  • The “Réminiscences de Halka, de St. Moniuszko. Fantaisie de concert” is an operatic paraphrase on Polish composer Stanisław Moniuszko’s Halka, composed by the 18 year old Carl Tausig, considered one of the most eminent of Liszt’s students. This transcription, taking after Liszt’s style, maintains progressive tonality, beginning from one key and ending somewhere else, far away from the original. The Halka Fantasy was given the “Opus 2” catalogue number along with Tausig’s Tarantella, which is a separate piece. Thus, in music scholarship, the Tarantella (paired with an Introduction) is given the “2a” designation while the Halka Fantasy is assigned “2b”.

The section from 5.04 to 8.45 was used as the theme music for the Emmy-winning Thames Television production of 'The Belle of Amherst', a one-woman play by William Luce, starring the incredible Claire Bloom as poet Emily Dickinson.

I find the section at 4:00 to be absolutely beautiful, but I can understand why someone may think differently.

What kind of piano could this be? It sounds so grand, might be Steinway I’m not too sure, but it sounds so powerful.

I just heard of this (relatively obscure) piece yesterday night and when I woke up there it was in my notifications. What are the chances ? Are you from google ?

Often performers deem parts of endings unnecessary, or if you're Lang Lang, a whole page lol.

@@JamesBower-yj6ew lol. IMO the last notes felt kind missed. you must be talking about Reminiscences de Don Juan, right?

@@xbadover2993 Yeah Don Juan, and I do find it to be a rather unmusical of Lang Lang - like you are saying, sometimes the performer's choices can make it sound a little abrupt haha
