- Ariens snowblower extremely modified to be powerful and effortless to use.
Eastern Canada mountains, backyard engineering.
Easy handling of heavy snow guaranteed! : • 23 HP ariens snowblow...
kraken killer
As someone with too much time on my hands, and a little extra money, I can appreciate what you did!
Now you just need a bumper sticker that says, "My snowblower beat-up your honor role student"
I was with you right up until you cut the auger housing to make it smaller. As someone who lives in Buffalo, NY area, and gets slammed with snow every year (Christmas Eve 2022 we had 4 ft overnight in a single snowfall event) I cannot believe that cutting back the auger housing made it easier to get through thick or heavy snow.
The rest of what you did was amazing. I wish I had the technical know-how, time and money to accomplish something like this.
I change more than one thing at a time which is not good to measure the difference but I believe that make it easier, look at big tractor snowblower it is made like this, you never see a housing coming so far like a walk snowblower, I beleve it is made for saftey concerns, to not grab somebody or somthing with the auger.
thanks for your comments
@@Sim-gy7nh It makes sense for it to dig into heavy deep snow, even old Ariens blowers have teardrop shaped housing with front top of auger exposed.

That's some impressive distance
The way you reengineered that snowblower was incredible. I laughed too at the new engine and couldn’t wait to see the power of it throwing snow. It did not disappoint. Amazingly well done.
Incredible engineering skills!! Great Vid!!
Definitely something i want! Beast setup and skill you have there sir.
Great job man! Electric chute rotation looks awesome. And your video presentation / editing is great too.
Wow, what a monster. Now put some kind of cab on it and you will be a lot more comfortable blowing snow.
Wow that’s really something
Tim Taylor called, he wants you to build one for him. MOAR POWWWWEEEERRRRR!
Good job I like it its an awesome snowblower man!
Wow, amazing project and the results look like this setup gets it done.
Love it. and so smooth.
Simply AWESOME…. And I cracked up when I saw the Honda engine show up. Of course I am sure there will be someone out there… saying all you had to do was go out and buy an EGO 2-stage battery operated snowblower. Haha
honda is the big block, it s true power!
Well that escalated quickly. Beast of a blower
Bravo pour le concept, on en veut tous une maintenant
Great job it works very well, that engine laughs at the load. I would consider bridging the drift cutters with a sheet of material just make it one big opening to funnel snow in.
You need to get some pipes bent up, or welded up, for that exhaust to cut down on the turbulence created by the 90° elbows. While you're at it use pipes maybe a 1/4" larger in ID than the stock pipes and put a an X pipe in the middle. At each exhaust impulse the X pipe will pull the exhaust out of the other pipe through the venturi affect. That should give you a bit more power and it should run cooler. Maybe add a larger outlet pipe to the muffler too.🤩
Way cool!
Beautiful build! Hope the trans holds well for you!
Some nice mods. I see you converted back to the old teardrop style bucket. That will definitively help when pushing into the snow.
Interesting adjustable height shoes. I thought about building a manual quick adjust setup for my old blower, but I never got around to it.

= It is exactly that!
Thanks for sharing.. and editing was ok too! I'm building small 56cm wide from 5hp to 13hp.. 😅
Great Power. I too welded 'shoes' to my skids and electrically rotate the chute with a 12VDC drill and DPDT switch.
I have no need to raise or lower the Front. Do you use chains on the tires?
I use Flat bar not angle for drift cutters. Too bad you don't have independent steering on that model.
Well Done.
No chain need now because of the weight of the machine, if I install chain that will blow up the vario disk
Great job IMO. I don't understand why you cut off the top portion of of the auger housing off. What problem did that solve or improve? I really like the use of the linear actuators to raise and lower the front of the snowblower. Excellent idea. Overall all modifications seem to be done very well.
In a big storm the snowplow let a huge 5' tall and 6' wide mount of packed snow in the entry and I suspect the top portion give restistance to the advance of the machine because the auger didnt touch the snow first, when you see snowblower on nice tractors like 75 hp, there is nothing on the front on the auger, I belive this is a prtoection for avoid yourself attack steps or post, or people.I do a lot of modification in one time so it is no easy to say if this particular mod change a lot, but it is way more easy to drive through the mount of snow in the street now. Sorry if my explain is not great here it is french speaking...
The real question you should ask is, "why to they put those large auger housings on modern American machines?"
The answer is two reasons: 1) lawyers and 2) is does aid in service as you can tip them on the nose and work on them w/o a special stand.
exact!@@l337pwnage
Wow, great job! With 23 HP consider building a rear platform, with wheels? That way you can stand behind the snow blower.
Until the original platform give satisfaction:no it is a big job to develop a nice handling a safe platform, maybe all traction electric with one more strap for a alternator but it is no on the plan
Wow! That is quite the frankenblower! What great job re engineering that snowblower. It really chucks the snow now. Curious. What is your day job?
hvac tech
Hilarious and awesome! I see comments on price etc.. it's missing the point completely. Embarking on a project like this is much more about the engineering, building and DIY satisfaction than the resulting object itself. Question : Are you at all concerned about the gearbox being able to deal with the radical torque increase over the long term?
radical torque increase over the long term = yes it is a concern, I open it before season and there a bit of loos because about 6 years of being used, I will fully open and check during summer and replace the brass bushing by true bearing. Close it with high quality synthetic liquid grase and hope for the best.
I will do a video this summer about the opening of the gear box, the twin belt system by ariens did a great job, no issue a this point.
@@Sim-gy7nh Looking forward to watch that!
The simple thing would have been just to buy a Honda snow blower. Those things are beasts on their own with better transmissions and the same features like yours. The engine you bought is well over CA$3000. The Honda snow blower with tracks, battery start, hydrostatic transmission, pneumatic height adjustment, electric chute controls etc. at 28" is just under $5000.
yes honda are great snowblower they send snow far but not eating that fast heavy snow, the motor was a deal for me becausew pre owned but new in the box only payed 2000 $ for
5000 $ honda you still have only 13 hp there is no magic , you wan to move snow fast you need power.
If you had to do it all over again, would you make any changes?
no, but the engin temp is questionnable, I monitor it takes 10 min working full load to warm at 70 c wich stays to low. I already use the low temp synthetic oil and remote oil filter heater.
HHHmmm🧐. Gives me ideas for my blender
What is the top speed? I want one that goes 10 mph. Does this?
no = never or you have to changes pulleys ratio to run auger and vario disk faster. 10 mph look out of rich on wathever snowbler with 1 ft of snow
Something is wrong with my volume buttons.
wat its dis danga langa portocalas:))
Dumdest thing Iever seen.
Clearly you're not a man with too much time on his hands :)
@@puffyelvis5895 @randy2812 He can't even write!!
@lvis5895 Well, he could have sold the Ariens and bought a genuine Honda snow blower for the amount of money (CA$6500) he spent modifying this one. He could have also purchased a small single stage Honda to use on his patio or deck for the amount left over. Oh, and when selling the Ariens, he could have bought a Honda EU2200is inverter generator.
