The scheme benefited companies that fulfilled their obligation and penalised those that didn't. It's the ones that didn't that cost all consumer. Since then the Tories have changed the system and replaced ROCs with CfDs. The high bill costs in the last couple of years have been due to gas prices not renewables. In fact my bill this month is the lowest it's been for 4 years despite more renewables. This is largely due to stability in the gas supply after years of instability. It's immaterial how big the house is, it's how well insulated that house is, and most homes would need thousands spending on insulation upgrades for heat pumps to be effective.
I had a quote just to find out some facts, they quoted £9200 after the £5000 grant was taken off. Nobody came round to look at my house but I was assured my existing radiator’s were ok and thats why the quote was so cheap. Furthermore I was told that 18 degrees was the best I could expect to get from it. The only way they make any sense is in new builds with underfloor heating. Retro fitting is pointless.
I fit heat pumps as part of my job. They are effective and are getting better all the time, but it does depend on how well the system is designed and fitted. Yes it's true that they work better with underfloor heating as the output temperature needed is lower than is needed for radiators. You have to be sensible about it and temperatures of 18-20°c are reasonable and easily achievable for these systems. Pretty much all of the systems that we fit have a COP, (coefficient of performance) that average about 3-3.5 : 1. By this I mean that for every kilowatt of power used these systems are producing between 3 and 3.5 kilowatts of heat , we have some that are operating at over 5 : 1. The thing is getting the pumps to generate more heat drops the COP. Norway uses a lot of heat pumps and they are a relatively cool country, our biggest problem with the heat pumps is the cost of our electricity, which is the most expensive in Europe and that is down to the government and the net zero crowd. We need to invest in nuclear power not wind farms and solar farms where the vast majority of the subsidies are going abroad because they're owned by foreign investors.
@@patrickhosking613 You make some good points but what I found odd was that my quote was made without anyone coming to my house. I was asked if I had double rads which I do and it was therefore concluded that they wouldn’t need upgrading even though I had heard most do, I had the thought that had I given the go ahead this would have changed.Furthermore if we are sitting watching tv in the middle of winter my wife certainly would not consider 18C adequate. Consequently I won’t be changing anytime soon.
It's a money siphoning (theft) scam. We the Australian people made the money and will pay off any debt incurred by our government borrowing money to push this idiotic agenda.
Unfortunately Zoe is living in a dream world. We are currently pouring vast amounts of money and resources into this farce and it is making very little difference. Heat pumps are just way too expensive and don't fit our variable climate well or our old poorly insulated housing stock. If only they would have a more rational approach helping people to insulate their homes better rather than subsidising insanely expensive heat pumps. Similarly it would have been better to encourage the use of hybrid vehicles rather than EVs because it is something where the technology is there to actually save people money and at the same time reduce the amount of fossil fuels consumed. This is to say nothing of the fact that even if we could all afford all these green upgrades there aren't enough engineers and technicians to design and install it all and there aren't enough raw materials like copper to make them in the first place.
Hybrid vehicles are as much of a farce as the rest of the net zero ideology. Where I work, they are currently replacing, with much government coercion it must be said, 65 - 70mpg diesel Astras with MG hybrids that are giving us 27mpg. And this is saving the planet apparently.
@@stewartkingsley I already said that in the OP, we should be investing in making sure existing heating systems are running as efficiently as possible and that insulation is as good as practical on homes. This would be a far better use of tax payer money that huge subsidies on heat pumps and would reduce peoples bills at the same time as reducing overall gas consumption more than expensive heat pumps for the few. Hybrid cars rather than EVs are a much better solution because they cost less to produce both economically and environmental impact. Money wasted on EV development could have been used to make ICE cars vastly more efficient at minimal extra purchase price and needed minimal infrastructure changes for charging. It's a pragmatic rather than dogmatic approach and is actually realisable rather than a pipe dream.

A recent report has stated that globally, over the next 10 years, we would have to mine (using fossil fuelled plant)115% more copper than has been mined all over the world since copper mining started......and that's just for EVs. An EV uses 3x more copper than and ICE vehicle, and this is before you take into account other things like infrastructure upgrades to meet the demands of things like wind farms, solar panels, battery storage, AI computer processing, heat pumps......the list goes on. Net Zero is a fantasy!
The EV scam is to force cars off the road.. Have you heard of a material called aluminium? It's used as a conductor as well as copper. Most high voltage grid cables and HVDC cables use aluminium. Wind has a low energy density and wind power is centuries out of date. Wind farms only exist due to massive taxpayer funded subsidies. They make no economic sense. They are a colossal waste of taxpayers money and resources (including coal and oil). Solar panels are only useful as a supplement in sunny areas between the 35th parallels. They make no economic sense in cloudy upper latitude areas such as the UK. The carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels are largely beneficial. Benefits include greening of the planet with increased agricultural yields (main effect) reduced winter heating costs, fewer deaths from hypothermia and postponement of the next glacial maximum. This is especially so in cold areas such as the UK. Net Zero is economically destructive delusional insanity. It needs to be urgently abandoned and the most economical energy resources available need to be utilised.

What infuriates me is that the heat pumps don’t actually work.
The heat pumps are fine for a two bedroom bungalow, but for a normal size house, they are simply not powerful enough.
It's a money siphoning (theft) scam. We the Australian people made the money and will pay off any debt incurred by our government borrowing money to push this idiotic agenda.
For the world elites.
Go on then, let us know your better alternatives. Obviously you have a better alternative to heat pumps and all the other things that being developed.

The EV scam is to force cars off the road.. WEF agenda wants no one travelling or having cars, easier to control that way.. those who can afford them will get them then they will ban fuel driven ones.. plus dont forget the EV sont last forever.. unlike engine driven cars which can be repaired with odd parts and scrap etc the EV battery has only so many charges then needs replacing.. Have you heard of a material called aluminium? It's used as a conductor as well as copper. Most high voltage grid cables and HVDC cables use aluminium. Get on another bandwagon if I was you.... One that has some legs, the vast bulk of people now, are waking up to this "green" scam!
@Richard482 no its not. Its been shown that CO2 concentrations increase AFTER climatic warming

Study the physics of Venus, an atmosphere that is thick with carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and many other greenhouse gasses.... The surface temperature is hundreds of degrees and no water, at all! Physics is undefeated and is coming to the Earth.
We’ve never been asked whether we want this or not! It is totally ludicrous!
Climate change for you not for me. That's our politicians attitude 😂
Do you want food, do you want to remain alive?
Same as the invasion.
The concern about the inability to track government funds is a valid one. It's essential for governments to maintain transparency and accountability in their financial transactions, especially when it comes to public funds. Without proper tracking mechanisms, there is a risk of misuse or mismanagement of public money, which can have serious consequences for the economy and public trust in the government. they will rob us blind as they already have

Call me a cynic but I suspect net zero will be cancelled by any potential upcoming international conflict but things will be built back better after :)
Built back broken
Hope so
Because there will be anything to rebuild after WW3.
Well if you are right, then such a conflict will accelerate climate change, especially the bit about rebuilding.

Politicians are great at spending other people’s money until it runs out.
They NEVER feel the consequences of their stupid actions. They always walk away unscathed and leave a trail of devastation behind them.
The Weather As Always Changed Since History Begun, There is No Difference Now.
Why would anyone trust politicians.
The day when Global Warming was changed to Climate Change, was the day I stopped listening to the scaremongers.
Both terms have been used for decades. It's called the IPCC and not the IPGW.
I bet your hoping the UK isn't covered in rain all this summer again, as that would indicate climate change.
That was necessary when the world stopped playing ball and flately refused to get hotter for nearly a decade.
The term climatic change appeared in the title of a scientific publication in 1955. The term global warming did not appear until 1975.
Pollster Frank Luntz advised the Bush administration that the phrase "global warming" should be abandoned in favour of "climate change", which he called a "less frightening" phrase than the former.
In 1988, the IPCC, not the IPGW was formed.
It's not just the cost of net zero, it's impossible with the technology we have now we are being lied to on a grand scale
So even if its not possible to get to net zero, wouldn't you rather live in a cleaner, quieter environment?
@@ralpharmsby8040 no it will bankrupt the country we all want a clean environment
The sky is not falling it never was.
I have a heat pump, it uses a lot of electricity and when the outside temperature gets to freezing point it only produces cool temperatures and we must use our gas furnace to achieve anything close to a comfortable temperature. If you live in a cold climate ( like Canada) good luck when it gets to 10 below or on those 30 to 40 below days. Not to mention what will happen when the power grid goes down trying to keep up with all the heat pumps and electric vehicles charging. Then throw in a grid trying to rely on solar panels covered in snow and wind turbines frozen solid or without wind. This is an insanely stupid idea on every front. Cheap reliable energy versus expensive unreliable energy, is this so difficult to grasp?
I am an electrician and I do some work for a builder who had an air source heat pump fitted to his own house, he did more than the minimum requested insulation upgrades, he has got underfloor heating installed on both floors which is more efficient for heat pumps, it's just an average sized four bed detached house and last winter it was costing him over £500 a month to heat his home, he ended up turning it off and got a wood burner installed.
To put it into context my 80s built 4 bed detached with a condensing gas boiler was costing us less than £100 per month to heat, we also cook with gas.
Even with our electric cost added to the gas we still never paid more than £180 a month combined.
Obviously something wrong with the house or the installation.
heat pumps are shite. i had one in my last house. it was expensive to run and rubbish. don't even work when it's cold...
"Do our bit to save planet"
Does everyone just repeat popular lines these days without really thinking about what is coming out of their mouth?!
"Doing your bit" will neither kill nor save this planet. It was here before we came along, and it'll be here long after we've gone.

But theirs are essential.
