I was in that exact same emotional space as you, man! Okami was one of the 1st games I ever championed... played assorted themes from the soundtrack on piano...wrote a paper about it at college...own every game version ever released, physically. This game changed how I think about folklore, faith, and life. I totally get you
Let it out, man. Those of us who know just how amazing Ōkami is feel the same way. I, for one, never even had hope in my heart that Ōkami would get a sequel, given its circumstances. The news that its original game director literally created a new company just so he could make this game is so mind boggling to me, but I am the happiest that I have ever been in a long time. So happy cry all you want, I know I did.
Capcom back then did jack shit with marketing the game to a wide enough audience. They considered the game too experimental and essentially gave it a lot of budget but barely any PR so it would fail harder. Now with this current era of CAPGOD and the goodwill they have built up with the new releases of their bigger IPs they have made space to actually give these experimental but iconic series another shot, especially in hiring back the original creators after studios like Platinum are having a slow downfall.
I was 15 when it came out. Was the first game I completely beat in one continuous try over the course of a month. Then I played it again and again, cheered & cried when the HD Edition came out and bought it for the PS3. Cheered again when it was released on PC and bought it AGAIN. I own the art book, the soundtrack, the DS spiritual sequel Okamiden, and so many other things. This moment is so special, not just for me, but for all us Okami fans who waited nearly two decades. Once again, the sun rises 🌸
for context for those who don't know what okami is. a lot of people grew up with this game and it never really got its proper sequel due to so much corporate shenanigans. Now things have changed and made it possible for the original creator to do it.. AFTER 18 YEARS of people wanting it badly. So yeah.. people are moved. This is a childhood legend they havent seen in years tackling them in span of a couple mins.. Im glad we are getting this.
It wasn't corporate shenanigans, the original release sold horribly so of course they weren't going to greenlight a sequel at the time. But the story of the game gradually achieving a respectable cult following and justifying a sequel now after all these years is awesome
@@YeetusMingusThat's very true. While Okami originally sold poorly at it's PS2 launch, it gained a cult audience, enough to warrant several ports and a HD remaster, thus introducing it to new people that grew into a genuine fandom.
@@YeetusMingusThe original release not selling well was due in large part to corporate shenanigans. It basically got zero exposure or advertising, and yet was critically acclaimed across the board even getting game of the year from many publications.
Bro you and I and millions of others both cried. I was in a discord of 20+ people and broke down into sobs every other word between said sobs was "I've waited 18 years for this." "18 yearsssssssss FOR THIS"
Incidentally. OKAMI’ is a Japanese game title written as “大神”. OKAMI' also means “wolf (OKAMI)”. There is a long-standing myth in Japan that the wolf is a messenger of the gods and a sacred creature. Unfortunately, wolves have become extinct in Japan. The game is based on Japanese mythology (Shinto) and in a way is familiar to the Japanese. And ‘OKAMI’ also means Amaterasu. ohmikami. This is the supreme deity in Japanese mythology and represents the sun. After looking at the ‘OKAMI’ logo, take a look at the Japanese flag. Japan has a treasure known as the ‘Three Sacred Treasures’. These are national treasures that only a limited number of people are allowed to see. Only the Emperor, who performs ceremonies, is allowed to see them. These are the 草薙の剣(Kusanagi Sword), 八咫の鏡(Yata of mirror) and the 八尺瓊勾玉(Yasakani no Magatama). We know that they exist among the Japanese. But no one has seen them, so the details are unknown. The main character, the wolf, carries the Yatanokagami(八咫の鏡) on his back.
This is the best Zelda game ever, and I always answer that when someone asks me which Zelda I think is the best. I played this game along Twilight princess and there was no comparison, Okami is one of the few 10/10 games I've ever played in my life, truly timeless. This and the new Ueda project blew me away in the awards
2:36 Once I saw this teaser, "I don't care what else happens, today is the best fucking day" is pretty much the sentiment I decided to carry into the future until this sequel releases
This didn't have to happen, its a risk and they know it, but want to make us games we ACTUALLY want! Everyone needs to guy buy random Capcom games RIGHT NOW! WE GIVE THEM OUR MONEY, THEY DESERVE IT! TAKE IT ALL!
See, here's someone who gets why Geoff teared up about it.
I hate all of the reactions not getting it lol
@@Hakudan2well you can't blame them. Take me for example, I had no idea what okami is until I decided to a bit of research.

@@Centurion-fl4wjWell now you'll have to play it so you can fully understand why it's regarded by many people as one of the best games ever made.

I still can't undestrand how this masterpiece was so overlooked. Is basically Ocarina of Time for the PS2 level
Uh, way better than Ocarina of Time if you ask me
@@galaxy8190As much as I love OoT, hard agree. The aesthetics alone make it leagues better.
Yup :D It's THE BEST "zelda game" without "Zelda" in the title xD

Happy for you man, I haven't played the game but just from watching others, the art style, the music, the gameplay 💋
I cried too, my man. Never thought I’d live to see this day, honestly.
