@@frostaxcess I used to go that on all my audios because that is what I like. It makes production of each 30 minutes story go from about 6-8 hours up to perhaps 3x this, but because I like it that is what I used to do long before turning my channel into a sleep stories channel. I have tried to do it since turning my channel into a sleep stories channel but they were so unpopular with my audience that I stopped doing this because putting in a week's work to a single track that only makes me about $5 isn't financially worth doing. I wish people did like it and when releasing one of those tracks it got the views to make a weeks worth of income, then I would be able to do that more. There are still about 6-8 of these available on my channel, which I've also released on an album available on streaming and downloads services.
@@frostaxcess as an example, in my story A Lesson in Harmony there is a dragon and I wanted the sound of a dragon breathing so I spent hours just over this one sounds trying to work out how to have the sound of a dragon breathing. I eventually purchased a royalty free sound of a horse doing a breath out and slowed this down, deepened the sound and then added a short deepened but not slowed down version and put these together to make the sound of the dragon breathing in and out. This tiny bit alone was about 3-4 hours work. To make any one track I have to try to find and buy royalty free sounds to use. Just for the tracks I made since my channel became a sleep stories channel I've probably spent about £300 on the sounds in those tracks and taken perhaps 450 hours to make them and those videos combined have made about £10 of income. Where I can I gather my own sounds and obviously i can reuse sounds, so I don't have to always be buying new sounds, but it does take a lot of time and cost a lot of money to make those tracks. Long before my channel became a sleep stories channel I would post a sleep story maybe once every 3 months to a year and it would have sound effects etc, but I was doing this because I like those sorts of tracks and was mainly making them for me. In an ideal world I would be posting about one sleep story per month on this channel and doing this with each one I release, with each one having sound effects etc. For me, the sound effects help absorb me in the experience, without sound effects my inner experience is just black in my mind and not really absorbing at all. I pretty much only ever listen to sleep stories and meditations with sound effects...
I have PTSD. I used to wake up every morning around 2am with a terrible stomach ache and sense of fear. Last night, I fell asleep listening to this video and I woke up feeling safe for the first time in years. Thank you.
This was one of my first ones created with ideas from viewers. Back then my channel wasn't a sleep stories channel but people wanted sleep stories so every time my channel passed its next thousand milestone I made a long story as a thank you to everyone who was kind enough to subscribe and I would ask for suggestions in the community section for what subscribers would like in the story and then create a story around the ideas they say they would like...
This wonderful story is full of physical descriptions like the leaves in the forest and the books on the shelves. These descriptions call on imagined senses. It is lovely distraction that helps my brain to calm down. Thanks for these great stories!
These make me have these long detailed dreams and then i wake up feeling like I resolved something. In.not sure what I resolved but these are some serious thought provoking dreams.
I can never get through to the end of your stories before I fall asleep. I’ve listened to this one a lot. It’s one of your best. Thank you so much for helping me relax and sleep soundly every night
Our group story is out! Thank you for connecting us all in this way, weaver of tales and those who listen. To me, it multiplies the peace and comfort and introspection of the experience knowing other people have contributed to and anticipated it and are enjoying it now. Your patient creativity is very appreciated Dan.
Thank you, I'll have to get all your input in future long stories, although by the end of 40 days of stories posts everyone will probably be happy with a break from my stories... I liked getting input from subscribers and not knowing what I would have to weave together into a final story. This is how I work in therapy, the client gives metaphors, words, phrases and ideas etc and has something the story needs to help them treat, then I am them to close their eyes and weave everything they have communicated into a healing story that is unique to them and resonates with them because everything in the story came from them...
this is definitely one of the best channels doing adult bedtime stories. most of the others have something distracting like bad story choice, distracting voices, or bad sound mix. i appreciate that you don't really use background noises, because combined with speech, that'll keep my ass up all night. speech or white noise, not both!
I agree, Dan's channel is the best for sleep hands down. His is one of only three on UA-cam that I find useful for me, and of the three, Dan's is my favorite by far.
Dan have you heard about inight Timer. So many meditations etc but not enough bedtime stories. You might like to check it out! Thank you for all your hard work.
It great to listen to the story because two reasons are 1. You can get history out of the story. 2. Help me fall asleep because sometimes I can't get sleep at the minute!♥♥♥♥♥!
I had the worst anxiety attack. Never knew I would feel so anxious about ruins. Had to stop after 5 minutes. I believe it's a good story, for anyone else than me.
I'm not sure it was this story I was listening to last night (I listened to a few of yours during a night of fairly non existent sleep). I felt I was just dropping to sleep right at the end when I heard what comparatively sounded like a shout (probably wasn't that though, just louder speech) saying 'subscribe!'. I was then properly awake! Do they all end with this as I was scared to listen to another?! Also, do they automatically go on to another story at the end which then does have normal chat at the beginning - fine for first story of the night but not if on the middle of a run of stories? I would need to listen to a few of these in one go before I fall asleep on my worst nights. Hope this makes sense!
There is no 'subscribe, like' etc, bit at the end of any of my stories, and I don't go back to normal speech at the end of the stories. I do this at the beginning of my stories so that I don't have to wake people I hope have fallen asleep at the end of my videos. If you listen to a number of my videos in a playlist you can't make future videos in the playlist start from part way through the video so you will get the start of the next video of me saying to like and subscribe. It is best to listen to just one story from a playlist and not let it autoplay to the next story and choose stories that work for you in terms of duration it takes you to become absorbed following the story and so stopping inner chatter etc and falling asleep. I have long stories which are between 40 and a little over 60 minutes long for those who require longer stories. Most of my stories are about 25-35 minutes long. Another issue with listening to more than one story in a playlist on autoplay is that there is a very high chance UA-cam will play an ad at the beginning of the next story which might wake you up. I have two long videos of stories on my channel, one which has about 11.5 hours of my stories playing back to back with no ads during the video and no introductions 'like, subscribe' etc, before stories, so it is just back to back stories uninterrupted. The other video like this is that I have all six Dragon's Fire stories in a single video which has an introduction at the beginning before the first story, but is then introduction and ad free through all six stories, which is about 3 hours of back to back sleep stories. 94 of my sleep stories are also available on my Dan Jones Hypnosis Sleep Stories Podcast which can be downloaded as an app to iOs or Android devices. These stories don't have the UA-cam introduction and there are no ads, and some of the stories are on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon MP3, and The Mind Changers website I run with Dr David Lewis. All the best Dan
Obviously there is no obligation for people to listen to a new story every night or to try to keep up. It can be nice to just know when you want to listen to something you have plenty to choose from and lots to discover...
I certainly don't feel obligated The only reason I can't keep up is I fall asleep before they're over & I have to hear the whole thing so I listen again until I make it It's a wonderful delight! Thanks so much
I love these but I would love them even more if you had sound affects or music. Don't know have you or others feel about that. Regardless thank you for all you do
It's like Marmite, some people just want the voice, others want music or sound effects etc. All my early stories had tailored background music and sound effects. People also have different opinions of what music they like or dislike etc. I always recommend people use the Slumber app which has many of my stories on it and let's you listen without music or with music (different options) or different sounds effects and change volumes of all of these and mix and match etc... And you then don't have ads or me doing an introduction, you just have the track you want to listen to...
In addition to Dan's suggestion of the Slumber app, may I also recommend mynoise.net? It has lots of different sounds and tonal drones and backgrounds that you can open up in a separate tab and play alongside Dan's stories. That is what I use when I want ambiance in addition to Dan's voice. (Note I am not affiliated with mynoise.net nor do I receive proceeds from its donors. I'm just a big fan of the site.)
No. I've got many of my tracks on the Slumber app and 94 stories on my Dan Jones Hypnosis Sleep Stories podcast. I've had a couple of people say that, I perhaps should take a listen...
That was fun, although I would have believed it, because I believe in multiple dimensions (and such). I wouldn't have gone back a second time, and I definitely wouldn't have interacted with anyone. I would have been afraid that by my modern clothes they would accuse me of witchcraft and kill me 😄
The stories are so relaxing, too bad I was jarred awake at the end by a loud ad proclaiming, "A HEART ATTACK ALMOST TOOK MY LIFE!!!" I won't be sleeping now.
Sounds annoying but also amusing choice of ad to be playing! If you listen to the stories on youtube it is best to make sure you have autoplay turned off so that when the video finishes it doesn't start another video which may have an ad at the beginning of it. Alternatively all my stories are available on my Dan Jones Hypnosis Sleep Stories app as mp3's where you have no ads or introductions etc.
@@DanJonesHypnosis Thanks! I know you have no choice over the ads, I wish UA-cam would turn down the volume on some of these. That one just about gave me a heart attack, it was so loud and unexpected! I had autoplay turned off, but I was playing a video that was next to last on a playlist, wasn't thinking about the commercial coming on when that one ended! I love your channel, you have helped me turn off the worries of the day so that I could sleep. Thank you!
@@DanJonesHypnosis thank you I found it I never scroll down because I don't want to ruin the story. And when I see writing I must read. I will sit and read the back of a cereal box matter fact every single side of the cereal box. I am a knowledge-seeker I can't help it. And because I know you have a description of the stories I don't scroll down because I will read it and ruin the story for myself. I love your stories to be a surprise!
I assume you fell asleep before getting into the therapeutic story in this sleep meditation? The story description is in the video description. It is a first person time travel story experience. For your convenience, here is the description: This sleep story for grownups is about walking in woodland and into a valley and finding old ruins of a forgotten Abbey. You explore the ruins of this Abbey and find a time portal to the past where you discover the Abbey has just been built. You explore the Abbey as it was, visit the Abbey library, learn something to investigate further. As part of your investigation you go scuba diving to find a chest on what used to be an island and make a spiritual and consciousness discovery.
A gift seriously. Come on dude its marketing nothing more than that. Some like myself would call it manipulation. That comment about it being a gift you making a new story if 1000 subscribers just turned me off your character.
Hi K K, if you knew me you would know it is something I am doing as a thank you for those who have subscribed, not a marketing thing. The same way that to give back to the community because I make a living from online training I created a free hypnosis eCourse (which I have also made free here on UA-cam). I could have charged for it like all my other courses, but I wanted to do something for free because I was in a position to do that as a thank you to those who have put me in a position to do that. I don't understand how being incredibly grateful for anyone who takes the time to subscribe and so wanting to give them something back that they would like in return for their kindness is a bad thing? I know many of my subscribers seem to be interested in my bedtime stories so it makes sense to say 'as a thank you, whenever I hit 1000 subscribers I make a new long story'. I didn't do it to 'get' subscribers, I did it to 'give' to subscribers as a thank you for being so kind and subscribing. But I don't do this anymore. I have been clear for years in videos on my channel and in comments that I absolutely hate making the bedtime stories, I frequently get so stressed and angry while making the stories. It is a horrible experience. I had cut right down on making the stories because of this, but people kept saying they still wanted stories, and new people would subscribe and then say they had subscribed because of the bedtime stories and are sad to hear that I won't be making more, so I spoke at length with subscribers about how I want to just focus on autism and mental health awareness, I am grateful to them for subscribing, but I don't want to be making stories, then in discussions I said I get about 1000 subscribers per month or so, for months I had only been making stories to please the subscribers who had subscribed for that reason as a thank you for subscribing, because I felt if they are believing in the stories that much that they decide to subscribe then I should give something back for their kindness even if I hate doing it, but I was doing this roughly fortnightly and found that too much so had stopped completely, so I said 'I am really grateful to you all for taking the time to subscribe, for liking the stories, so how about every time I reach 1000 subscribers I make a long sleep story as a thank you for those subscribing, it would mean I would probably post a sleep story once per month, and if my channel slows down I can post less frequently, if it speeds up I would post more frequently' Subscriber's thought this was a good idea. Unfortunately by about September last year I was getting about 1500 subscribers per month, so I announced that I couldn't keep posting every 1000 because that was too much and too stressful etc, so I will be stopping that. I said I would still post stories from time to time as a thank you for those who have subscribed to my channel because that is what those people would like but they would less frequent. In October I re-iterated this as not all my subscribers had seen the announcement, and then again in November and in December in live streams where I said I was thinking about totally stopping doing sleep stories so that I could just focus on autism awareness and mental health and that I would be doing that on a new channel (because this channel has become too focused on sleep stories and lost the focus it had since 2007 which was around autism, parenting and mental health, so I have started changing the branding here to focus on the sleep stories and will eventually stop posting and stop doing anything on this channel so that I can just share free content as I used to but I won't make the mistake of making sleep stories again as these used to be something I occasionally posted from a mental health perspective where they would help the listener sleep and reduce stress, anxiety and worry, but since I came back to UA-cam in 2015 following largely leaving UA-cam in 2011 where I deleted over 600 of my videos the main videos which have been popular have been my sleep stories. Between 2007-2011 the most popular videos were some self-hypnosis videos and my hypnotherapy training videos) and hopefully using this channel less So, I didn't decide to do this as a marketing thing, I did it because I genuinely respect and value my subscribers and so will do things I hate doing to try to show my gratitude to them, but I have emotional limits and so despite having best intentions of giving back for every 1000 subscribers, as monthly subscriber numbers have increased to about 1500-2000 subscribers per month, there is no way I can emotionally do a new story every couple of weeks and especially not guaranteeing that the story would be a long (about 50+ minutes) story, so I stopped. A month or so ago was my first new story since about September or October and I have done a couple of new stories since then and have a new story going live this morning (in about 2 minutes) but these are sporadic thank you stories just for those who have been so supportive of my channel and understanding of my feelings about making stories. I get frustrated with the cynicism which seems to happen when you only have good intentions and try to be kind. I had the same many years ago long before UA-cam when there was a US school shooting. One of the students from the school a couple of days later contacted me on MySpace asking if I could make them a self-hypnosis track to help with the trauma of the experience and said many fellow students would also likely benefit from something if I made it for them, so I made a self-hypnosis track, gave it to that student to use and shared it on MySpace saying if anyone has been affected then they can use it or share it if they think it will be helpful to others. In the recording I didn't mention my name, etc, so once shared unless you happened to randomly recognise my voice you wouldn't know the track was by me. It was a track just to be helpful yet I had lots of people attack me saying I was trying to use the shooting as a marketing ploy. This was from fellow therapists. My view back to them was why weren't they doing the same? Why weren't they offering what support they could freely offer like I was rather than attacking someone who was doing this? We are therapists and so if we see suffering and we know we can help a little for free by perhaps making a 30 minute shareable self-hypnosis mp3, that isn't a lot of effort on our part and yet it could really help people. Colleagues who know me as a person jumped to my defence, as did the student who initially asked for a track to be made, but I didn't feel the need to have to explain a whole story just to share the track, I just wanted to make and share the track and be done with it. Once shared there was no marketing, once someone has downloaded it and then emailed it to friends etc and they have emailed it to others, no-one would know it came from me. I prefer to do things anonymously and not be in the limelight and not take credit for things. It just frustrated me that people instantly seem to view things negatively rather than from a place of 'that person is kind and helpful'. This was one reason for leaving UA-cam in 2011. I had over 100 hours of free hypnotherapy training on my channel and was attacked by hypnotherapy trainers who said I needed to stop sharing training for free because why would anyone take their paid courses if I am giving it all away for free, I refused, so I started getting attacks on my channel from those hypnotherapy trainers and their students where my view was can't we all use this technology for good to help people learn for free? This still seems to be an issue on the internet, that anytime you give things away for free it is 'marketing'. Even off the internet. Until the middle of last year I was running free live hypnosis meetups costing me about £100 per day so that I could give back to those interested in learning hypnosis, I wasn't funnelling people into paid courses etc, it was exactly as stated, and people just said it will be to market and get people to sign up to something, and people generally seemed so cynical that I had very few attendees, so I stopped it and decided I don't plan on doing all these kind things again, but instead just keep myself to myself... All the best Dan

That was fun, although I would have believed it, because I believe in multiple dimensions (and such). I wouldn't have gone back a second time, and I definitely wouldn't have interacted with anyone. I would have been afraid that by my modern clothes they would accuse me of witchcraft and kill me 😄
Don't know why but I somehow got scared listening to this 😅
Good night fellow insomniacs lol
I didn’t like the huge eerie pauses before you told us what was in front of us in the dark room 😂 it was less calming and more nerve wracking
I’m back. 😘
Thank you!
Hi Dan it is your pestering person again. I went looking for your app and could not find it. Does it not exist anymore?
It still exists currently, the link is in the description of all recent videos and in my website etc.
Funny thing....my name is Abby😂
Hopefully you're not forgotten?
That's such a sweet answer!💗

Do you like to read? You seem like a reader.
Not a story!!!!
I assume you fell asleep before getting into the therapeutic story in this sleep meditation? The story description is in the video description. It is a first person time travel story experience. For your convenience, here is the description:
This sleep story for grownups is about walking in woodland and into a valley and finding old ruins of a forgotten Abbey.
I had cut right down on making the stories because of this, but people kept saying they still wanted stories, and new people would subscribe and then say they had subscribed because of the bedtime stories and are sad to hear that I won't be making more, so I spoke at length with subscribers about how I want to just focus on autism and mental health awareness, I am grateful to them for subscribing, but I don't want to be making stories, then in discussions I said I get about 1000 subscribers per month or so, for months I had only been making stories to please the subscribers who had subscribed for that reason as a thank you for subscribing, because I felt if they are believing in the stories that much that they decide to subscribe then I should give something back for their kindness even if I hate doing it, but I was doing this roughly fortnightly and found that too much so had stopped completely, so I said 'I am really grateful to you all for taking the time to subscribe, for liking the stories, so how about every time I reach 1000 subscribers I make a long sleep story as a thank you for those subscribing, it would mean I would probably post a sleep story once per month, and if my channel slows down I can post less frequently, if it speeds up I would post more frequently'
Subscriber's thought this was a good idea. Between 2007-2011 the most popular videos were some self-hypnosis videos and my hypnotherapy training videos) and hopefully using this channel less
So, I didn't decide to do this as a marketing thing, I did it because I genuinely respect and value my subscribers and so will do things I hate doing to try to show my gratitude to them, but I have emotional limits and so despite having best intentions of giving back for every 1000 subscribers, as monthly subscriber numbers have increased to about 1500-2000 subscribers per month, there is no way I can emotionally do a new story every couple of weeks and especially not guaranteeing that the story would be a long (about 50+ minutes) story, so I stopped.
All the best
Dan
Dear Dan, it's 5 years later. Do you still hate doing bedtime stories? I was so sorry to hear that you felt it was a horrible experience. Much love to you.
