    In hindsight it makes sense to assemble these machines on the site. But I would have assumed a little cleaner environment... Like an asphalted or brick paved area.

    • @andyav9165
      @andyav9165 2 роки тому +1

      I’ve assisted in building many of these, although the older Demag 185, we usually didn’t store the parts like this. We’d build them as the parts arrive over two to three days. I would not have put the side frame ( tracks ) so close to another part either. Interestingly I’ve been to Düsseldorf where they are made and when I asked do they assemble them to check they fit together, I was told they only assemble the bigger ones, this is considered one of the smaller ones and has not been pre-assembled , when they put this one together it will be for the first time. They are almost always put together in an area like this, it doesn’t really hamper the construction as all the mating surfaces need to be cleaned before assembly. As for why they are built on site, these machines are simply to big and heavy to transport in one peace, but are designed to come apart in such a way they are able to be transported in many different weights and sizes depending and road restrictions, sometimes the car body ( bottom bit ) and the supper structure ( top bit ) can be left together but take off the equipment ( arms and bucket )

    • @electrolytics
      @electrolytics 2 роки тому

      It's a digger...not a dollhouse. Where have you seen 2-3 acres of paved land just sitting around empty not doing anything? Keeping in mind that the paved pad must be adjacent to the worksite because you can't drive this down the road or put it on any truck once it's assembled.

    How many in the crew that assembles this beast and how many support personnel to help them do this task .

    • @andyav9165
      @andyav9165 2 роки тому +3

      Minimum of 3 preferably 5 not including the crane drivers, you need two of them. 3 to 4 days depending how organised you are she”ll be ready for testing and setting pressures 1 day later ready for work.

    • @dallasbaiton371
      @dallasbaiton371 2 роки тому

      So when they built this machine was it preassembled at the factory befor it was shipped or is it just assembled once at the work site and then the technicians make all the electrical and hydraulic tests . The paint looks like it has never bin put together yet before shipping . It must be a real honour for the operator to be chosen to run a new machine like that once it has be assembled and ready to work .

    • @andyav9165
      @andyav9165 2 роки тому +1

      @@dallasbaiton371 yea, that’s right, it’s never been assembled before the 185 up to I think the 285. The 485 and 685 We’re at that time assembled at the factory, sorry for the older numbers but I new them as Demags. The pressures are set I believe at site ( wasn’t my job ) but the full speed swing , boom up speed is measured and a lot more. These are taken to check the machine sold is performing correctly, and they have a figure to check against if the machine starts to under perform. It was common place for the driver to complain the machine was operating slower than they thought it should be, sometimes they were right. Most of the drivers let loose on them were old hands and didn’t really get fussed over driving a new machine. They are seriously not as good to work on as you may think, everything is a story up and your legs take a beating. They become tiresome after climbing 20 times a day.👍

    Outstanding! That sure looks so nice all new and shiny. I thought Komatsu was a Japanese company with assembly plants here in the states. Are they now German owned or simply that this machine was made there in a factory?

      No the large Komatsu mining shovels from the PC3000 and up and all ex Demag machines. Komatsu purchased Demag in 1996 and the machines still come out of the Dusseldorf factory in Germany. Thanks!

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  2 роки тому

      At the time this machine was purchased in 2016 the cost delivered was US $4.9 million. The PC3000 is actually one of the most expensive machines in it's class. It's impossible to prevent every breakdown, but with good preventative maintenance, these machines are very dependable. Lifetime of a hydraulic machine varies depending on how well maintenance is, but these machines are usually good for 20-30 years.

      I could be getting my history wrong but they got into mining equipment by buying Demag, including their german factory. Most of these companies have grown through purchases, not starting new locations.

      @@PAmining yea, it’s a nice place, I was educated in the on site school in the factory at Düsseldorf,only for a week on the hydraulic electro pilot,engine management systems and lubrication control but another 15 or more years working on them and the O&K’s give me a bit of a preference, I’ll only say 2 engines for me always beats 1 . Although it does lead a bit of a birds nest of hydraulic hoses🙂
