I have a soft spot for this version of the Fantastic four. They all looked apart and had a fun charm. Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans were the best parts of the team.
People need to put some respect on the Fantastic Four (2005) movie because this was a CLASSIC. I was so OBSESSED with this movie as a kid and I’m still am. The casting was AMAZING, decent plot/storyline, Julian McMahon as Doom, and Chris Evans (The Human Torch) stole the SHOW. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Your obsession doesn’t designate anything a classic, nor earn it respect. I’m not talking down on the movie. I hardly remember it. It not even in the bottom five of Marvel/Marvel based movies, but your personal feelings in it are not objective to what it is or deserves.
Yeah it was really well made in the casting, acting and effects departments, and the so-so script can be forgiven. It's supposed to be for kids anyway.
I don't think that this film is as bad as many people say it is. It's a flawed, but still a fun and entertaining film. The four cast members, especially Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans, gave solid performances as The Fantastic Four and the chemistry between them was spot on. Julian McMann's Dr Doom may have a Norman Osborne clone, but atleast he was a charismatic yet threatening bad guy and unlike Tobey Kebell from Fant4stic, there was atleast build up and development for his villainy. I also loved the fact that the movie's moral was about family and turning their biggest weaknesses into their greatest strengths. In conclusion, the Tim Story Fantastic Four films weren't perfect, but atleast the makers of these films tried.
Im so happy to see so many positive comments about this movie. All I ever heard for years is about how "bad" it was. I enjoyed it. Sometimes you can appreciate things for different reasons. You KNOW this is what we all pictured when we thought about this kind of stuff as kids.
Yeah they were too harsh and despite that it was still a box office smash no drop offs after the second week unlike 2003’s Hulk and Daredevil (both good Marvel Movies but both suffered drops after the second week sadly). For many years one of the reasons it was seen as bad is cause the director also directed barbershop as if that was a reason to call this film bad this was more faithful to the comics than critics give it credit for and despite the changes in origin McMahon was still Doom from the comics they just changed the outdated origin comics Doom had does it matter if Doom is caught in the same accident as the FF as long as everything else stays intact I’m fine with it.
Right? What a few years and dozens of utterly awful movies can do to rehabilitate a previously panned film. Compared to the garbage Marvel and Lucasfilm has put out since, this movie is top tier.
I was obsessed with this movie when I was in my teens. Before the movie came out I would always play teaser trailer on over and over again on the Elektra dvd. Fantastic Four while not a perfect movie by any means it's still fun.
I liked them both a lot more back when I saw them in the theater. I still like them, there's just been so many really good superhero movies that came after them.
I loved both of these Fantastic Four films. The issue was that it has so much filler. It has a really good story and a very strong cast. I was able to feel what they wanted me to feel. I got invested. Yet somehow the dialogue was so clunky. I wanted a third film. It would have been great b
imo the second one was better, so i would have also liked to have seen a part 3. sadly Hollywood went they way of reboots and yeah... there was a reboot of the first 2005 film if you didn't know (i think lots are trying to forget about it since it was accolades worse than the worst criticisms of this version)
How can you love the Sliver Surfer movie when it turned Galactus into a CLOUD?!! A CLOUD!! I hated that movie. The first movie maybe decent but the second was garbage.
The casting is perfect. Chiklis is an Fantastic Four fan and Stan Lee said his was his favorite Marvel performance. I imagine his voice when I read Fantastic Four comics.
I always liked this version and I thought that it worked. I collected the comics as a kid and think they got really close to how a Fantastic Four movie should be.. esp. for the time. I think critics judged this way too harshly.

This movie is decent in my opinion and I love Michael Chiklis's performance as Ben Grimm. Michael Chiklis makes you feel sympathy for his character and he has good chemistry with Ioan Gruffudd as well in my opinion.
The movie was certainly made for a family audience and it isn't groundbreaking in any way. However, considering the obsession nowadays to "deconstruct" characters or "subvert expectations", and how Marvel slowly but surely keeps moving away from trying to be accurate to its own properties and fans, in retrospect this F4 movie was a masterpiece.
Honestly unabashedly love this movie. Revisiting it as an adult after seeing how marvel has turned out now - it’s campy, it’s fun - it’s short and sweet. Brainless sure but especially for comparison to films like Punisher (2000’s) or multiverse of madness , this things great as is. Not perfect, but an easy watch for sure

i could care less what the numbers are. it was goofy but i loved those movies as a kid and now older i love them more (nostalgia) for what the were for their time. As long as i am entertained even if it's not the pinnacle of cinema... thats all
Dr. Doom is supposed to be a scientist, a sorcerer and a monarch. They just made him a dumb arrogant businessman in this movie, rather than an arrogant genius. Doom needs his own movie separate from the Fantastic Four to be done properly.
I still stand by Chiklis as Ben after all these years. He was The Best Part about These Films and I really hope Marvel gets Him for The Reboot. His Voice for the Thing is still the one I hear reading The Comics Today
For me, the film wasn’t that bad but I think there are 3 things that could have made the film work. 1. instead of Dr. Doom as the main villain, have mole man as the main villain. Sure keep Dr. doom in the movie but have him be built up as the main villain for a later film and have it where mole man helps doom escape to latveria. 2. More action. One of the biggest criticisms I have with this film was the lack of action. The four should have been fighting more crime and we should have seen more action, and if mole man was the main villain, they should have fought his monsters that he would bring out to take over the city. And 3. Have the story focus on Ben Grimm. The thing was truly the best part of the film and I think it be better along with the origin story, have Ben go through a character arc where he learns people should love him for who he is on the inside, not the outside. His story in this film was the best part and I think if they put the focus on that, it would have been so much better. If they done that, then they could have made 3 more sequels. And yes this movie series should have had 4 films in total as I think it would have been fitting and each on focusing on each member. With this one focusing on the thing with everything I just described, the next one being rise of the silver surfer and focusing on Johnny learning humility and protecting the world from evil is more important than fame. Also galactus should have been a giant man like in the comics not a cloud monster, the 3rd one focusing on sue where she learns their lives will never be normal and learns to embrace it along with the people that care about her as they help black panther (since he was originally pitch to be in the 3rd fantastic four film) stop a war between wakanda and namor and Atlantis cause by klaw, and the 4th one where it focuses on reed and doom’s relationship where then Dr. Doom is the main villain and is completely like his comic book counterpart. Thats how I would do it if I was in charge of the fantastic four films.
I swear if you look closely at the Fantastic Four by Tim Story in today's standards it's almost close to blueprint Marvel Studios Style. From the late 2010s.
These movies kinda suffered from spiderman movie effect since it had too many parallels with em. But the marvel movies at the time were a pretty good adaptations of comic version of heroes.
How can this be considered the worst marvel movie when films like Elektra, the Marvels, X-men the last stand, X-men origins Wolverine and Morbius exist?
Thank you for covering this movie.I really enjoyed this movie when it came out and I still do. FF was always my favorite comic as a kid and I was so happy when they made this. Is it perfect? No, but I don't have to have a perfect movie to enjoy myself. The actors were great and the feel for family was there. Torch and Thing bickering and playing pranks I remember from the comics and it was fun to watch it. Evens and Chiklis were the best and McMahon was a great "bad guy" So not perfect but a very good origin story and solid acting overall does not a bad movie make. Sorry critics, you are wrong on this one. It felt like the comics to me. Not as campy as the "66 Batman but just some fun and serious threat to bring them all together. I can't wait for the MCU version as I hope to see even better movie then. Have fun just watching this one peoples.

Fan4stic is not only the worst marvel movie but is at the top of the list of one of the worst movies ever made. This movie is Godfather 2 amazing compared to fan4stic
Far from it, it’s fun & entertaining. There are plenty of superhero films many fans consider to be masterpieces that I think are worse than this such as Logan, The Batman, Black Panther & so on.
I always loved this movie and always thought it got too much hate. I think it’s the live-action adaptation that’s closest to the source material. I don’t even have high hopes for MCU Fantastic Four. Pretty much everything done with the Fantastic Four alone (not with team-ups like with the Avengers or Civil War in the comics) has been negatively received in all of the mediums (movies, shows, games, and probably comics). I don’t think the MCU can “save” it either, especially considering that not everything in the MCU has been wonderful, even before Endgame. I’m just waiting for the new adaptation to come out and fail, so I can roll on the floor laughing and screaming at everyone “I told you so.”
This *is* the first outing of The Fantastic Four. a stated, Roger Corman’s film was never released. It was never intended to be released. It can’t be counted. I can think of several examples of Marvel films that are worse than this one. It’s not even in the bottom five. This film was made by 20th Century FOX, not 20th Century Studios. 20th Century Studios didn’t yet exist. “Marvel has always done way too much leg work...” You do realize that it was FOX that made this movie because they owned the rights and Marvel didn’t yet even have its own studio, right? Marvel didn’t make a movie at all until 2008. No, we have *no* expectations of Kevin Feige and the MCU. Not anymore. I’m not lore expert but I think Latveria is Doom’s country, not town.
This is no more or less silly or campy as any Thor movie. But i think this Fantastic Four is smarter. Chris Evans feels like he was born to play Johnny Storm. He was always meant to be a class clown. It was Doom that disappointed most fans. But even then, his costume still looks great. Reed has gray hair from the shock of what happened. Its been known to happen.
Side note - I don't like the look of Reed Richards with the beard and mustache. When the MCU puts out their FF film I hope that they'll keep Reed clean shaven. Just my opinion, of course.
I’m going to be honest here. I don’t hate this movie at all I think it’s very entertaining and the actors do a great job embodying their comic book counterparts. Especially Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans. The only thing that doesn’t work is Doctor Doom. They really screwed him up. His costume design and his revamped origin which was just a carbon copy of Norman Osborn from the first Spider-Man. Doom’s design was much cooler in ROTSS.
I hated this movie with a passion back then but after that shitfest in 2015, it’s still bad but I don’t hate it nearly as much and can appreciate the cheese to it.
Worst Marvel movie? This is not that bad to be THE worst one. I can give 5 movies that are worse. I would nominate; # Electra (2005) oh same year (!) # Fan4stick (2015) # Captain Marvel (2019) # Captain America (1990) # Dark Phoenix (2019) NOTE: Michael Chiklis was a perfect casting of The Thing.
Worst?? Not even close. The 2015 version? Maybe. But certainly not this misunderstood and underrated blockbuster of a movie. It's as fun as any Thor movies these days and much smarter
7:45 Who does your research? X-Men came out in 2000 and FF came out in 2005. James Marsden and Rebecca Romijn both starred in X-Men and X2 way before before FF premiered. Is this the same person who thought Methos on Highlander the Series was pronounced as “METOSS”?
(Reads Title) Uh no this isn’t the worst marvel movie (Fant4stic takes that place) I feel like this movie and it’s sequel get too much hate, it’s definitely not the worst Marvel movie, sure it doesn’t have a lot of fight scenes but at least the main four had chemistry (and good chemistry). I’m one of the few people that thinks this movie is underrated and I’m not afraid to say it, this movie and Rise of the Silver Surfer are two of my favorite movies.
Here's my live-action FF pitch: Release it as a limited series, and set it in the Cold War era '60s (when the original comics debuted). Season 1 is a rotating collection of their early villains (Mole Man, Namor, etc.). The season builds to a Doctor Doom story for the finale. Season 2 continues with Doom and others, and leads up to Silver Surfer/Galactus.
We could have had good Fantastic Four movies, but they were not meant to be. Chris Columbus tried making one, which had a good script. There was also a good script from the early 2000s by Doug Petrie. Also, the earlier draft of the 2015 film was apparently really good
I honestly liked this movie. Never understood why so many people had mean things to say about it. Then again, I loved X3: Last Stand as well. Maybe the problem's with me. 🙂
I recently rewatched this movie ,of course there are some weird scenes but for me it is one of the best marvel movies .one movies i dont like is the spider verse anime movies.
Well, just having Jessica Alba in the film made every man on Earth want to watch it when she was one of the most talked about "hot chicks" at the time lol. The first film may not fit the current MCU but neither did the first couple Hulks unless we do the MultiVerse scenario. Still, before the others came out, I was just happy that I had an action packed film that was fun. So it is appreciated and I wouldn't say that the 1st F4 was worse than the second. Michael Chiklis feels most like Ben Grimm, The Thing.
0:25 It's not that they didn't figure out what to do with them, it's that they literally couldn't, thanks to the movie rights being at Fox. If they had never sold those rights back in late 90's or so, the FF would've probably been there since phase one and they'd take up Guardians' spot as the link to all the space characters.
I really enjoyed this movie. When it first came out it was the first time that I had ever seen Kerry Washington so since then it's always been hard for me to realize that she's not actually blind! Rise of the Silver Surfer was definitely sub par to this. Don't get me started on the horrible way they tried to show Galactus. And I have seen several sections of that "never released" FF movie. It really IS as bad as you think it would be.
I think the movie could've been better if they didn't force Dr. Doom into the movie, and have them fight some monster or alien that's loose in New York. Then instead have Doom already established and ruler of Latveria in some sort of post credit scene. Explore his background and relationship with Reed Richards in a sequel.
Let me just say that I saw this movie as a kid, and loved it. As an adult I haven't revisited this movie as I've adapted a One Movie One View policy growing up. But I enjoyed this video. Brings back memories.
As of this date, the Incredibles remains the best feature length Fantastic Four film ever produced. All Disney has to do is bake some of that into the MCU and it should be a critical hit
Yes! Someone again on UA-cam covering my favorite Marvel movie and favorite movie of 2005! You were really creative with title, weren't you? Sarcasm. I don't bash you in particular, UA-camrs always use lazy titles (knowing it's not actually true). But for the sake of the argument, IMO Elektra (2005) is more boring. And unlike the sequel FF: RoS (2007), Jessica Alba still plays a scientist in this movie.
How long has it been since the FF was even successful as a comic book? I'm 48 and I've never seen a time when they were that relevant. I was a kid in the 80s when Miller and Moore and all that hit. The X-Men, Wolverene in particular blew up, then all through the 90s, and up until now, the FF have never really gotten over. They've been in the middle of some important stories, particularly Reed Richards. It's like anything else, if someone does something interesting with them, it could be good.
This movie was light hearted fun. (Remember that?) Great overall casting and Chris Evans was brilliant as Johnny Flame/Storm. Who wouldn’t have fun with those powers? Flame on! 🔥🔥🔥
This movie is exactly what it needed to be in terms of overall tone and character. If it had been less 'comic book' it would have been too close to X-2 (and for me that is a pretty high bar). If it had been darker (like the last film) it would have been too close to Batman Begins (released the previous month) and may not have compared well to it. They might have been able to mid-ground it a bit, but sometimes you just need a big fun movie

I miss 2005 and being a teen 😢
I love the "modern" look of Doctor Doom in this movie. Best Doom look so far.
God no comic doom is perfect and needs no changes
Worst? i dont think so, if there is one worst Fantastic Four film, the winner is the 2015 movie.
The scene where Ben grins and says Flame On Johnny as he's circling Doom lives rent free in my head
Hardly the worst. Both the Corman FF movie which you referenced and the 2015 FF were worse. This movie was fun and appropriate for its time.
Let’s see what the MCU do with FF before we all start taking the piss out of this one.
yeah
Something being bad doesn't make something else good Fant4stick sucks doesn't make this movie good
I have been waiting for over a decade to see a fight between The Thing & The Hulk.
Fantastic Four is literally better than 95% of Marvel Phase 4
Doesn't make it good though
Side note - I don't like the look of Reed Richards with the beard and mustache. When the MCU puts out their FF film I hope that they'll keep Reed clean shaven. Just my opinion, of course.
I don't care what everyone said about this movie and its sequel, they'll forever be one of my favorite movies of all time.
I knew how awful the live-action TOM & JERRY was gonna be when I found out it was gonna be directed by Tim Story
I recently re watched FF4 (2005) and the film is far from perfect but it has a odd charm to it in a good way.
I like both Jessica Alba and Chris Evan as Sue storm and Johnny storm
I’d still love to see a film based in the early 60’s….
Unpopular opinion i love this film, the casting is amazing...especially
Ben
Johnny
Reed
Victor
I hated this movie with a passion back then but after that shitfest in 2015, it’s still bad but I don’t hate it nearly as much and can appreciate the cheese to it.
The 2015 version is much worse overall.
💯💯💯
Definitely! Glad I never saw it
Way worse! In fact, some of the stuff in the current run of the MCU makes even that version look like Oscar gold!
Worst Marvel movie? This is not that bad to be THE worst one. I can give 5 movies that are worse.
I would nominate;
# Electra (2005) oh same year (!)
# Fan4stick (2015)
# Captain Marvel (2019)
# Captain America (1990)
# Dark Phoenix (2019)
NOTE: Michael Chiklis was a perfect casting of The Thing.
This was great, it's way better than what they did 10 years later!
guilty pleasure and no where near the worse.
Agreed
Agreed! Could’ve been better? Yes! The worst?! Nowhere near! Go see fantastic four 2015 or better yet anything from the current MCU!
@@EVGriffinJr true lol
@@EVGriffinJr wasnt a fan of rise of silver surfer though silver surfer was the best thing about that film.
The worst Marvel movie is Howard the Duck. What is worse than that?
The best Fantastic Four movie is The Incredibles
Being able to stare at Jessica Alba for a couple hours made this movie an enjoyable watch.
oh yeah
Ironically, I think she looks her absolute worst in these films.
@@SumDumGy That's quite the complement for her!
@@greenman5255 I don’t see how it’s a compliment. I think she look terrible in these films. She can’t pull off blonde to save her life.
This F4 is WAY better than the 2015 F4.
I really enjoyed this movie for what it was, would love to see you guys cover the sequel. Cheers 🥂
It's not as faithful to the comics as the unreleased 1994 movie, but it's not nearly as bad as Fant4stic.
It's just painfully average.
I dont know about that. Chris Evans was almost too perfect as Johnny Storm
@@LukeLovesRose so I'm guessing you'd be excited if he ever does return as the character in a crossover (he confirmed he'd do it)
@@CaptainCat101 Yeah.
I don't think it's the worst Marvel movie. I would probably vote for Howard the duck, Ghost Rider 2, or Punisher with Dolth Lundren.
I used to have this on DVD and watched it all the time
Compared to the reboot
I think this fantastic four is Good
They nailed the family aspect
Worst?? Not even close. The 2015 version? Maybe. But certainly not this misunderstood and underrated blockbuster of a movie. It's as fun as any Thor movies these days and much smarter
I hope Ben Grimm looks as real as this in the MCU.
This movie is definitely better than the sequel.
(Reads Title)
Uh no this isn’t the worst marvel movie (Fant4stic takes that place) I feel like this movie and it’s sequel get too much hate, it’s definitely not the worst Marvel movie, sure it doesn’t have a lot of fight scenes but at least the main four had chemistry (and good chemistry).
I also wish Alan Rickman were still alive, as his voice would be perfect for Doom.
Great idea!
First two F4 movies were not this bad. They were decent movies.
Saw these when I was 14 and love them to this today.
I only saw it for Jessica alba...ngl. friends and I saw both in theaters
She was soooo hot in the film.
Wow! Can’t believe an American was able to get Ioan Gruffudd’s name correct. Top marks to you!
1:33 It was the best advice from any superhero. Heck, even the modern superman doesn't care about this thing.
A movie with no STORY was directed by a guy named TIM STORY
Never been a fan of the comic books but I find this version and the cast the most spot on.
John Krasinski's appearance in Doctor Strange was divisive?? I thought most people thought that was one of the highlights of the film...
Let me just say that I saw this movie as a kid, and loved it. As an adult I haven't revisited this movie as I've adapted a One Movie One View policy growing up. But I enjoyed this video. Brings back memories.
No and by a long shot. There are way worse MCU movies than this one and not just from Phase 4.
I saw both in the Theaters. I loved them both. I also loved Daredevil (the directors cut) .
Actually after all the pile of sht Marvel has put out lately this movie is become a master piece, who knew lmfao.
