First of all: THANK YOU!!!! Couldn't have made my Monday any better! I'm really glad you enjoyed this one! It's such a melancholic, beautiful, and hopeful song. You weren't wrong... Weller alternates between saying "when I see you again" and "Will I see you again"... which makes for a bit of unease... but it remains on the positive hope side. "Tortured winds that blew me over When I start to think that I'm something special They tell me that I'm not And they're right and I'm glad that I'm not I will never be embarrassed about love again Oh, baby, I'm dreaming of Monday Oh, baby, will I see you again? Oh, baby, I'm dreaming of Monday Dreaming of Monday" This, like a lot of Weller's lyrics is autobiographical... with him speaking of himself getting too big of a head, he gets a dose of Feet On The Ground... and he's glad for it. I had a chance to meet the band at a Tower Records appearance in Los Angeles and they patiently signed three of my albums. Paul Weller couldn't have been nicer and we had a really nice chat. Made a huge impression on me as a young man. Thank you again... You both are the best! Cheers!
One of the best songs on an excellent album. I remember my high school days & looking forward to seeing a certain young lady. She made Monday special & I loved the weekends but didn't dread Monday. It was fun , being young !
Great album and i still have my vinyl copy from when it was first released and i can remember repeated plays of all these new Jam songs for months afterwards.
The Jam,and Weller in particularly (obviously),had been listening to The Beatles 'Revolver' during the sessions for 'Sound Affects' which this track is from. Not surprisingly, the tracks may have a 60s feel,in particular, 'Start', which lifted the bass line from 'Taxman' as it's driving force.
This and Dream Time, from the album, really take the atmosphere back to my house in Cornwall, late '81. ( I got the album in '80, but got a hi in late '81) Very evocative. And I think you're right on the meaning.
In the city is my fav Jam album , the more punky one ✊ Already you can hear Wellers growing softer and more melodic leaning , the piano gives it away . This is a great track , you could definitely imagine the Kinks ( Wellers heroes ) coming up with this one . 👍🏴
I totally agree "In The City" is my favourite album by 'The Jam', the first two albums are my favourites, I loved their cover of 'The Kinks' "David Watts".
@@Adam_Le-Roi_Davis. absolutely spot on Adam , if memory serves David Watts was a double A side ? Was it maybe All round the world ? Not sure tbh 👍🏴
Ha AAA ! Now Im convinced Chris and Cynthia , that that you are Time Travellers . Or I may have gone to Narnia again , as its Tuesday evening ! Great band the Jam . Although this tune is a bit un Jammy!! Fav Jam Album has got to be "In the City " 1977 There is a great version of the 1960s "Batman " may be good for a Wed comparison ! and just a great couple of tracks on this album that are just Ace ! "In the City " and " Non Stop Dancing " cheers
This is a good track off this equally good album, I forgot this when I was thinking of my list for you, Chris. A great choice, 'The Jam' were a fantastic band, Paul Weller was a big fan of 'The Kinks', hence their cover of "David Watts".
I never got into the jam, Eton rifles is my favourite, there's little doubt they are the real deal, who done the original, I know the song ? 🏴 Happy healthy peace ✌️
I had the Sound Affects album as a teenager. Great album and a great song. If you're going to do a days of a week thing, please do ''Saturday Night'' by Cold Chisel. Best video is below. Just copy and paste the following, and make sure it is the (Audio + Video Merge 2023) version. Cold Chisel - Saturday Night (Audio + Video merge 2023)
Not as spiky as I like from The Jam, but still a decent song. I don't think anyone can make Mondays any better, although quitting work and being able to stay in bed and not see anyone at all has improved the day immeasurably for me.

This song...........🙂🎼🎶🎶🎵🎵❤️❤️🎧
A beautifully sharp and melancholic tune and song from The Jam. Yes, quite Kinks and also Beatles like. Tis piano on there too 👍
When The Jam split up in 1982, Polydor records re-released all their singles. So they had 18 singles in the British singles chart at the same time.
