Which is a nice touch imo, they put his statue in a good location within the city
I'm enjoying SO MUCH seeing you two react to Korra; you're super kind to the characters and the story itself, and it super refreshing to see that, since TLOK received so much hate years ago. Korra has a special place in my heart, she's full of the purest intentions, but she has SO MUCH to learn yet.
I remember simultaneously liking and disliking the series. Korra and Aang really are opposites. In almost every way.
Watching others react to this series really helps put a perspective on the story and the characters.
And given the series was built season by season, instead of thought through from beginning to end (like ATLA), it’s understandable that there might be inconsistencies here and there.
@@ETPangilinan1 not exactly season by season. They were told they’d have two more seasons after they had already wrapped up Book 2, so Books 3 & 4 were actually made with this in mind and that’s why they mesh better than the other seasons. Unfortunately the budget got cut before Book 4 was finished so there were some pacing issues and good ideas had to be thrown out the window, which was a shame. If Nickelodeon hadn’t interfered so much it definitely would have turned out 100x better, and even then it’s still pretty good in my eyes
@@beyondviolet exactly, i feel like if they had more time and less pressure from nickeloden then korra would be even better series than atla. 13 episodes per season was quite good cuz there was fast pace but at the same time it was bad thing cuz they almost didnt have much left to add some default episodes with no real point but only character development

It's not just firebenders who are bad. The Triple Threat Triad is so named because they have all benders (except air). We saw them in the first episode.
Friendly reminder that the brotherly relationship between Bolin and Mako is excellent.
I feel like relationships are very well developped in this first season. The love triangle, the father-daughter relationship (no name so no spoiler), Korra and Tenzin as Master and student, the evil brotherhood, but Bolin and Mako is the cream of the crop.

The fight scenes in this episode are amazing because it show us once more that the weakness of the bendings are close distance fights.

Ty Lee was the prime example of that case. Her blend of agility and chi blocking made her badass. Once she closed the distance against a bender, she more often than not hit her mark.

When you're watching Korra, you have to keep in mind that it's mostly Nickelodeon fault that so many people dislike it.
When atla ended, they wanted more, so they gave Mike and Bryan (creators) a shorter budget, shorter season (10-15 eps, instead of 20), and told them that Korra was only one season long, so they had to wrap it up, and that's why season 1 it's so packed with Atla elements (Also, they had to fight nick just to make Korra a female protagonist)
But Korra blew up, and nick renewed the show for a second season, with a bigger budget, but still little time, and they thought that was it, so they wrapped the season up again.
Then they had season 3 and 4, they're the best seasons because they had more time and more thought put into it. They had more chance to do what they wanted, and I personally think those are the seasons you're gonna like the most.
also a reminder that a big reason ppl hated it was because of how it premiered the later seasons: reruns of Season 3 were rarely shown at all and usually at late night slots where the target audience wouldnt find it, and then im pretty sure Season 4 was put exclusively on the Nickelodeon app/website for some reason, a small resurgence of Korra being talked about positively really only started with the dvd/bluray releases of the whole show tbh and just slightly got bigger recently with the Netflix release
While all of those things are true, I also feel like a lot of the people who dislike LOK dislike it just simply because it’s not the last air bender. When you go into the show open minded and not expecting a carbon copy of the previous show then it’s a significantly better viewing experience.
I read that season 4 had to be made with unexpected budget cuts that’s why there’s that filler episode just filled with all the past seasons
It also had a completely different writing team.
@@tanorfoote6341 they, if memory serves, had to decide between a shorter season with all staff or a longer season with cut staff. They didn't cut the staff so they made an episode that required minimal animation work to save money. Supposedly, there was going to be an episode about Kuvira's past but didn't make the cut.

Just wanted to point out how Naga is the new Appa, and Pabu is the new Momo...and also that Naga is Korra's animal guide - some animal that every avatar has that helps them along during their training and adventures. Aang had Appa, Roku had Fang, and now Korra has Naga, etc. I love this part of the avatar lore. 😄💯👍🏻

One of the most interesting parts of Legend of Korra, is that a lot of the issues being tackled aren't black and white/right and wrong, and often you'll be able to see and understand other points of view - even if they're taken too far.
Its a really great juxtaposition to Avatar's more conventional good and evil approach, and also for a Young Adult series a great way of introducing the nuances in real life.
Non-benders pointing out the inequality in a world where not everyone has the ability to manipulate elements is a legitimate argument, and that bending is primarily taught as a weapon and used for wars is also partially correct. Their actions towards it, on the other hand, taking people's bending away and preying on people's anger, further stirring it up, moving towards a fascist state is not right.
I think this show informed me a lot growing up, on actions and being able to see things from other people's point of view.
You can watch the short Mako and Bolin have, it’s about their past. When they were on the streets 🤧

How is it stupid though, the people he 'cleansed' or whatever didn't become non-benders genetically per-se, they just can bend due to him blocking the chakra paths.

It's a post apocalyptic story set in Europe with beautiful family relationships, strong female characters, interesting villains, action and some mystery. I think you'd like it. So the comics go into where this anti-bender sentiment came from. But just the first piece is that _every_ bad thing that happened in the 100 year war is "benders". Benders committed genocide. Benders tried to do it again. Benders secretly ran Ba Sing Se and turned it into a police state. Benders tore down the Ba Sing Se wall. Bender's made the dragons extinct. Benders kidnapped random innocent fire nation citizens by controlling their blood.
By the end of ATLA, plenty of non-benders are kinda done living in a world of superpowered people with no real oversight. And Aang could only undo so much bad sentiment.
This show really needs more than one episode a week!

Think about people like Toph, and then think about how bending is an extension of benders, something they were born with, and use every single day for daily tasks, because it's just who they are. Think of people who depend on their bending to navigate the world. Then think about what Amon is doing. How violating it is, and how it is like he's taking their identity from them, and making them handicapped. It's one thing to grow up as a normal person and learn to work around what you can't do, and it's another to have been born with an inate ability that is then taken from you.
And thus the introduction of the best villain in all of the Avater series (IMHO) has begun.

Eh, I prefer Zaheer. I like a villain who actually, honestly believes they're in the right, not because they believe themselves to be superior or "better," but because they see a problem that needs to be fixed and feel they are the only ones who care enough to fix it.

Honestly Amon is so powerful, that he has to be at the same power level as the Avatar (defenetly the most powerful Avatar villain, if we don’t count Vaatu/Unavaatu). Season 1 is really good.

I watched this having been already completely spoiled about a lot of things, so it's rather weird seeing you react this autenthically to some charachters and situations. I'm very interested about what you're going to think about some things... Mako, for starters 👀 I see you are kinda liking him, and I mean, what's not to like about a protective big brother, certainly 💕 Bolin's the purest creature in these series, including Tenzin's children. And, Amon. I'm eager to see what you think Amon. He's easily one of the most powerful charachters, a villain with quite an arc.

Not only can be bloodbend at any time, he can do it with his mind alone and use it to sever chi pathways. I really don’t think anyone other than the Avatar has shown this level of raw power.
