- In this video we're checking out The Jam. This unique band has really sparked our interest. Both musically and politically. We love the British history we're getting. Let's see what they have for us. Enjoy!

cynthiamartin....
The song is heavily influenced by Taxman by The Beatles, The band openly admitted it at the time and were proud of the fact. George Harrison never sued so he either liked it, couldn't be bothered or was flattered. The Jam were huge Beatles fans and were listening to Revolver album a lot whilst recording Sound Affects.
The Jam and The Stranglers have such a warm Bass sound i love
Completely agree about the Beatles' influence, and I don't think the band would have disagreed. I'm really pleased that you're both enjoying The Jam - they were a big part of my teenage years and for a time it felt as though they were never out of the UK singles charts. Maybe try "When you're Young" or "Liza Radley" next?
Not that it is likely to be of interest to anyone but "When you're young" is my favourite Jam song
there are two other requests for that song already, so someone agrees with you :)
Loving all the Jam stuff, the soundtrack to a late teens/early 20s London life, great stuff, thanks.❤
I think this went straight into number 1 in the uk charts if memory serves
👍🏴
Awesome, so so glad you are reviewing all the Jam songs
We'll do our best.
The bass line is virtually identical to "Taxman", and they readily admitted the influence!
I heard an interview when it was suggested that the baseline was very like Taxman, and Weller replied.
It was EXACTLY like Taxman!
Mattered not a jot to me at the time - I hadn't heard Taxman. So thanks to The Jam I got a copy of Revolver.
Classic Jam, it didn't get much better than this.
It's weird how The Jam had one of the best examples of a classic three piece band rhythm section, but nobody really noticed or particularly rates them. I think Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler are up there with the best, but never hear them mentioned when people talk about three piece bands or classic rhythm sections.
Yeah, that is funny. I (Chris) know that, even though I never knew any songs of the Jam, I'd heard pieces of their music in pop culture during my teens, and I did know their name growing up.
Okay…as an old Mod from the 80’s in Southern California…first thing, if you’re going to play The Jam, you have to play Nonstop Dancing. Also, Paul Weller went on to many different projects, but the Style Council is worth playing. Another band that was around during the 80’s that is worth a listen is The Colour Field
A Mod in Southern California. That's pretty far from the scene.
You can hear Beatles - Taxman. From one great British band to another.
Note that the album is called "Sound Affects" rather than "Sound Effects"
Chris for the first time in fortyish years of listening to this i hear the Beatles totally agree how could i have missed that?
My favourite Jam track, thanks for reacting 👍🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶❤️
Totally Beatles Rubber Soul/Revolver period influence here. The Jam are great!
Although it was clearly influenced by Taxman, the lyrics alone give this song its own identity.
It was a UK number one in the autumn of 1980, albeit for one week only.
My brother in law back in the day was huge into The jam.
Song influenced by Taxman, which was influenced by Neil Hefti (Batman theme).
I feel the Jam was more influenced by the Kinks, maybe not as much this album but the previous album had a David Watts cover and the album after (Setting Sons) was written after Weller was listening closely to the Kinks' Arthur album.
I’m not a female (clearly) but please react to some Fairport convention (Sandy Denny is the lead singer and she is one of the best vocalists of all time male or female). I don’t know where to start, but maybe the song “Tam Lin” by Fairport Convention would be a good one (personal favourite). Probably most known song of theirs is “who knows where the time goes” though
Also keep going with Kate Bush. Can you react to “Wow” and if you’re really adventurous “Suspended in Gaffa”.
Now subscribed 👍
Definitely Beatles influence plus I can hear some David Bowie. Great the way they melded different influences together and still produce a Jam sound.
WELLER HAS NEVER BEEN INFLUENCED BY BOWIE!
Another great review of The Jam. Yeah...The Jam...and especially Weller, were greatly influenced by The Beatles.. and of course 'Taxman'....the band were listening to The Beatles' 'Revolver' album in the lead up to recording 'Sound Affects'. Both great albums...and arguably each of the bands' best albums
Loved how they played backwards tape on if I never ever see you line interesting sound before that rickenbacker influenced by taxman by the beatles agree with you
My favourite song
Yes , The Jam, and Start, is influenced by Taxman, but what I think is just as important is the fantastic cover of Taxman by the band Rootjoose, and the whole Rootjoose album , Rhubarb. And, after listening to Start by The Jam, I always want to go and listen to Pictures Of Matchstick Men, by Status Quo.
The reason you hear a Beatles influence is because Start is a straight lift of the Beatles Taxman from Revolver. The chords and riff are very similar, I'm surprised Weller has never been sued.
It's based on the tax man by the beatles same rift it the jam told everyone that.
Lmao her reaction kills me 😂 she looks so confused for the first half of the song
Enjoy your journey . Whatever song you listen to you can’t go wrong as long it’s an original. Weller openly admitted at the time of release that the bass line was lifted from Taxman.
We just listened to the Peter Jackson remastered version. Pretty good stuff.
@@hanierfamily I think it’s better left alone as it was. Revolver is my favourite Beatles album.Lennon was my favourite beatle.
Thanks for the shout out and reacting to the track 👍👍 I'm waiting for you to review some iron maiden, you may surprise yourself and like them, I'd suggest, when the wild wind blows, just to ease you into them , go on , take a flyer guys
We know some Iron Maiden. You're request was added to our list.
@@hanierfamily look forward to it
Crazy bass line and a shocking shreak chord but it works. As a new subscriber i can honestly say you lady are cute
If you spotted The Beatles influence in this song, you should listen to anything by the band Oasis… most of their songs are pretty much straight copies of The Beatles’ style
I was at school when this was big. Yes, the song like many others by The Jam is Beatles influenced
There's a few songs from my own band on UA-cam, The sun will rise again ( Storm in a teacup MMXVI) If you ever want to try it.
What did you play?
@@hanierfamily bass but I love to tell people that I play the triangle
Agree i hear Beatles but also early Motown and the Beatles were heavily influenced by the original R&B artists
The bass line was robbed from the Beatles taxman
Have you done any Squeeze yet? ( The group, nothing more). Here's a request for "Another Nail In My Heart"
We have done that one as well as several other Squeeze songs. Please take a look.
@@hanierfamily Yes I spotted that after this post! Being a newcomer, I'll spend more time browsing your vids before suggesting!
!
Hi guys loving the channel all the way from Ireland. Could you do a reaction to Little Bitch by The Specials
Great request!
so what you're saying is that if the ladies could watch and subscribe for 2 minutes only, it would be a START lol
you should give happy together by the jam a listen!
We hear the Beatles taxman too
I think you need to have a deeper level of understanding, I enjoyed watching. Thanks.
Prefer the single version without the brass over the outro chorus.
Kia ora hello hay just for you you can call me Heather 🙂
Definitely a lot of Beatles influence as Paul Weller has admitted...
Best band ever. You 2 arre strange though! You know nothing about music!! You are so funny!
Yep almost a direct copy of Taxman
Are you moving house?
if you look back at some of our first videos, you can hear about how we have been looking for a place for a long time now. We are ok to stay here for now, but we will be needing to find a place as the weather gets warmer. It's very difficult right now.
@@hanierfamily I hope things work out and you find somewhere more permanent soon.

Have you heard reacted to any Pogue songs cuz I could list off a few Im sure your would like... I am flabergasted by how many people havent heard half the bands I have and I dont listen to a lot of music either...
(*band*) The Bauhaus - (song) Lagartija Nick, or third Uncle, they have a few good ones too... wow I'm old... 1982 for those songs lol)
OF course it sounds like the Beatles they openly ripped off the bass and guitar of Taxman......😝
Foe you i ll be a lady tonight
This song is the most subtle and effective one ever about a stalker.
Stan, stand down!
The Beatles influence on this track was intentional. It is rather unfortunate though as the Jam were wonderful and the Beatles were the most overrated pile of stinking shit in music history.
You should listen to Florence and the machine and more female acts, maybe to get more female subs.
Any song suggestions?
Dog Days Are Over
93 percent of nobody watching your videos
