    My 2006 supercharged Mini had a good amount of oil coating inside the intercooler when close to new. Whether boosted or supercharged you will have a lot of oil vapor because of the higher compression.

    You put it on the wrong line it should be on the pcv line at the front right side of valve cover pcv line that's where its losing oil at. Also if you put a gate valve on line you can regulate air flow through the pcv system and slow down oil flow to can

    After watching this video & so many others, I just couldn't get my head round where to attach the can to. Everyone has these brackets and the rear of the engine bay. Then it dawned on me. That's where the alarm sensor goes. So after taking it off, making a little bracket to attach to, it was all done & fitted. Longest part of the job was finding that bracket!!

    these are the items I used to install mine and where I purchased them from:
    @ autozone I purchased 2 items(you can probably get this at pepboys, napa or any chain auto parts outlet) ,2 feet of 5/8" heater hose and one foot of 3/4" heater hose (more than you will actually need)
    @home depot I purchased 1 "apollo"pex barb fittings size 3/4" x 1/2" mnpt male adapters scew# 670750704062 in the plumbing isle you can get 2 if you want (ill explain in a bit) , one 90° hanger , you will just need to drill one hole to attach the catch can as the other are perfectly sized and position already I believe. it's a Simpson Strong-Tie
    ZMAX 18-Gauge Galvanized Steel Angle, item A21Z skew#707392916604 , ace hardware also has this item and cheaper. 99 cents.
    @ pep boys I purchased 2 items (again you can probably get this at most other chain car parts outlet)
    one heater hose connector (not needed if you get 2 pex bard fitting rather than one.)size 5/8" x 3/4" by DORMAN HELP! item #47080 skew#037495470803,and one heater hose elbow 3/4" by DORMAN HELP! item #47063 skew #037495470636 . as for the hose clamps i used ,i purchased a while back at harbor freight a box that contained random sizes so i used that ..now I didn't use 2 barb fitting because I liked the stealth look of the plastic fitting I found after words at pepboys, but remember over time it might get fragile due to the heat under the hood .I also did not use the 90° angle hanger I posted as I made one myself from some scrap metal parts I had and I found that hanger in my parts bin after, but I did check it and it works perfect...hope this helps someone and thanks bimmer dude I used your video as my guide for the catch can and ideas..

    Nice work. As a owner of Peugeot 207 1.6THP (same engine) the real problem with carbon valves came from the rear pcv that goes straight to throttle body and then to inlet valves. I am gonna install a oil catch tank between the line of rear pcv to avoid that issue. The only problem with this install is that the rear pcv must be very tight lines to avoid to loose pressure. Keep the nice work.

    I'm going to do this & the PCV delete. Just replaced the downpipe (CAT), recently the coils, sparks and both O2 sensors (all threw codes & misfires over the past 6 months). This car was poorly designed in this regard, great idea that you did this when you did, as ours at 110,000 had all of these issues. Oh yeah, and we had carbon removal 10,000 miles ago. Ugh.

  • @EricMa94

    After watching your videos, I installed a oil catch can along with the PCV delete caps. I started the car (2007 Mini Cooper S) after install and after a few minutes of idling, white smoke with bluish tint is coming from my exhaust pipe. I notice some smoke coming from the turbo heat shield area. Ive done some research and it may be caused from limiting the ventilation and building pressure in the crankcase and forcing oil into the turbo and burning the oil. My question is, did you experience this issue? For now i will revert back to stock and hopefully fix the smoking issue. This did not happen until after i installed the catch can and pcv delete. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    • @kevinrodriguez6705
      @kevinrodriguez6705 5 років тому +2

      Eric Ma don’t do the pvc delete. Add another catch can. It’s trying to vent pressurized air and is hitting the cap.

  • @chiobes
    @chiobes 5 років тому +1

    Nice videos. I installed 2 catch cans: one for the passenger side, and the other for the turbo side. Passenger side catches about 5 tablespoons every 500 miles. Turbo side catches ZERO oil. Why is that? Anyway, when the engine is running, disconnecting the PCV hose on passenger side will make the engine misfire (which is normal) however disconnecting the turbo side doesn’t make the engine misfire. Why is that? Looks to me like the turbo side is somewhat plugged or stuck as closed position. There is some sort of a sensor with wire harness where the hose adapts to the air intake. I was told it’s a heater for the turbo. What is that for? Perhaps that is what’s stuck... any thoughts? Thanks

    • @mrticklenuts2124
      @mrticklenuts2124 9 місяців тому

      turbo side only works when you build boost! the PCV hose after the turbo (passenger side) is PAST the turbo, so when you build boost it would push air inside the crankcase. that one is designed to close and under boost the driver side PCV opens. the turbo side is BEFORE the turbo, meaning it is under constant vacuum while the passenger side would have pressure

    Hi! Thanks for the great videos. I’m about the install one on my 2010 Cooper S. I was going to install on the PCV vacuum line, but after seeing your video, I now wonder: why did you choose to install this on the turbo line? And should I do the same rather than the main PCV going into the intake?

    • @BimmerDude
      @BimmerDude  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching! That's a great question actually, the main reason you'd want to put a catch can on the turbo side instead of the intake side is better explained on my pcv delete video. The intake side is what I like to call the dirty side of the pcv system. Its the main reason oil/carbon is getting on the intake valves. you don't "have to delete the pcv but its the route I took." The turbo induction side by design is sucking oil out of the valve cover and it gets into the compressor housing ( you don't want that ). You could infact install a second catch can on the intake side if you wanted to keep the system somewhat in a stock configuration though. GL sir

    • @chiobes
      @chiobes 6 років тому

      Bimmer Dude Very well explained. Thanks very much! Keep up the great videos!. I will install mine on the intake side. Then add a second one on the turbo side in the future. By the way, the turbo side on mine doesn’t seem to do anything. I have no traces of oil in the hose, no vacuum sucking in or pressure coming out of that side of the valve cover. Idle or revved makes no difference. Is that normal? I thought it supposed to create a vacuum when the turbo kicks in and that hose sucks air from the valve cover? The other side that connects to the intake however works as it should (i think) as it sucks really hard even on idle and it actually creates a significant amount of vacuum in the valve cover that it makes it difficult to remove the oil fill cap when the car is on idle. Is that normal too?

  • @andrewdrabo9268
    @andrewdrabo9268 6 років тому +2

    any reason you couldn't utilize the breather filter? just to further reduce the the possibility of sucking oil from the can into your intake?

    • @BimmerDude
      @BimmerDude  6 років тому +1

      Andrew Drabo yes sir. Since the original system does not vent I wanted to recreate a system that was inline. It has been widely discussed that venting the catch can would reduce the vaccum in the system and the seals on the turbo need vacuum under load. Well venting to Atmosphere might help oil Scavenging it would slowly kill your turbo overtime hope that helps thanks for watching!

    Just a quick question. Mini cooper s, 1.6 petrol 2011. Do I still need to install this as mini is not a turbo diesel?
    Thanks

      Hello friend you do not need this if yours is not turbo

      Yes you do need this mod on all mini engines.
      It is nothing to do with the turbo, it is the direct fuel injection which is the cause of this issue.
      If you have a non turbo mini your intake will still become clogged with carbon.

    I'm trying to replicate your install but you didn't mention where you got the hose it's not the same flimsy one that comes with the kit.

    What does an oil catch can does?

    • @jb678901
      @jb678901 4 роки тому

      Catches oil...and other contaminants...that fall out (precipitate) from the crank case vapors into the can itself...before those vapors go back into the valve intake. Helps prevent contaminating the valves with carbon deposits on the dirty side of the intake and also for this clean-side install...contaminants that can collect on the turbo intake...leading to shorter turbo life. On the N14 engines, it seems the dirty side install is more popular. On the N18 engines, the clean side install prior to the turbo, as in this video. IMO.

    IS this just for turbo's?

    • @mathewkelne860

      Doug Hinners yes because only turbo goes use oil🤦‍♀️

      @@mathewkelne860 can also be used on direct inject engines to keep carbon buildup on the intake valves down.

    Hi if anyone can advice me on this idea i would greatly appreciate it! I want a catch can setup but dont want to plug the intake manifold or passenger side pcv. Instead i was thinking of joining both lines from the valve cover and route them to the catch can entry. Then T the catch can exit hose, one for the intake manifold and the other one to the turbo filter system. Would it work? I just dont want to upset the factory pcv system that much.
