Been a while since I watched you guys. I just watched all three Black Sails videos, and I had forgotten how excited and animated Svein gets. Looks like a fun game, and I also enjoyed the line sailing you did at the begining, good job guys.
We are talking about "Yatzee king" and "voodoo magic" here. At times some of these guys are extremely lucky with their rolls (regardless of the dices being rolled)
Have to admit that almost didn't watch this because of the time length. But you guys are so funny I gotta watch til the end! It's like watching the French guys from Monty Python's The Holy Grail playing!?!? Lol!
Entanglement happens if either ship fails the skill test, not both. Both failing is for collisions. Also, you can only attempt a boarding action after your final move.
In turn 3 the brigs would not be able to fire as she bears as they already activated in that turn. page 33 First part of During your opponents activation states "If a ship has not yet activated"
I love your videos and know that you were just learning the game at this time, but one mistake is at 24:15 when Hakan shoots his chaser guns and then does an initial broadside. If you check the rules, you can only use the initial broadside if no other shots are taken in the same turn. A little later, when Svein's lead ship moves, one of Hakan's ship use fire-as-she-bears to destroy it, but the rules-as-written do not allow this. (Only a ship that hasn't yet activated can use fire-as-she-bears in the rules-as-written.) Note, however, that many people use the "house rule" that fire-as-she-bears is always an option, so this wasn't too bad. Finally, by either set of rules, the black smoke does not carry over to the next turn. (The use of black smoke is merely to track that a ship shot before activation; white smoke would indicate that the ship had already activated.) [I have to admit to giggling when Svein says "now we're playing by the rules" at 47:45 .] For your interest: another "house rule" is that a ship that is "destroyed" by a combination of cannon and musket fire doesn't actually sink; it surrenders, instead. This can be is important, because having the first ship in a line suddenly surrender will cause serious problems for those that are following. It's a fun rule to add if you ever start playing again. You also need to re-read the rules on entanglement, if you haven't already. In brief, both ships must pass the +2 skills test; if they both pass, then nothing happens, including no moving of either ship on the table. [There are "house rules" for this, too....] And I have to say, rotating the wind in wrong direction at 1:34:00 really changed the game (to Svein's advantage). With all that said, I really enjoyed this, especially the realism of the two lines of ships making a close pass (and chewing each other up) before breaking formation.
@RedKing Warlord Games steped into crap when they decided to call their games historical without any regards to historical realities. If I'm going to play a game with a pt boat staring down and sinking cruissars then I might as well just play Warhammer, at least Warhammer is consistent withing it own game system. Completely imiganiary so there really is no room for arguement. Can a 3" gun maybe penetrate a cruissar at 5000 yards ? Can a Sherman 75mm penetrate the front of a Tiger II at say 1000 meters? Here math and science can answer our questions and answer our rules questions.
In the next battlereport´coming very soon there will be multiple 3rd rates from the British and the French navies. The battlement is the "Waterworld" mat from www.deepcutstudios.com/
I turned my L’Orient into the USS Independence for my US Fleet she’s a 1st rate that was built after the war 1812 but mine was built a little earlier in history
You guys are great; and I learn a lot about Black Seas Tactics!
Love your black seas battle reports! Very comic...feels like we’re hanging out down the pub! More please!
That was awesome, best batreps ever, its like watching a British satirical comedy.

It was rollung like a weighted die, that was a lot of damage by muskets.

Sailing in line is standard combat tactics. Falling out of line was almost sure death, then this Warlords twisted version of history..

In turn 5, Sweyn's frigate moves 5" but shouldn't move only 3" as becalmed?
Just move to the top of the table and continue
37:45 :)))
