Young kid from the streets of NC made some bad decisions as a kid in high school , made it out, balled out in the league , stayed true to his beliefs years before athletes started kneeling and denouncing systemic oppression that naked eye can’t see, naked eye such as the one of the narrator.
Not to excuse or explain his decision making process but yes, he drove fast, smoked weed, took care of his family and community, threw a bday party in the middle of the playoffs, yes he went from the nba to a small school coach, made money, probably lost it too, can’t take it to the grave anyway, but he’s doing well coaching doing what he loves, you live and you learn, this video is not as sad as the narrator wants you to believe, because he doesn’t understand, some things simply go over his head, simple as that, you can’t know what you don’t, but you can educate yourself and practice empathy then maybe you can have a sense of what these young men go through.
Who and what truly define success: society ? The narrator ?

This vid is a bit far reaching. Even with all of these perceived negative headlines, Howard still went on to average 14.5 ppg with Washington. Not great, but not necessarily a sign of the "end of his career." Also to mention is that his ppg and shooting percentage were up from the year before with Dallas. What ACTUALLY led to his downfall was an ACL injury where he was out for 8 months. He was never the same after this injury. He did not magically go from 20 ppg to 6 ppg in 1 year.

@@keysd31 American culture in 2008 is vastly different from American culture today. Had he been playing in the league now and been born a couple years later speaking against the flag, the whole birthday spectacle and admitting to smoking weed would not be any detriment to his career at all. Problem was he did all of that when weed was still illegal and the country was still high on patriotism. If anything the birthday spectacle would've been his first strike. Drawing attention to yourself while your team is in a critical position in a playoff series is NOT a good look in any era. Being a hooper your whole life is not a valid point, it's called an appeal to authority and it's a logical fallacy to believe an argument based on some hypothetical expertise. Maybe Howard wasnt to blame for playoff losses, but to say that a player scoring only 12 a game couldnt be the cause of a series loss is ignorant. A player could hypothetically score 30 a game and deserve blame if, for examples, they do one of the following: score 30 game a game while shooting under 20% from the field, make 20 turnovers a game, play zero defense while having no rebounds or assists. That's just 3 examples of how you could score 30 and be the reason your team loses. You were balling too long not to have common sense about the game.

2008 the Mavs weren't the favorites. They were the 7 seed and had fallen from 67 wins to 51 and avery johnson was fired there after. Also he still had a good year in 2009 and beat the spurs in the first round and after he was traded to the Wiz he was off to a good start b4 taring his ACL. So there's definitely revisionist history here
