Thank you so much for watching guys! Next up is Faith & PIety! If there's any subjects you'd like me to cover, feel free to suggest them below! :)
If you haven't picked up the game, you can grab it through my link here: www.nexus.gg/italianspartacus . This helps me out a TON as it gives a direct commission to the channel, and depending on what time you see this, a discount to you as well.
you can only make 3 changes to the contract each time. So unfortunately you cant do that @ 14:30
Question 1: Do you know why in defensive wars when I occupy enemy castle I dont get the whole earldom? Instead I get partial occupation, hence partial War Score. It makes winning defensive wars extremely hard.
Question 2: I dont get anything from helping allies win wars, be it defensive or attacking wars. I check my war score after every battle, and I see I get hundreds of war score, I also occupy holdings, but when the war ends, it shows I have 0 war score. W.T.F. Any ideas???? o_0
Palatinate special contract is very good with small vassals, especially if they like you. And its very good if you are the vassal, then you get a nice Intrigue bonuss.
I think that something like title revocation rights should give more than +5 opinion.
Sure, palatinate is bad if you're a liege giving it to your vassal, but I imagine it's nice if you're the vassal and you have it from your liege. Remember, you don't absolutely have to always be an independent ruler.
My dumbass thought you said Palpatine
Yeah honestly playing as a vassal is a lot more chill. AND if you give yourself council rights you can actually get some really broken bonuses if your liege is a king or a emperor. My liege changes like every 10 years and im just this crazy powerful vassal with a stupid good contract and im just like, let me explain how things work here im your chancelor everyone loves me, I WILL depose you for your shitty brother I have more levies and money than you and YOUR WELCOME. Now keep me out of your wars 🤣
Or, you can give a vassal the Palatinate, then grant that vassal to another higher tier vassal of yours, ensuring your hier tier vassal doesn't get too much power
Also remember to give them Title Revocation protection cause I noticed the AI likes to do that if they got Palatinate
@@nealwoods3482 yeah, I thought it would suck but then I played Matilda of Tuscany. Being a vassal you can just take most of the empire for yourself and the emperor won't try to stop you. It's such a great way to expand through land that would be a pain to take as anyone else. Almost makes me not want to declare independence until the empire is basically mine to take. Why make it harder to expand after
Congratulations on 100k subs! Don't know how long you've been up there, but I was getting back into ck3 and thought I'd hit up your channel for stuff. Great job as always. I'll take a look at your bannerlord stuff when I get back to that too
Sparty's soothing voice? ✓
Intro of "CK3-trailer kid" getting beat up? ✓
It's another one of Sparty's great CK3 guides!
Also, brain insists on seeing (Emperor) "Palpatine" instead of "Palatinate"
I swear he sounds exactly like Chris stuckman who does movie reviews. Im not convinced its not a second channel
i cannot confirm or deny that i am chris stuckman, binging with babish, or the guy from khan academy
Love it Sparty! Would love to see an in depth guide for religion.
This is hands down one of the best strategy games I ever played. First crusader kings and omg am I loving it still have alot to learn but I'm learning fast and stopped worrying about confexrate partition cause I come to realize you cant keep all your land just have to minimize lose and craziness in kingdom until you can change the laws. Stop caring about what happens and am just roleplaying it and I'm enjoying it alot more. But I keep starting over cause I dont know who to play I need to stop doing that. But I def enjoy playing as a count or duke first before king. Starting as a king feels like cheating almost lol no not really but you get what I'm saying
ItalianSpartacus has some videos on the best starts, you can check them out ;)
Yeah, this was a lot easier to learn than Hearts of Iron for me, and I'm loving every second of it
One tip that has helped me with partition succession, make your male adult heirs that you want to get rid of into knights by forcing them in the martial - > knights screen. Then go to war with someone, raise armies, then reorganise and stick all the knights you want to kill off into a small army on their own with like 50 soldiers and then charge them into a losing battle and watch them get slain. If they escape the fight you can simply stick a rally point down, raise local armies and they will pop back up so you can send them off to die again. They may get captured instead so watch out for that, they may get released with a hook from their captor so could be a minor risk from that. I've killed off a bunch of second and third sons this way.
@@TheGeneralDisarray thats a good plan. Seems like AI uses it as well, but instead a lot of good heirs die, especially my grand grand heirs.
You were right the first time pronouncing scutage (scoo-tage). It comes from the Latin scutum for shield so was essentially a 'shield tax'. In the early years after the Norman Conquest of England feudal contracts specified provision of military service if you were a knight or provision of x number of knights if you were a major landowner, as there was a need to raise troops quickly and efficiently in order to subjugate the Anglo-Saxon population and protect the borders against Scots and Welsh. However, as their rule became more established it suited kings to replace this requirement with a regular monetary payment instead. It meant that the king got a cash income which he could spend on whatever he wanted and it was more simple for a vassal who did not have to provide trained men, horses, armour etc. It was particularly abused by King John who tried to exploit it as much as he could. In the long run though it ended up benefiting the vassals as, except for John's attempts to abuse the system, the payments generally remained relatively fixed which meant that with inflation and increasing costs of warfare the scutage payments became increasingly insignificant as the Middle Ages went on.
Aah, another great guide !
thank you for watching my brother!
Nice video, but i think you missed a big point of the whole contract system. It becomes really interesting and shines, when you are a vassal of someone. As example, when i play as Armenia under the Muslims or the Byzantine, i negotiate higher leavies in exchange of religion rights and when i play as Tuscany, i negotiate with the Emperor of the HRE Scotage rights, and man, that contract is sooo powerfull for you
I'll be honest, I've not been a vassal enoug hto really know how that works! so I'm sorry for leaving that gap in the knowledge :(
Don t forget you can use this at your advantage if you are a vassal yourself, don t pay a dime to the emperor and get nice bonus from him with all the hook you have gotten from him.
When I'm playing as a vassal, I pretty much always go for forced partition. Since partition is going to happen anyway, I can just get a free reduction in contributions or some other cool right
They are not serfs but interns according to feudal contracts
its not slavery
its just a probationary period
... like ... forever
guide about like marriage an discussing good traits for your heir and also your council members and knights? i always run into losing all my good counselors an such after a while and finding it hard to replace them. also maybe in a separate vid or in the same one discussing education an such for children like how to raise them to become good rulers an such .
I could be very into that!
I think the info on 3:00 is not correct. 50% penalty is if you don't hold any dejure title associated with the vassal. 25% is if you hold a dejure title that the vassal falls under, but not directly.
For example. Prince Pandolf's penalty is 50% because you hold neither the K_Epirus (direct dejure liege) nor the E_Byzantium (dejure liege of K_Epirus). So you're not his dejure liege in any sense. William of Foggia 's penalty is 25% because you don't hold whatever duchy that Foggia falls under, but Foggia still falls under K_Sicily. It's got nothing to do with if Prince Pandolf is a duke or a count.
"Ideal" organization is therefore one where all counts fall under their dejure duke, and all dukes fall under their dejure king. As a king you'll probably hold a duchy or two, in which case you can have direct count vassals through your ducal title.
Emperor exemption means that a duke gives an emperor full 100% as if the duke was a king under the emperor. Even though technically there's a direct dejure king title in between.
Yup! You're totally correct. That's what I should have explained! I realize now I used prince pandolf as my example forgetting that he's outside of my location. You explained it properly in accordance with the titles that are missing hahaha sorry about that man. Definitely forgot to outline thay
How do you manage the council rights grant in the long term? The guy could be a really good councilor, but his heir could be worthless. Is the idea with this that you'd use it to raise something else now and then get a hook down the road to get rid of it before that becomes a problem? Or do I misunderstand how these things work upon succession?
And can you use it to shield yourself from that hook being used against you? Like if I grant all of my councilors that right, what happens if some other vassal tries to use that interaction?
I wish you made one that was shorter and much easier to understand
I was just wondering if the palatinate special contract with a vassal that is your spymaster, would then buff him to bring you better results. Not quite sure though if vassals even can be spymasters.
I can also see it become handy to protect your heir from becoming murdered and to prepare him in general.
yeah that's where i can see it being the most useful is during a succession!
the palatinate contract is inherited so you run the real risk of having future bad spymasters (if you went with this kind of strat). You'd have to closely monitor their succession and education of their heirs
Can you do a guide on family eg; Basterds
Hmm, another comment remarked the palatine contract is just nice for vassals. But you could be that vassal!
Say you as duke manage to seize the title of the byzantine empire through intrigue, but no one likes you and all are more powerful.
You could set up a very favorable kingship with the perfect contract. What is the easiest way to switch, can you get that kingship and just abdicate the throne?
If not possible you could appoint your heir as king with that contract, then grant the empire to come else. You might just abdicate or play as emperor until you get murdered or die of old age.
It might be a messy succession if you have lots of kids. How do you make sure your heir has the whole kingdom, with most of it in direct control? Any complications with de jure rights?
Also, I'd like to set up as many dynasty members as possible as independent kings and dukes to get renown. I want two levels in the legacies glory, kin, blood and warfare asap. 😄
p.s. the trick to get the empire is to matrilineally marry a second heir, kill the heir and have an emperor grandkid. but this inherits so many problems as well. So two steps up one step down seems perfect!
how can i allow vassals to expand to other territory but stop them from vassal wars?
Given that "march" refers to "border territory", feels like (one) requirement for march should be "vassal has border with independent liege". Or perhaps border territory was more broad concept in middle ages.
Does that march contract even change vassals tittle into marquess/marquis/margrave? I've not tried. lol
Question, why would I want to restrict the succession laws of my Vassals? Is High Partition not more predictable?
This was a very informative video, great work!
Forced Partition actually doesn’t prevent the vassal from using High Partition, since it’s still a type of partition. It does stop them from using primogeniture, ultimogeniture, and house seniority. You use it when a vassal has been gobbling up other vassals and now makes up a big chunk of your empire, so that next generation they’ll lose most of their holdings and won’t be as much of a threat.
I know it's an old comment, but I will still answer it, so if anybody has the same question, they can see this in present time. Forced partition is used to ensure your vassals don't become too powerful and their hiers keep fighting among themselves. It is good for if you have a big empire and your vassals are kindom-tier. It will ensure that they don't have massive armies and keep them weak enough for them to not completely destroy you in civil wars.
Is there anyway to go from Clan to Feudal? I know you can go from Tribal to Feudal, but what about Clan?
I never bothered to learn the contract thingy
Now, as a vassal I am happy with giving my liege 0,3 gold while I make 30 monthly hahah
March contract is amazing
Is there a video explaining this petition things?
It allways states that you can only make 3 changes at once.
How much time has to pass until you can change contracts again or do you have to die to be able to change the contract with the next generation?
i believe it's 10 years before you can manipulate a feudal contract once again!
So I can’t get 50.625% tax if I have absolute crown authority and scutage?
Love your videos man you and another small time youtuber have help me so much. Would love to play multiplayer with you guys one day so I could learn and see what you guys do. Would that be ok I'm 36 years old so not a kid. Let me know man be fun. Or if there anyone in here who wants to hope on discord and run a kingdom together let me know really want to try. But all the games online are locked
just hop on to the discord, i'm sure we can at least chat! :) my schedule is really hectic so i try to get some time away from the computer during my free time :D
Why do some of my vassals not have feudal contracts? I dunno if it's because they're a different culture or what. But I'm the HRE and I took a sliver of northern Africa. And I can't modify that guy's feudal contract. I even used Daddy Pika's cheat menu and opened the contract and it just doesn't exist.
I like lowering the levies _(cause I just use MAAs)_ then forcing confederate partition on my Dynasty's house members that are Kings and Queens in my Empire.
This way, they don't choose Scandinavian elective and make some dude King of 4 Kingdoms, resulting in an independence war lol.
Can you choose to adopt feudal ways instead of clan ways?
I believe it's relegated to your culture?
Here before he fixes the title
Done ;)
@@italianspartacusIt still says "cursader".
Double done
my king, i need you to review, then place the royal seal on this contract. but first, please, your brother has sent you this small chest of gold coins, run your fingers over them! oh and your wife has sent this luxurious area rug
....
oh god
it's latin, correct pronunciation is de iure
i love you man but does it really take 24 mins to explain feudal contracts ;-;
For snyone coming to this video in 2023, you cannot modify a vassal contract with than 3 adjustments. I.e. you cant grant council rights and sanctioned war in exchange for increased levies AND taxes. Thats 4 adjustments.
