Canson XL is notorious for tearing up when you use something highly wet on it.....Karin Markers are amazing watercolor type markers. you should try them on heavier weighted paper.

Huh never had that problem and I’ve been using them for years that’s pretty interesting! Maybe it’s the type of paper being used I only use the Canson XL mixed media.
@@suspiciouslysollux590 Yeah it depends what technique you use and what media. Certain markers bead more, but XL (the one she had) does tear up easily compared to some other brands.

I so appreciate the concept sketching process and watching how much you erase, correct and rework things. I feel like this part is often removed or truncated from art videos and it makes budding artists feel less alone if they also need a trial and error process or erase a lot. It's little stuff like that that can help a person's self esteem. Thank you, Rin!

they are really pricey though
You can get the exact same effect with any markers as you can with Chameleon markers... Use them the same as this, touch the tips (hahaha) then they can blend or use a colourless blender to get the faded effect.

Karin markers are good for brushlettering/calligraphy- there is a lot of ink so you can easily blend colors into one another without a blender- that's why they tear up the page. I actually love them for lettering but they are very inky and water based. I wouldn't really use them for illustration though unless you water them down like watercolor. They are great for that too! That's definitely not the right paper for them though haha😂 Love the video👏🏻💛

It's weird that it's not the right paper for the markers, though. I mean, I thought these types of boxes would be cohesive, and this really isn't :(
@sarahtaylor I have been searching for this comment. I have the 63 set of pro markers and the 10 deco brush markers and they are incredible! They are definitely not the best for illustration. They are a totally different set of markers once you use them on good quality watercolor paper. I'm a calligrapher and they are my Holy grail markers, but it is cool to see them from a different media perspective.

I do that.. I keep losing my kneaded erasers so I have a lot. Then during a cleaning spree of my room, I found all (or maybe most) of them and now I have a huge ball of kneaded erasers. I LOVE IT.

Warning please listen ⚠️ Hey everyone I know this has nothing to do with the video but I wanted to warn you all about a challenge called the momo challenge on UA-cam in which even little kid videos like pepa pig contains it starts off alright till the middle when a character momo tells the adance to commit sucide or to leave the stove on while everyone is sleeping or they will kill them this makes me sad that someone is doing this but I wanted to warn you guys to
1) teach you kids not to listen to theses
2) watch what your kids watch
3) watch the whole video before your child does
4) report momo videos to UA-cam
5) and do anything else you feel is good for your child
6) it’s creepy but look into it

It all depends on what your preferred medium is and what you have experience with. I feel like most of the problem she had was because of the paper they provided, the wetness of the paint in the pens made it break apart, which is the fault of the paper being too thin. If it had been thicker I'm sure it would have worked a lot better.

I honestly don't know hOw happy I get when Rin uploads! I've been watching your videos for so long and your videos have improved so much!!! Ahhh
you need to use the correct paper, the paper makes all the difference. Sad they sent an incompatible paper. markers like these can be pelleted on smooth plastic and use a waterbrush or brush with water to paint with them. or use a waterbrush/paintbrush to spread them out. HOWEVER you need a watercolour, or mixed media or similar paper otherwise it just doesn't work well AT ALL! I don't have these exact pens however so I am guessing a bit... A smoother grained mixed media or watercolour (hot pressed) paper is the ideal paper for things like these. Yeah the wrong paper does not even work and just disintegrates....... I'm assuming they are waterbased markers if they aren't then I also do not know how to use them.
Yes I love them for hand lettering but for illustration you'd have to water them down for illustration probably. And it is definitely the WRONG paper. 😊

Yeah, I had a hard time with these supplies, but I did enjoy using the green and teal for calligraphy, as I ended up with the same... unfortunate... color palette. I wish I got red, and I actually found that you were having the same issues as me. So I’m glad it wasn’t just my lack of experience with brush pens. As someone who does calligraphy and uses brush pens all the time it was nice to see someone use them in a different way.
These would work better on watercolor paper. These are basically watercolor markers.

The Karin markers are especially prized by hand-letterers. They lay down a particularly lovely gradient in a single stroke and the tips are perfect for the thin/thick lines. But with lettering, it’s usually one swipe, using the angle and pressure of the tip for your line thickness and don’t go back and forth over it, so I’ve not seen the paper pilling before. There are lots of videos demoing them here on UA-cam. I’ve not seen any videos of them being used for coloring or illustration though, so it surprised me to see them in this pack. I LOVE your videos and your art makes me so happy! Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your tremendous gifts with us.

Oh boy, yellow would be a tough color. since it blends in with white and black paper pretty easily. that could be interesting.
The Karen markers are suppose to be like watercolor pencils but in a brush marker form! I love your illustrations and vids. There so calming lol
I LOVE brush pens!!! Those two Sakura brush pens are from different lines, and I did a big brush pen showdown on my channel where I was actually super surprised at how nice that black Sakura one was. Compared to my memories of having utterly destroyed the regular Pigma brush pen, and how its pigmentation wasn't as black as I wanted? The new one is definitely an improvement over my memories.
Those markers don't look like they'd make me happy..... so thanks for taking one for the doodle team and letting me know I should stay far away!
