I’m pretty sure they did dislike it. Anakin built it to compliment his love for fighting/dueling. Which the Jedi definitely did not like. But perhaps they didn’t necessarily “hate” it -Zach
It's only terrible defense wise, definitely advantageous for aggressive fighting styles. Your blade always has a chance of flickering right as they try to block bypassing all their defenses and reigniting right in their guts and when the enemy tries to block out of anticipation you don't have to worry about them swinging at you when they're in a defensive stance so even if your lightsaber goes out there's still no risk of you getting hurt. If you use a flicker saber all you have to do is remain on the offense and make sure to never rely on your saber to block anything for you, dodging and backing up would be ideal when you're not swinging.
@@DrakeOola you... don't really know much about sword fighting, do you. Being in a "defensive stance" doesn't stop the opponent from swinging. That probably comes from the views the Jedi Order had about war. Being peacekeepers, they probably see any tool used to wage war as something evil, dishonourable and uncivilized, while lightsabers were seen as a means of defense rather than offense, a way to protect themselves should it be required. In a way, Ezra's blaster attachment could work as an extention to the defensive purpose of the lightsaber, since it only fires stun rounds

Also imagine trying to deflect laser blast and the blade flicks causing you to get hit. Unless the user could control the flicker this one seems way to situational to use.
@shamrock73 it's a fighting style called tratka where you turn off and on your lightsaber mid combat to give yourself an advantage. It is rarely used because jedi say its dishonorable and sith say it's for pussies.
Fun fact, an entire niche of lightsaber combat, known as Trakata, was created off the idea of activating and deactivating your saber during battle. It was nearly impossible to defend against. However, it went against the moral code of pretty much every rogue force user, the Jedi saw it as dishonorable and the sith saw it as cowardly, so almost nobody ever used it.
And various other force using factions found it unweildly, and inefficient. As lightsaber ignition usually took some time, the quick change lightsabers were specially modified. And these modifications would damage the kyber crystal and ruin the internal power storage. Reducing the average lifespan of these sabers from around 7 years less than a year. Given the rarity of kyber crystals outside of the two main orders, most external factions would actually increase the charge to time of the blade, and the size of the power source. This extended the life of the lightsaber by a few years, and made flickerphase and trakata traits more unusable to their techniques.
Wouldn’t it randomly go away while you try to parry/are in the bind? Or go for a swing? This seems way more stupid than just extinguishing and igniting your sabre manually like many lightsaber welders did?
The flickerphase lightsaber is a part of the Canon Continuity. The Jedi were passing up a large tactical advantage for something as trivial as a fair fight. War is never fair, and there are no rules. It's best to take what you have and make use of it.
The thing is, you don't have control of when it changes either. So it's just as likely to get you killed as the enemy. The correct way to use it would be the same way as a regular lightsaber, but with a chance that parries/blocks on either side randomly fail. If you're going to relax the rules, you might as well use Trakata that can be done with any random lightsaber, so you know exactly when it'll switch and can choose to do it only when you have a position that would leave you safe without needing to control the opponent's weapon.
There was a move called viper striking they used where they would shut the saber off and then ignite when they would pass the other sabers block, it was majorly used by Sith and outlawed by the Jedi as it wasnt an honorable way of fighting
