Hey everyone! I now have a brand new, expanded video on using Posca pens over acrylics that provides more helpful info! Watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/ICGJt1_RNGI/v-deo.html
Thank you, thank you thank you for this information! I’m just about to start painting With acrylics, and I ordered the Posca pens For embellishment. Thank goodness I saw your video!
Going to use your demo with my 8th grade art class as we start acrylic painting on canvas paper. Thanks for a wonderful instruction without too much talking and stopping.
Why would anyone not watch the painting process part?? I think it's fascinating to watch your paintings come to life. Another great video, thank you for posting this. It's also nice to see a quick glimpse of what's going on on your palette.
Aw, thanks Ryan! I think certain people just want to skim through and get to the explanation, so I was making it easier for them to jump to that part. Glad you enjoyed it!!!
This is exactly what I needed in my life. I wasn’t sure how to use paint pens on my work and was growing frustrated with the outcome and waste of products. This is perfect, many thanks.
I love the way the wheels pop out when you highlight around the spokes. Looks like there are pieces of colored plastic built into the wheels. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Anastasia. Some great tips. I have bought paint pens but I had heard how paint pens can smear when you varnish, so I haven't used them yet. Therefore, your tip on spray varnishing first is much appreciated. By the way, I love your painting. Super gorgeous! 💓 Thanks again, Alison Hood from Western Australia 🥰💕
I like you're paintings a lot! Thanks for showing everything including your secret 😉 tip! Maybe using a sponge roller would make a thin even layer of the matte medium.
Hello Anastasia, this is yet another very useful video. I have POSCA pens and used them before, but yes, it was a struggle over the previous paint. I will try your method next time. I super appreciate your videos. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! Check out my newer, expanded video on using Posca Pens - there is a chapter in there specifically about varnishing: ua-cam.com/video/ICGJt1_RNGI/v-deo.html
The reason I coat it with matte medium is to make the surface less glossy, which helps the paint pen to adhere. So, gloss varnish would be the opposite of that :) But you can apply gloss varnish OVER the pen (just be careful not to smear your pen drawing).
Hello:) nice video! I suppose you can do it the same with glossy medium(?). Also, would it be the same using fixative on top ? And last question, have you ever used fixative over water based student markers ?
No, the reason I apply matte medium is to make the surface LESS glossy, which helps paint pen to adhere. Once the piece is finished, I spray it with a coat of water-based varnish, and then brush on a top coat of gloss varnish. I'm not familiar with water based student markers.
Hi Anastasia, I just now subscribed to your channel. I am a painter too and have been painting for many years, as a hobby. I appreciate this tutorial very much, thank you. I had a question though, what if I make a mistake with the posca pen, how do I erase it? Do I just paint over it?
Do you ever use acrylic paint on mixed media paper? I'm wondering why more people don't do it. Im using a 184 lb Strathmore paper and that acrylic paint is so smooth on it.
I like paining on canvas because it doesn't have to be framed under glass. Anything on paper would have to be displayed under glass or plexi. But, it is great to use whatever you love!
@@AnastasiaMakArt One more thing...I tried acrylic on wood gesso board from Hobby Lobby and I really like the way it looks. I think I prefer that even over canvas.
You can try, but it probably won’t adhere very well to glossy surface and will be easier to smear. The point of varnish is to seal your artwork, so all the painting elements should be under the coat of varnish, not on top of it. Thanks for enjoying my work!
@@AnastasiaMakArt thanks for the reply! My current painting requires golden paint pen strokes on top. So If i do them below varnish it will get smudged off im afraid. Or shall I go with posca golden markers? Whats your thought?
@@Gayathri-Arts metallic acrylic pens are very different from non-metallic colors. Posca metallic colors are not that great, they come out looking quite dull. If you want gold strokes, a solvent based pen option should be more effective, such as DecoColor. But I do not know how it interacts with varnishes. Sealing it with oil based spay varnish will probably be your best bet, I highly suggest doing some testing first on a scrap piece of canvas.
@@AnastasiaMakArt thank you so much for your thoughts!! Highly helpful 😊😊.. I have few ideas as well..will try all in a small canvas and will let you know the idea that worked...once again thank you!
I enjoyed that painting and it was helpful, so thank you. One thing though, I preferred the painting BEFORE you did the white paintmarker outlining. Sorry 😢
Thanks for commenting! Everyone has a different taste in art. As for me, I love the addition of paint pen over my work. This painting was created and sold a long time ago, and all these months / years later i continue to enjoy adding paint pen elements to my pieces.

Awesome video. I had the same smearing issue with the black Molotow. Your tip (1st coat spray 2nd coat brush) worked perfectly. Thanks.

Going to try the white marker over the varnish.
great painting! Thank you for this painting trick. What varnish do you recommend when finished with the paint pens?

@AnastasiaMakArt Thank you that is vwry helpful.
Those colours really pop out. Great tip with the matte medium. What type of pen did you use to sign the painting at the end? Just curious 😺
I used a sharpie :) Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you. 😊

You can paint over it to cover up the mistake. Or maybe erase it very quickly with water, before it has dried. It takes a couple seconds to dry.
@@AnastasiaMakArt ok thanks.
Please I want to ask can I paint acrylic marker over acrylic painting without using liquitex medium? Why should I using liquitex before? Thanks.
I sprayed matte gloss by mistake and now I’m wondering can I use my Posca pens on this canvas 😮
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thamk you
Loved watching the painting at the beginning what is the name of the song in the background?

great, I like gessobord a lot (by Ampersand brand) and it sounds like you found a similar product

Can you just use the pens directly on the acrylic paint without using the Mat medium???
You can use paint pens whichever way you prefer. This video simply shares a tip that makes them go on smoother.
❤❤❤
would this method work on a wooden table I want to paint in whimsical patterns ?
Skip to 8:00 you will thank me later.
^^^ Rumor has it, he is still waiting for people to thank him
Is the painting washable when dry?
Not sure I understand the question. Why would you need to wash a painting?
Thank you
What music are you playing? I love it
thanks
Can i paint over posca pens with oil paint?
I don’t see why not, but oil paint will cover up your pen.
Can you do this on wood?
Sure!
Is that the Extra-Fine tip?
Yes! Although, "bullet" tipped Posca pens are nice too :)
I enjoyed that painting and it was helpful, so thank you.
One thing though, I preferred the painting BEFORE you did the white paintmarker outlining. Sorry 😢
