I just got mine and so far it’s so much better than my old self propel from about 10 years ago. Even though it’s push it’s so much easier to maneuver. Also not having to deal with gas and oil is FANTASTIC!
I bought this mower two years ago on a whim thinking that it was probably going to be a waste of $300 and I was probably gonna end up taking it back to Lowe’s, well I was wrong about that & this is without a doubt the best push mower I’ve ever used👍👍
I got mine at Lowe’s today on sale for $249.
Would you recommend it?@@stephenadamsmusicalinterpr4203
My 10 month review. I love this mower. I have to admit i havent treated it right, ive hit rocks and large sticks and she keeps holding up good. I have a big back and front yard and i can do both with one charge and still have some left
Thanks awesome, thanks for sharing.
Bought my Skil mower beginning of May. Fantastic mower priced well below the other brand electric mowers including it's corporate cousin the Ego. Battery life is excellent. After five months still can do my whole lawn on a single charge (100x 150 ft). Highly recommended. Also bought the electric Skil chain saw that uses the same battery that works great as well.
I. Have the. Same mower runs a. Long time on one. Charge ,it. Cuts. Good , I. Like it better. Than the. Ego
I bought the matching trimmer so I now have two batteries and two chargers. For the price of the battery you may as well buy a trimmer, or blower, or saw and have an extra battery should cutting your lawn require more than one battery. But I can cut for over an hour and still have charge left. Never going back to gas. No oil changes, spark plug, air filter. Plus because it is so light you can easily flip it up on its side to clean out the underside. They are especially great for women, no pulling the cord to start. And my elderly neighbor loves hers.
Love mine. Great battery life. I hope Skil keeps this mower simple. Thats what I like about it.
Awesome, so glad it's working well for you. It is a very simple mower, and very light as well. Thanks for watching.
Still like it?
Thanks for the concise review, sir. You hit all of the key points without lengthening the video with unnecessary information. Much appreciated.
This video was everything I needed it to be. All of my questions were answered. I’m going this weekend to buy. My husband is going into assisted care in a few weeks and I think I can manage with this just fine. Thank you!
I’m sorry ma’am I could not imagine losing my wife I hope he is doing well💜
I got mine in case my husband got injured or I’ll, and I love this mower.
Lowes has them on sale right now for $249. Just bought mine with military discount saving another $25. NO MORE CARBURETOR PROBLEMS!! I just hope it lasts.
The battery itself is like $168. Good deal! I have one now with a dead battery.
I just bought this today from Lowe's and I'm impressed with the weight of it, considering I'm disabled. I'm looking forward to using it tomorrow, because the box advertising 15 minute charge but that was not the case straight out of the box. I had to charge it for about an hour and 15 minutes to get the 4 bars, so hopefully after this it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. You did an excellent job explaining all the ins and out of this compact lawn mower. I wasn't aware how easy it would be to adjust the height with just one hand, definitely a bonus. Take care and God bless.
Just got mine and you had me looking but I didn't see that on the box for the 40v products. It's for the 12v impact wrench I bought also. That brings it to 25 percent to be able to finish your work. So divide 12 into 40 and figure out the 25 percent. Lol.
@@UPdan I have a standard size yard not too big not too small, but I use one bar for the front yard and one bar for the backyard, and then repeat. I'm still impressed with it especially with the weight and easy storage. Hope that you experience the same amount of pleasure with your purchase. God bless 🙏.
Got mine today at Lowe’s, on sale for $249.
This winter I was thrilled to find out Skil made a snowblower! Bought at Lowe's for $299 on sale. Works great! Never gonna buy an EV truck or SUV, but I'm sold on Skil products!!!!!!!!
I just bought one. Haven't mowed since HS.😗 ..that was 1983. Wish me luck. Got one at Lowe's....$249! Perfect for my American Neighborhood.
I'm really impressed with the trimmer and blower combo.
I agree. We bought that one before buying the mower. They all do a great job
Just bought one yesterday at Lowe’s yesterday! Thanks for the video.
I'm just about to cross my 2nd season with this mower. Its a very solid mower once you "learn it".
EX: If you're going to throw it at thick overgrown grass (especially with a lot of moisture), you're gonna need a higher cut than you might have preferred.
The weight is excellent (about 1/2 that of a standard mower), making the use of this unit an option for more people.
Tip: Dont keep the mower, batteries and charger out in a full temperature & humidity element setting (overhang, shed, etc). Its a setup for damaging the battery and lessening the lifespan of the mower
Con : The batteries are absurdly expensive, costing 1/2 to 2/3rds of what the entire mower, battery & charger package costs. If you take good care of your battery (keep it indoors, dont leave it fully discharged, etc), this wont be much of an issue.
My Skil 40v push mower came this morning. These are nice.
This one is a gift. I liked mine so much.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Purchased mower. Took it out of box and looked at directions and thought “This 77 year old lady will never figure this out!!!”. Put down directions, found your video and Voila. Ready to roll. Your explanation is so easy and simple to understand.👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love this mower...it came already put together...had it a year and was wondering how long the battery's will last with a regular mowing season...
I just bought a mobile home on a 1/6 of an acre last yr, and my John Deere riding mower was no longer needed. My Hyper Tough push mower just quit, so I decided to ditch gas as I already own the Skil 40v trimmer and blower. Can't wait to try this mower!
Thanks for the info.i am a 60year old women and I can not pull the gas mowers so this was an excellent choice for me. I just wanted to get another option. I have a half acre and it is doing well for me
Just bought it and it’s a great mower! Great review as well!
This is a good review on the Skil mower and I just picked one up today with a second battery and will be testing it tomorrow. The only thing I saw in the video that seemed off was when you were talking about the handle being adjustable in height as well as the angle. I think I read on the mower's instructions somewhere that the only way the mower will start is if the handle is in the fully extended position as a safety switch.
I find this video interesting. I have many mowers and enjoy watching companies deployment of their version of what we need. It’s great.👍
This Skil is very much like my Craftsman V60 mower....and it's a beast.. love it....
It's self propelled and was still under $400 w/ 7.5ah battery.... I don't feel I could have gone wrong with either...
Thanks TJ...🏁
That's not a bad mower at all. Thanks for watching.
I got a deal on the self propelled one for $255 on Amazon… loved it
Thanks for doing this review. You did a great job. 👍
I just bought it at Lowes! Thanks for the video.
Perfect, we hope it works well for you. Thanks for watching.
Lowes isn’t selling them anymore😞
Awesome review. I'm buying one tommorow.
Excellent video answered all my questions thank you
I think battery choices matter a lot for these smaller mowers. I just bought the small Craftsman that uses two v20 batteries because I have a ton of those tools/batteries. This Skill mower looks good, but I just didn't want to have another tool that used another type of battery. I figured for me, it was either get the thing that uses the same battery platform, or go all in something like the EGO line where I could get all of the tools that are complete overkill for my yard.
How’s the craftsman mower doing? I have a bunch of the v20 line and my mower just lost self propelled and I’m looking to go electric
@@mercury0214 Seems to be doing well. It seems to mow the densest parts of my lawn with out issue... It's very quite and smooth. Very easy to move around. Definitely a good fit for my size/type of lawn.
Just bought it. Can't wait to use it
This mower is a beast and does far more then the expensive Ryobi. Ryobi batteries are $250+ these batteries are worth the cost at $150
I have a very old Ryobi 16 inch 40v mower, but they don’t make it anymore. It’s still running great. We bought it at least 4-5 years ago. I am a petite woman who loves to do yard work. The Ryobi is just right for me. I am looking to get one for the front yard while the Ryobi can stay in the basement for the back yard. I am convinced that I am going to get this one.
@@jpfang3109 everything you own comes from China I bet. I'm American and I want American owned things period without the radioactivity. I'm also betting temu is your best friend. Temu is owned by the Chinese. Because they have an office in Boston doesn't make them a legitimate American made product. That's up to the installed president to decide
Mis information here. The handle MUST be fully extended and locked for the motor to turn on.
I thought mines was messed up just got mines today and was messing with it in the garage with the handles down mines don't turn on only when fully extended which is fine but I was like im taking it back tomorrow came here for some answers thanks lol
You are amazing. You explain it great!!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
The push version is on sale right now for $249 while the self-propelled one is $349. Both also offer an instant rebate of $75.
The kobalt 5a 40v for $300 is really awesome 🤘
I guess I got the crappy one. Bought it for a rental home and renter complained it wouldn't charge, so we got him a cheap, used gas mower while the skil mower sat unused for over a year in the shed. Brought it home eventually and it charged right up and it worked great. Twice. Apparently, the battery management system is screwed up since it would not charge, then it would after I cleaned the contacts until I put it into the mower at which point the indicator of the "fully charged" battery turned all red and no workey. Now the battery still shows red while the charger says full. Should have pursued a warrantee claim but that ship is long gone. It just reinforced my instinctive distrust of cordless equipment.
This was super-informative. Thanks
I will definitely buy this brand. Thank yoy
I got a refurbished ryobi 20” with a 6ah battery for $172. Threw in another 4ah for $120 and was out the door for $300 and change. It’s ok. It does my 9000 sq ft yard plus the little cul de sak using both batteries. It does bog down when grass is tall. It doesn’t suck up leaves like a gas mower. And the ryobi handle connection to the mower body sucks. Maybe this still would be better if it was $300 and included two batteries. As these batteries age they will get weaker. So you’ll want two of them.
Just starting my 3rd summer with this mower. Yesterday when I started mowing the yard, it shuts off 10- 60 seconds into mowing. Starts right back up and then dies. Can't be the battery because the self-propelled works perfect even when the blade stops. Normal grass, charged battery. Not happy.
Just be aware that if you plan on getting a second battery they are $90 to $100 while others brands batteries are $50 or $60. I wish I would have known that before buying. I love this mower and it would be perfect with a second battery so one could charge while I continue to cut with the other. I don't know if I will get another battery or just break my mowing into but that might have had me switching brands.
I just bought one today. I charged the battery and did everything to start it. But it didn't do anything. I don't understand why?
How do you get the mower to stay on and adjust the handle to be used at the shorter length? It only turns on when fully extended and it turns off when I adjust the height down. Thanks in advance.
The mower looks great, especially for the price! Skip the Ego. There's so many other great choices out there!
I own one love it
Awesome! Great to hear it. Thanks for watching.
I still think it looks like the Pontiac Fiero. lol
Hardly anyone watching this video has any idea what the fiero was much less the dodge laser
’84, first model year. My first car 👍 Hope this lawnmower is going to be more reliable.
More like the Tesla cyber truck 🛻
@@viper92677 Speak for yourself dude
I knew it reminded me of something!
I wanted one but then I learned a new review that it is only a bagger and rear discharge. No mulching?
That’s nice lawnmower I hope I can get one
Very good mower, especially for the price. Thanks for watching.
I’m sold getting one real soon did you also reviewed the weed eater and blower?
Bought one today at Lowe’s for less than $275 including tax.
Just bought one from. Lowes. Charged the battery for almost a hour until the battery had all green lights. I added the grass catcher and was ready to mow but it wouldn't start 😢
Make sure the handle is fully extended and locked. And make sure the battery is fully inserted.
Can you get replacement parts for these, or do you have to buy a whole new one when they break..?
Great review! Does this more have a great height adjustment?
To all of you who have purchased this: What can you tell me the cut quality of the blade in mulching mode? Are the clippings large, small, or not noticeable? I cannot find any reviews which address this specific topic. I was wondering because the only time I bag is to pick up leaves.
Does any one know if it comes with the bag ? Or is that sold separately
I’ve had mine for 2 months and every time I try to mow it stalls out , no videos on here about troubleshooting what the hell??
How long does it take to charge the battery?
Is there a way to regulate speed? Sometimes it goes into afterburner mode for some reason and I can reset that only by letting go of the hand and starting it up again
Do they offer a larger battery or one more appropriate for a larger yard?
I’m partially disabled. So mower weight is a huge issue. You say it less than 40lbs (which is my limit). But everywhere else, specs and reviews say it’s 50-60lb. The Ryobi I saw at HD was 40lb. I’d rather get the Skil, but I need to know it’s true weight. Can you help there?
How is the battery life??
What if you wanted to clean it? Is it water resistant? Can you spray the blade area down or is water something to be careful of with this?
wear gloves flip it over and use a putty knife. As my dad always said I HATE a lazy person.
Think something is wrong with Mines cuz I just got it and charged the power but the unit won't power on so now gotta take it back after wasting my damn time preparing to cut my grass😒😒
Sane thing just happened to me
1st one did the same I returned got another one and same thing. Now I have to go return it again
My 40V Skil Power40 5AH battery for this mower is dead. A new one is $168. I have a good Lowe's Kobalt 40V 6AH battery with of course a different pinout. If I knew the pinouts of the batteries and the Skil mower, I could run jumper wires to connect. Anyone have the necessary pinout info on the batteries and the mower so I can run the jumper wires?
Got one today for $249.00.
I wonder how it does on a lush thick lawn compared to ummmm.... well.... that thing. lol
Can i Use my Skil batteries from drills on this? I understand that they are not as capacious, but will they fit and run?
No
To anyone wondering - yes you can. When my two main batteries die off i stick on two batteries from drills and finish the job. Of course they die fast but if you have a tiny bit left - you can do it
I going to get me one
That's awesome. Thanks for watching.
It's real nice and all... But if I'm gonna spend decent money on a battery mower now-a-days (or ANY mower for that matter), I'm getting one with self propelled feature. No question about it.
Even if it's $100 more ... I'm tossing out the extra money for self propelled. That's just me... But it just doesn't make sense to me to invest in a new piece of equipment without self propelled feature. Even if I saved a few bucks, it wouldn't be worth saving the money to me. 🤟🏽👍🏼💯
But I'd probably go with the Ego over this one... Or even that new Ryobi 40V CrossCut that is new this year. Ryobi stepped up their game and put out a REAL nice battery mower this year.
You do make some good points, but you'd be surprised at how many people just want a simple mower with no sefl-propelled. We think this is a great mower to hit the lower price point and still get the performance.
You're definitely on the right tract for looking at the EGO self-propelled, they have really pulled the battery-powered lawn equipment industry into the current time. Yes, the new RYOBI mower is a great mower, but I don't think we'd ever seen this without EGO shaking up the industry first. Thanks for watching.
This thing is so light, for $279 for push vs $449 for self-propelled, getting the push version is a no-brainer.
@@anony_mouse1 I just got one from Lowe’s. Getting a push for cheaper is better!
As a 72.5 year old woman, I did buy the self-propelled. Didn't use that feature at first, as the mower is very light. I did use the self-propelled as I was getting tired and was happy to have the help. I call it my toy mower.
Does it come with the bagger?
yes, watch the video.
Is this mower hard to put together?
No. It comes ready to go.Just take it out of the box and charge the battery. It's really simple to use.
This or the push from Hart?
That's a good question. We haven't reviewed the Hart mower yet. I will say that I like the Skil charger over the Hart charger, for sure. Thanks for watching.
anyone that has this know of a way to keep it from shutting off if you go over a high patch of grass?
Raise the height, and gradually lower it
It would have been a better review if you had actually showed the mower mowing the grass.
Thanks for the tip and Thanks for watching
Trust me it's worth every penny
Why do you say an ego is a step up from the skil?
Yeah probably not built for SA or most warm season grass.
For me it started out with an ad for a Ryobi electric mower! My first mower was a Craftsman, it worked great, but lasted 3 years. It wasn't cheap. It was replaced with Toro that lasted 20 years, still works, but has issues, lost self-propelled, worked on it and now is one wheel drive. It was replaced with another Toro. What does a new battery cost and how many years will it last? Every power tool I've had when the battery went bad, it was always cheaper to buy a whole new kit.
its trash😂 4th time using it and it keeps shuttin off i cleaned it fully charged the batt n still shuts off as i cut grass
Ya my neighbor just got one and it also shuts off randomly. Tomorrow I'm going over with my z turn and taking care of it properly.
You ever figure out what was wrong with it, why it keeps shutting off, I’m having the same problem, full battery, just shuts middle of cutting.
This thing kept cutting off on my Bermuda grass took it back for a ego. Totally weak mower
The red color is ugly, like Fire Department. Make grey or dark green and black. Thanks.
Good point and thanks for watching.
This thing is complete trash. The motor has no ball to cut through a weeks worth of grass growth here in FL
junk! wont cut 4" grass without stalling. battery wont last 1/4 acre. avoid!
Too much unnecessary information intended to sell the mower when the only real question is how well it cuts in thick tall grass (not demonstrated) and it won't cut heavy tall grass, you need a much larger volt size than 40 volts for that.
Useless in Floritam Florida grass.
I'm not sure why you say that. Floratam is nothing but a hybrid of St. Augustine that UF created. It's all over here in Central Florida. We mow it all the time with this mower as well as all other battery powered mowers that we test. Thanks for watching.
Trash product. Stopped working after a year. Customer service was trash as well as every time I called, I got a different response. They are however sending another mower. Will sell it on Facebook marketplace. Going back to gas where I know how to troubleshoot any issues.
