Since they are not waterproof, one fun thing about Flairs is that you can get a watercolor blended edge by VERY carefully adding water with is small brush. I use this in my sketchbook for fun.
Ooooh I’ll have to try that out!!!
Flair.. Designers best friend. I also love the Pentel Sign Pen. Its a thicker line and compliments the Flair very well.
Yeah those are nice, although the ink is a bit lighter than the flair ink.
@@sketchadaydotcom You think so? They look very similar to me. My three "in my pocket" pens are ALWAYS, flair, sign, and sharpie. Thin, medium, thick lines. And I carry them everywhere I go. Sign pens work great on literal napkins, in case sketching idea comes to you on a whim.
Flairs are so great. I tried them last summer, and was so hooked and evangelistic about them after blowing through my first 4-pack that my girlfriend got me a bunch for Christmas and they're what I use every day. Perfect for Drawabox and getting down and dirty with printer paper.
Yes! 🙌🏾
Thanks for the BTS peek at some of the tools in your toolbox. I've loved Flair pens since I was a little kid. To me, they're a nice happy medium between the crispness of the ballpoint and the richness of the sharpie (I lean towards Extra Fine and Fine point, myself). I agree that using a pen forces you to think about drawings and designs a bit differently than with pen (I think the same goes for crossword puzzles, but that's a topic for another time).
Thank you. Very useful episode!$😊💥
LOVE FLAIRS. I both love and hate how you MUST be confident of the line you are about to put down because there's no going back. Maybe some line thickening to hide but it's pretty easy to tell where the mistakes are with this one. But when you've warmed up and the lines are going down right where you want them, ooowee FLAIRS are the dream
Yeah really makes you think before committing
First. goodluck ❤👍
Chartpak army rise up! Better blending, better color lay down, and it works with everything. I HATE how copics streak, and dry to a white speckled color.
You do need the right paper, but I love that I can refill. I talk a bit about marker paper in an upcoming vid.
@@sketchadaydotcom I stick with graphics 360, it's what our school recommends, and it's what I now swear by, it doesn't build up to an oil slick on the page, works more like vellum. You do need paper under neath though as it does bleed through, but has virtually zero feathering.
Copics are cool for that. But when was the last time an AD marker needed a refill? My professor has one from the 90's still kicking, lol.
If promarkers come out with refills, it'll be a game changer for sure, much better ink lay down and saturation.
Great video! One question: what is that 'on air' thingy in the back? Thanks!
LaMetric clock
Hi, I'm new and this question isn't really related to the video but in your tape measure video, would you have both shadows? As in the one you sketched behind the tape measure on the simple background and the one you constructed below it.
Thanks!
It’s a stretch on reality but used to ground the subject on the page
Oh, thank you so much! My design class have been drawing many of your tutorials for homework and I really wanted to understand that. I'm really thankful you could reply so soon! My class is tomorrow so it was really helpful.
It would be great if flairs were refillable. I don't do a lot of marker. For me it's a mix of fountain pen, isographs, and gel pens.
Would be super nice. I’ve been using some refillable brush pens lately.
I know you draw in Copics, but have you ever used Chartpak AD Markers? I have about 50 and I love them. But there isn't much out there about others using them.
I have one or two here or there.
Chartpaks are what copics wish they were. Only thing holding them back is the smell. A single marker lasts years. Much better color lay down and there is seldom any streaks.
If you ever go traveo in a third world country, take those pens that you don't use. Kids there always ask for pens.
Nice video :)
Will do!
