@@TMBD50 As in "Trooping of the Colour" an annual parade in the presence of HM Queen. The Guards Regiments take it in turn to parade their Colour, it will show the Regiment's battle honours. The Royal Horse Artillery also parade. Their colours are their field guns, which date back to WWI, I think they are 13 pounders. This being YT if I got that wrong I will doubtless be 'told'.
@@TheArgieH Thank you for the information, every year, for many years, I look forward to this event again, which is also broadcast in my country, the Netherlands. Serious question. Has the saluting in the British Army changed? At around the 1.50 mark the guardsman (RSM?) pulls his hand almost vertically from his side to his forehead, I remember my father telling me many years ago that it was 'long way up short way down' i.e. out to the side in a curve to the saluting position and then straight down. Any answers please.
Saluting changes depending on what force you're in some are short way up and short way down, so on and so forth. Even the way your hand is turned changes, Royal Navy always have their hands palm down, Army however are palm up (This is due to when ships were covered with tar to preserve the wood, it would have been disrespectful to show a dirty palm to higher ranks). Hope it helps and happy new year 😊
N Yes, you're right, we have a left-handed drummer in the Band of the Royal Airforce in Holland, but he has the drum with the head to the left! I tried it myself like the drummer in the video...now i have to buy a new window...(lol)! Merry Christmas!
Before the guards reach the gate, the duty sergeant (who was found carrying the colour to the ensign of the guard), will yell "Out, the Escort" and the two Lance Corporal behind the St James De-attachment will rush to both sides of the Ensign, I believe the reason is to protect the colour before arriving to the Buckingham Palace forecourt.
Why is one platoon sergeant carrying his saber and swinging the same arm as the formation, but the rear platoon sergeant is carrying his in the opposite arm and swinging the opposite arm as everyone else?
The 1st platoon of guardsmen is being followed by a WO 1RSM or WO 2 CSM and is carrying a pace stick or Swagger cane which is carried under the left arm and the right arm to swing. The Officer directly behind the W.O. is leading his platoon of Guardsmen and is carrying his sword correctly in his right hand. The arm swing of both platoons will change throughout the parade as the Senior NCO/ Officer will call for a "Change Arms" at regular intervals ( the rifles are swopped from left to right shoulder and vice versa) Directly behind the band is th duty Drummer/Bugler he carrys the protective cover for the Colour should the weather be very inclement, he has already performed "drum calls/ signals " before the parade moves off.
What a complete mess.I am an ex Grenadier and my heart sinks to witness should a sloppy display.Standards continue to drop and have done so since the Seventies.
I love watching British pageantry - wish we had something comparable here in the States - instead of our military becoming rightists they might become real human beings with a love for country and Constitution.
This silly tourist show is the changing of the Guard to Her Majesty the Queen, who is head of U.K. Armed Forces, who in turn safeguard our freedom and rights - and fight for them if needs be. All the personnel you see here are fully trained and equipped soldiers. Whether tourists watch on or not is immaterial. So, is safeguarding your rights to freedom and security still silly?

Any reason for the guard rushing out (10:00) next to the colors at high ready?

Why does the drummer hold his sticks wrong? The right and left grip is switched. He is struggling playing correct that way.
He may be left handed.
