Where is the studio that produced this film? France. That's where. I think we owe it to the French people to sit through a couple minutes of translation while an American director talks in their country. Jesus you people are touchy.
Having grown up in Montreal and hearing 100's of hours of muchmusic interviews of English to French translated artists, interpreters usually wait until the answer is complete before translating, line by line was not a good setup and amateur. People don't usually formulate whole, complete paragraphs of thoughts before speaking, it actually kills spontaneity or tangents - the opposite of Lynch's style. It means the complexity of the conversation has to be lowered. David was forced to follow whatever he started with his first sentence and in part 4, he sometimes speaks only 5 words before the translator jumps in. It's very unnatural in any context, unless they were like singing the lyrics to a prerehearsed song.
Think of the people who are physically present. Not everything is about post production. Moreover, translating English in the local language is a sign of a nation's self respect. I agree that this can reach the point of chauvinism. School... Come on.
