  • What a fantastic day! We explore the beautiful, exciting streets of Hanoi. We eat at one of our favourite phở restaurants, explore the street food and coffee scene and then join in the celebrations that the Vietnamese do so well on one of their many public holidays.
Phở, Vietnamese Noodle Soup, is a culinary delight that can not be missed! It is like medicine! This delicious noodle soup has become synonymous with Vietnamese cuisine for a reason!
Originating in Hanoi, Vietnam in the early 20th century, Phở has gained international recognition as one of Vietnam's most celebrated and beloved dishes. A harmonious blend of flavors, this soup encapsulates the essence of Vietnamese cooking - simple yet sophisticated.
At the heart of Phở lies its clean, fragrant broth, prepared by simmering beef bones, oxtail, and fragrant spices for hours. This slow-cooked process extracts the essence of the ingredients, resulting in a rich and flavorful broth.
The star of the show, the rice noodles, are an integral part of Phở. These silky, slurp-worthy noodles harmonize perfectly with the broth, creating a satisfying and comforting medley of textures. Thinly sliced, rare or cooked beef or chicken, cooked to perfection, is then added to the bowl, further elevating the dish's savory profile.
Phở is a highly customizable dish, allowing everyone to tailor it to their own personal taste. The garnishes, typically served alongside the bowl, include fresh herbs, pickled garlic, lime juice and a kick of spice from chili or chili sauce.
Traditionally a breakfast dish, Phở can now be enjoyed at any time of the day, with dedicated Phở restaurants - locally known as Phở Ếch - scattered throughout Hanoi. These traditional establishments proudly serve the dish steaming hot, allowing patrons to savor its delightful warmth, aroma, and a taste that reflects the vibrant Vietnamese culture.

"People struggle for us to have a cheap holiday." a heartfelt statement from you will make us love you. You two are spiritual travelers who feel with the locals and are appreciative of whatever is offered by your visited areas. In Kulua Lampur we stayed in a pretty poor area, arranged by the tour, where we could see how the Indian Malaysians lived. To me, it was a good experience in this slice of life where people have to struggle daily. Did I feel anything visiting the affluent Upper East Side of New York City? Nothing at all, except feeling inspired by how these New Yorkers could amass a fortune for a dolce vita! Ironic, isn't it?

Hi Jack! Hahaha! Yes Tim is a funny guy 😁 Our Son and his partner live in a house on the property and looks after the chickens when we travel so don't worry. He loves chickens too 🥰🐔We lived Newtown in Sydney for years before we moved to Cairns. Always went to Cabramatta for Vietnamese. Marrickville and Ashfield for a Bánh Mì. Miss that good food. I try to make all sorts of Vietnamese food but it's never as good lol. Thanks for saying hi😁👍

Really enjoyed that video and got me hungry for Pho. Have not been Hanoi since 2004 and we are keen to go back. I did see a turtle in the lake and even got a video of it. It looked very sick. That night at a restaurant my camera did the rounds of the whole restaurant, everyone keen to see the turtle! I must try and find it, on an old SD card somewhere!

The last turtle of Hoan Kiem lake was dead in Jan 2016. It was thought to have been between 80 and 100 years old when it died . The reptile is believed to be the last in a long line of large turtles in the city’s central Hoàn Kiếm, revered as symbols of Vietnam’s independence struggle according to mythical lore passed down for generations. The 170kg (375lb) creature is on display in Ngoc Son Temple located on Jade Islet, a high hillock in the northeast of Hoan Kiem Lake.

You could also buy instant Pho. The brand name is "Pho Story". It's is being sold in most of the supermarkets or grocery stores in Vietnam. The taste is pretty close to fresh Pho.

I think the easiest way to pronounce pho is to Add the question mark as if you are asking a question.
    Fuh?

I've watched a few of your videos now... A minor note: Is there anything you've come across that isn't 'fantastic'? Don't be afraid to show some of the bad stuff. It will raise your credibility and help people miss some of the pitfalls. For example, Vietnam has a funny visa process. If traveling from Phnom Penh to Vietnam get the visa from any travel agency before you go.They will get it from the embassy no problems.
Oh, you mentioned lots of holidays in VietNam. In Cambodia, go to pp during the holidays. As the usual tourist destinations outside of PP: Hotels are harder to get and can double their rates. In Vietnam I'm sure that's a thing, as hotels charge more for weekends than during the week (Vung Tau).
