  • We join the in-progress lesson on Bible Interpretation (initial remarks not recorded). In this lesson Lanny Smith of the Walton Chapel church of Christ in Lafayette TN talks about how to recognize figurative language. In the previous lesson, he dealt with two ways to recognize figurative language: the context may indicate such and the literal meaning may be impossible. In this lesson he adds six more ways to recognize figurative language: the literal meaning may result in a contradiction; the literal meaning may demand something that is wrong; the passage may say it is figurative; sometimes the definite is put for the indefinite; and sometimes plain common sense is needed.
