- Hi I'm Dennis with wiseautotools.com. If you're removing a broken glow plug in a diesel engine, we have a glowplug extraction tool that can be used over the fender without removing the cylinder head. The extraction set can be used on VW's, Sprinters, Duramax and really any glowplugs that have an 8 or 10 mm thread size. *Note this kit is designed for European models like VW's and Sprinters, however some of our customer's have reported that they have used this kit successfully on the Duramax Diesel as well. This kit has been used in the UK for many years where they have been dealing with this problem more simply because they have more diesels on the road compared to the USA. As the video on our B900-0199 product listing shows, the kit includes tools to safely remove broken glow plugs without removing the head.
Since the repair is done right over the fender it saves time and money. There are taps included which are used to chase the threads for the glowplugs. It's important to know that if you're working on a Duramax the thread pitch size is a 1.25mm not a 1.0 like included the kit. The rest of the kit works the same regardless of the thread pitch. When the broken glow plug has been removed properly, the threads will not be damaged.

This kit helps save a lot of time. I would only recommend someone with adequate mechanical experience tackle this job even with the kit. This is not what we consider a DIY project. We don't have a video showing the job being done on the vehicle but you can get an idea on how it's done by watching the video on our product listing. We sell both the B900-0199 and the W900-0199 which are the same tool as the video shows just different brands. Both have good feedback. We encourage our customer reviews on our site.

This kit is actually designed for the Sprinter 5 cylinder. Many guys have used them on other vehicles too though like the VW and Duramax. Here's the one best for the Duramax (linked below) because the mandrels are slightly larger on the W900-0199 compared to the B900-0199. Guys say that sometimes on Duramax if the glowplug is not stuck too badly just drilling with the drill bit holder and the specialized step drill bit can sometimes remove them. Other times the puller will need to be used with a spacer under one end of the puller like a 1/4" socket or something similar sized to even the force from the puller. wiseautotools.com/win-tools-w900-0199-broken-glow-plug-removal-tool/
Our kit now includes a free M10x1.25 thread chaser. Oh and beware of the cheap Chinese kits online that are basically junk! We've purchased some on eBay to do quality checks and the quality was horrible. Weak tooling, off-centered puller housings etc. The B900-0199 is very high quality and ours includes the Duramax thread chaser and an additional puller screw that is a little bigger than what comes in the kit. So that way you have a couple of different options in case the glow plug housing is a little too big for the puller screws that comes in the kt. but I wana ask that if we drill inside the glow plug whole. keeping it center then what happens if the small glow plugs particals get inside the engine head ?
I have a Mercedes c220 Cdi 2002.

The pdf instructions are linked on the product description. No guide just piloted bits which are smaller on the end. The debris should mostly be encapsulated in the glowplug.
