later in 2012 BABYMETAL finally got a bit more budget, so the Kami Band was introduced, finally a live band ... they were phased in gradually playing at a couple of festivals and playing the encores in some shows. Legend 1997 was the last time they played only the encores (the last 5 songs).
BABYMETAL released their first album in February 2014 and in March 2014 they played two shows at the Budokan in Tokyo. The Kami band became their full time support for all live shows from then on and have been supporting BABYMETAL ever since.
As session musicians the Kami Band members have their own bands and projects, so they swap in and out depending on their own availability, so there have been many Kami band members over the years - but the same hard core of about 6 musicians played the vast majority of the shows.
In this video you saw guitarists Mikio Fujioka (RIP Jan 2018) and Leda Cygnus, bassist BOH and drummer Hideki Aoyama.
In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians Chris Kelly, CJ Masciantonio, Clint Tustin and Anthony Barone) were introduced to support BABYMETAL on the more lengthy foreign tours and it is them who have been supporting BABYMETAl on the recent tour of Europe with Sabaton, the SE Asian and Australian tour and it looks like they will continue to be the support for the upcoming US tour and the European tour that follows later this year.
'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday - but 15 is also significant in Japan as that is when compulsory education ends, so the girl is realising she will no longer be considered as a child and her first 15 years passed by so quickly.
So she is etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget.
At shows on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 Yui and Moa (the two younger girls) took over lead vocals when Su (lead singer) handed them the mic and stand half way through the song (there are only fancam videos for those performances).
The same thing happened in 2019 for Moa's 20th birthday at the Legend M concert (20 is the official coming of age in Japan).

The best analogy for the band is Nine Inch Nails, which is Trent Reznor and sutdio musicians when he tours. Trent can replace the musicians, but they come from a small group and you see them time and again. Babymetal works the same way, the Kami Band is made of musicians that change, ofren because they have other projects too, but we have seen them before. And like NIN, you get a different vibe with different Kamis. Steely Dan is the same way, as is Ozzy Osborne

You are so fun to watch thank you, makes my day when one of your videos pops up.
Others will detail this better, but this concert (Legend 1997) was Su-Metal's 16th birthday party. the video [from the channel that stores it] you watched starts with "12. BABYMETAL ..." because it was the 12th song in the setlist. Oddly enough the first song in the setlist is also "Headbanger" but as a (mix) with ave marie intro. The same channel you got this from has the entire concert except for 13. (akatsuki unfinished version) i think is the title -- if you ever felt like doing a full Legend 1997 watch it is truly an iconic concert from them when they are starting out, just be careful if you do to have 13. queued up its one not to miss if you watch the whole show, because this concert is beginning to end a theatrical performance as well as music setlist.
As to which videos to watch, it's quite difficult to go wrong, doubly so if it's a live performance. If you get "road of resistance live in japan (official)", and "rondo of nightmare with kami band intro", and "akatsuki bukodan red night" live you will get to see them at some of their early best. out of so many excellent songs and performances.

If you want to see how hard they can rock and think you are ready then Babymetal Death from legend 97.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。Can you believe that this is the 12th song after 11 exhausting performance (and still 2 more) even if this was filmed in 2013 when they were mid-teens? The crowd's mass headbanging occurs wherever BM goes on this planet. In this video, you heard the crowd shout some words at 03:57. The words are "ki-e-ro 消えろ!" meaning "get out of here!" (addressed to crybabies in the metal concert). This crowd's shout in Japanese occurs whenever Su-Metal turns her mic towards the audience. Now the girls have grown up into beautiful ladies. Please react to BM more including their recent performance.

No, the Kami Band is not actually part of Babymetal. Babymetal is just the 3 girls.
I believe there have been over 25 different players in the Kami Band over the years, maybe over 30 at this point..i've lost count...but that was mostly early on..there are currently 2 sets of the Kami Band..The Kami's of the East and the West. The original Kami Band settled into a group of about 6 players before Mikio's death in 2018 R.I.P. (one of the lead guitarist-fell from an observation deck while stargazing).
Starting in 2019, Babymetal was accompanied by the Kami Band of the West...a group of Wester players who support them on their overseas touring dates.
So that's the short of it. Some of Japan's best musicians (at least in the Amuse, Inc stables) play as the backing band for Babymetal.
    More Babymetal Always!!
    Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

  •  9 місяців тому +4

The band is the Kami Band, is technically part of BABYMETAL, BUT is a band dedicated exclusively to play live with BABYMETAL, since both BABYMETAL and the Kami Band are propierty of AMUSE. The members may change, and in the last years there is a more lot members whom rotate between concerts (and also it dependes if is japan only or international tour). Back in the day they were 5 or 6 members only rotating to the 4 instruments, until one of them die. This days they wear masks so is hard to tell them apart.

Su, Yui and Moa are Babymetal. The band is the Kami band, Babymetal's touring band. They got to tour the world because of 3 teenagers!!

First, you're going back about ten years but it isn't "the start" - you need to go back to 2012 and their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay") - that would be the start.
And you're right, this is from the same concert as was your reaction to "Gimme Chocolate!!"; the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" concert which they did on Dec. 21, 2013 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan just outside of Tokyo. Apparently it has a capacity of 9,000 and it looks like this show sold out.

@@ThirstyTunaTaco Sabaton's posts and barbed wire did block the view sadly. The musicians were Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums.
They were interacting with the crowd when I saw them at Wembley, but they couldn't do too much because the space on the stage was very limited.
Maybe they will be more obvious on the Babymetal headline tour later this year.

Checked your channel, so here are 3 bands that WAY better than ones you've to.
Band Maid, Hard Rock - Start with "Puzzle"
Love bites, Metal - Start with "Hammer of Wrath"
Nemophila, Metal/Rock - Star with "Revive"
They are all female and write their songs!! Their musicianship is on another level!!!
